Photos and Description of the Taos vacation house rental
3 bedroom home on 3+ acres, 2 full bathrooms, sleeps up to 11

Stay in this Pueblo style 3 bedroom Adobe home and enjoy panoramic views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and surrounding vistas. Casa Truchas is located between Taos and the Taos Ski Valley, and is only a 5 minute drive to the quaint village of Arroyo Seco. Stay in this Taos vacation rental of exceptional comfort and quality for a truly relaxing holiday. The Casa is at an elevation of 8,000ft, and is perched above the high desert town of Taos. Enjoy the wonderful views of the Truchas Peaks, the Jemez Mountains, and the sweep of the entire Taos valley. The Casa is cradled in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains to the East and North, so the private deck looks up to rocky El Salto Peak and a spur of the Enchanted Mountain, Pueblo Peak. Don't forget to take in the amazing, dramatic sunsets and 60 mile views encompassing the twinkling lights of Los Alamos.

Location & Activities: Since the ½ mile private gravel road on which we are located, can be snowy in winter (we hope it will be anyway!), 4 wheel drive vehicles are preferred during ski season, although front wheel drive is usually just fine. In Summer any vehicle is just fine. Activities: Downhill and cross-country skiing, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, golf. Gallery browsing, shopping, museums, arts & crafts festivals, Native American Dances & ceremonials. Art workshops, Music Festivals, Wine Tastings and best of all: just relaxing! Area: Casa Truchas is located in a very quiet neighborhood as there are only a few neighbors. All the houses around are on 3+ acres and the land is covered in pinon and juniper trees. We are on the slope of the mountains as they rise up, which is why you look out over the trees to the views.

The views are of the Jemez Mountains about 60 miles away (highlighted by the sparkling lights of Los Alamos), of the Truchas Peaks about 45 miles away and of the sweep of the Taos Valley (including the Town of Taos) and the Rio Grande Gorge where the Rio Grande River cuts through this broad expanse. Casa Truchas is at an elevation of 8,000 feet and the town of Taos (about 10 miles away) is at 6,500 feet. As a comparison, the base of Taos Ski Valley is at 9,200 feet, about 10 miles away in the other direction. Because of the slope of the land you drive into the Casa down the main driveway. From there you have your choice of parking in any of the automatic garages.

The Casa can comfortably sleep 7-11 guests; two bedrooms with king and queen size beds, one bedroom with full size bunkbeds and trundle bed, queen size sofa bed in the living room and full size sofa bed in the den. The Casa is equipped with washer & dryer, TV/DVD, telephone with answering machine, and gas BBQ grill on the deck. A selection of chilled beverages and hot drink mixes are available to welcome you to Casa Truchas. All linens, towels, kitchen utensils and crockery are available in abundance. However, please try and call at the local supermarket in Taos for supplies before your arrival as there is no supermarket in Arroyo Seco.

We had a terrific time at Casa Truchas! We had 8 people in our party (3 families) and we were very comfortable. The pictures on the website do not even do the views justice. We ate out on the patio every night and used the grill and also used the fire pit to roast marshmellows. Arroyo Seco was charming and was the perfect distance from Taos. We loved the seclusion of the Casa. There is great bird watching and beautiful walks and hikes near the house. We LOVED it and will definitely go back. I highly recommend this house.

Casa Truchas is just beautiful. The views are wonderful and I was happy just sitting with my coffee on the patio looking out at the valley and mountains. The property is gorgeous and well kept up. The casa has everything one needs and our family had a stupendous time. Hopefully we can come back to this beautiful home again.

Views were the best! Peaceful and relaxing atmosphere and great place to sit back and relax or plan short sightseeing trips or watching the hummingbirds feed. Loved eating at Michaels, and Grahams served a great breakfast. Shopping was also good. Steve was so pleasant and helpful and mindful of any needs we might have. Thanks Steve! We hated to leave ths place. A trip down to Arroyo Seco for ice cream was almost a daily event. Wife loved the kitchen where we prepared some great meals. Appreciated the chance to stay at Casa Truchas and look forward to coming back.

Our family had a wonderful time staying at Casa Truchas during the Thanksgiving holiday. Family members came from Park City, Denver, Chicago, and Saskatoon. The Casa and Casita were very comfortable, the patio and yard were very nice, and all was located in a beautiful setting. The location is great: close enough to town, but secluded. We were able to walk down to Arroyo Seco for meals and hike into the woods from the house. This location was chosen as a continuation of a family Thanksgiving tradition of staying at Taos, and we now plan to continue the tradition at Casa Truchas. Steve, you have a beautiful property and are a wonderful host. Thank you for everything you did to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. We look forward to seeing you again.
Owner's Response: Thanks Paula for your very kind words, you have a wonderful family and it was a pleasure meeting you all. We hope to see you next year. P.S. Its snowing hard here now.....!!!

A very nice house, comfortable and well equipped. The views are incredible in all directions and the location secluded. Don't settle for a rental in the flats, get this one at the base of the mountains for an elevated view. Perfect for easy access to all the enchanted circle sights.

30+ Year Anniversary Trip

This was the best vacation we've had in many years! Casa Truchas helped make it the most romantic & relaxing trip we could hope for! Steve made sure that our stay was perfect! The house was first class. The view is spectacular no matter what time of the day, sunrise, sunset, and at night. The house is secluded and private! You are close to all the activities of Taos but at 8,000 feet above sea level you are close to nature and the beauty of the enchanted mountains. If you are looking for a vacation full of outdoor activities or a place where you can relax in a peaceful setting, where you can forget about the stress of your everyday life, then Casa Truchas is the place for you!!!
