Photos and Description of the Warren vacation farmhouse rental
3BR / 3BA / Sleeps 12+

Traditional Vermont farmhouse was completely renovated by architect-owner in 2007 to preserve the historic facade while creating a modern interior filled with light from floor-to-ceiling windows and ample open space. The house is can be divided into a main living space with living room, open kitchen, dining and family rooms, two second floor bedrooms with full bathroom + extra toilet and sinks, and a studio with first floor living room, kitchenette and full bathroom with jetted tub and a second floor bedroom. The house is situated directly on Kid Brook, a fast moving stream feeding the Mad River. Children under 14 are permitted to fish the brook; all ages can go wading. Located in the historic village of Warren, VT. A short (.33 mile) walk leads to the village center with its general store, antique and craft shops, spa and the top rated (Relais and Chateaux) Pitcher Inn which offers fine dining or casual bar fare. We are located one mile from the access road to Sugarbush Ski Resort.

Green Building Information: This house was designed to be highly energy efficient. The walls, ceiling and floors are super-insulated making it very cozy in winter; primary heating can be achieved by use of the 2 wood stoves with propane gas heating as a supplemental system. Multiple sliding glass doors and windows allow for pleasant air cooling in summer. Toilets are low water consumption. Local materials (Vermont slate floors and counters, barn-board wood) were used throughout.

Ski Information: There are 2 Downhill Ski resorts within 5 miles: Sugarbush/ Mt. Ellen access road is 1 mile up Route 100; Mad River Glen is 5 miles up Route 100. There are 2 Cross-country Ski parks at the top of Brook Road (less than 1 mile up Brook Road): Ole's and Blueberry Lake.

Nice house, Renter Beware

Nice house, fun location. Had a great time but owners are just what you'd expect from a listing that has no reviews. I should have known. Long short- we are long time VRBO renters (and landlords ourselves) and never been charged for damage. Owner needed $1K cash up front which, in addition to no reviews, should have been fair warning. Instructions call for stripping beds and removing garbage. We did that plus two hours of four people scrubbing toilets, mopping, vacuuming and were still charged for "extra" cleaning time required to address our "mess." In addition charged for a stain on a mattress cover that we are confident we had nothing to do with. In the end I'm just thrilled to be rid of dealing with them (a thrill that I'm sure is mutual).
Owner's Response: Jeff asked about reviews before he rented. I get lots of personal emails and notes left on the table saying thank you and telling us that they want to come back. I had sent 3-4 of those to Jeff when he asked. One of the people in his group in fact left a very nice note on the table saying thank you, great time etc., and apologizing about something being broken - and they were replacing it. No problem and the effort to replace something was very much appreciated.
We do not charge a cleaning fee unless it takes more than 3 hours - that is explained up front. Our cleaning person was there for 5 hours. Lots of linens leaves our cleaning person watching a machine go round and round - we are not a hotel. I have never charged anyone for cleaning before. The mattress cover stain was reported to us by the same cleaning person who has been doing our house for 5 years so she knows the place. Jeff's group did have some big dogs - maybe that was the source, maybe not. We subtracted $100 for 2 hours of cleaning and the mattress cover. We returned the balance $900 within the week I believe. I thought the guests were very nice so I am sorry that Jeff was so upset.
