Best location and clean

moncsi San Jose CA USA
Review Submitted: September 11, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
The location of this condo is perfect if you arrive with family and car. Free parking, few minutes drive to the heart of Montreal as well to the airport. Very clean place, the owners are friendly, and provided great tips for parking and things to do. Great with small children, as well with grandparents. Walking distance to the rapids and large food stores.
Very friend and safe location in the big city. If we go back, I would consider renting the same place if available with my teen girls.

Basement Apartment

NJ Travellers NJ, USA
Review Submitted: October 13, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
First, the good: the host, who lives upstairs, is very nice, friendly, and helpful. The apartment was extremely clean and well stocked. Having the computer in the living room and access to 2 excellent bikes with locks sold us on the place.

The bad: from the photo you would think it was one of the two apartments shown in the photo. It is not. It is the basement apartment which you access to the right of the garage, under the stairs in the photo. Since the basement apartment is originally part of the apartment upstairs, there is no soundproofing and so it feels like what it is - you are staying in the basement and can hear the sounds of family life above - it does not feel private. After we stayed I read all the wonderful reviews on the website - I guess privacy and quietness do not matter to the people travelling with children, but it was a distraction for my husband and I. Although there are windows looking out at the sidewalk, I would not choose to stay in a basement apartment.
Owner's Response: I appreciate your honest opinion and am sincerely sorry you did not enjoy your stay.

Being a serious establishment recognized, accredited and inspected by Tourism Quebec, you must know that the apartment is and has always been a self-contained unit of its own, with its own unique mailing address and entrance.

As most buildings in Montreal made with wood and bricks, a small amount of sound is heard between apartments which is unavoidable, however substantially less than any condo/apartment building or hotel with many neighbors instead of just one.

The entrance door to the apartment is in fact to the right of the driveway at ground level (pictures available on our website). It has 3 large sized windows on the right side of the property allowing for much light to enter and no steps making it easier for people with limited mobility.

It’s easy accessibility makes it ideal for the serious cyclists who absolutely wishe to keep their personal bike in the entrance of the apartment (instead of the interior garage which is at their disposal), as well as for a family, someone with a wheelchair, a child’s stroller, or a senior’s walker. Some simply prefer it because they can unload their luggage and groceries from their car in the driveway directly into the apartment without climbing up a flight of stairs.

We hope you’ve enjoyed our personalized combination locks to both the entrance door and bicycle locks, the maps and tourism documentation with discount booklet, you personal phone line, the computer with high speed internet, the courtesy movies pop-corn and bicycles.

Should one day our upstairs apartment become available for short-term rental, perhaps it might be more suitable for your needs.

It was a pleasure to meet both you and your husband and wish you all the best

Sincerely,

Cynthia

Home Away From Home

Heather & Wayne Calgary, Alberta
Review Submitted: July 19, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We are former Montrealers with two young children, and we return to Montreal most summers to visit family and friends. We have previously stayed with family/friends, as well as a couple of hotels/motels, but Cynthia's place has proven to be the most convenient, comfortable, as well as economical. Cynthia's place was like a home away from home for us--the apartment was super clean, and contained all the essentials and more. Having our own kitchen and laundry facilities was ideal. Considering we were driving all over Montreal (on and off the island), we found this to be a central location. We also made good use of various amenities nearby (bus stop, bicycle/walking path by the lakeshore, parks, shopping, restaurants). Cynthia and her family were very accomodating and helpful. She even kept an eye on our son while we packed up to go. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to others! Thank you, Cynthia & family!
Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to put your comments on our HomeAway site.

Whether it means putting a few Disney movies & Games in the apartment, taking out a few Hockey sticks & net for the kids to play, or simply giving directions to visit things of interest,… it’s always a pleasure to contribute to making our guests stay one they will remember.

It truly was a pleasure to meet you and your kids and hope to see you again next year.

Sincerely,

Cynthia

Everything you need at your fingertips. Extremely clean, very well equipped. Very simple and easy for thansportation without a car. Close to do downtown and underground network. The best part is relaxing with the sound of nature and the view of the rapids. If you love bicycling and nature, it's the best! I will definately be coming back.

wonderful hostess

This was my second stay and I must say that Cynthia is a wonderful hostess. You could not ask for a more accomodating innkeeper. Very welcoming. The apartment is in immaculate condition and Cynthia is extremely helpful. She even offered me a a ride when I was running late for my appointment, not to mention pick up at the airport. Cynthia also provided me with the full use of a bicycle for my transportation while I was a guest.
It is cost effective to take a short walk to the IGA or Metro plus and pick up groceries to cook at the apartment. The bus stop is coveniently located one block away.I would most definitely reccomend this for anyone looking for a home away from home. I will be returning in the future.

Excellent Experience

Very nice and clean spot in a very quiet neighborhood. The best thing is that you can go to Montreal downtown driving your own car or by Metro in less than 30min. We got all information on the nearby attractions as soon as we got the key to the apartment. Walking to the park and watching the migrating birds and enjoying the beautiful scenery was a very good experience for all of us.

Patricia - September 2008.

In mid September of this year, I was searching for a ‘’home away from away’’ for the imminent visit of an Uncle. I was lucky enough to find the Pole des Rapides and booked a one-week stay.

It was a great experience. The apartment is very well furnished – comfortable, clean, well laid-out and with all the appliances a person requires. It is beautifully situated close to a major park and bicycle path. But the real joy is the owner – Cynthia. From the time of our arrival, where she greeted us with a frosty lemonade, to the wonderful fruit plate and breakfast food she left us, we understood she genuinely wanted our stay to be memorable. She was always ready with information about the local sights and to answer all our questions. She is a delight to be with.

I highly recommend the Pole des Rapides – whether for a family or a single traveler.
ENJOY !

wonderful

Cynthia was a charming and generous hostess. She gave us considerable information on what to see and do with our young boys in Montreal, and our "breakfast" was more like a feast - fresh fruit, patisseries, OJ, milk, tea, coffee - all artfully arranged and fresh and delicious! The apartment was well-stocked and as the grocery store was close by, we were easily able to prepare and eat our own dinner in the apartment. The beds were very comfortable and the entire place was immaculate. While we drove just about everywhere, the Montreal subway / metro was close and the walks along the water were lovely. Highly recommended!

A true gem...

Review Submitted: August 19, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
My husband and I decided on a whim, to go to Montreal for 5 days. I found this place on the internet. We could not have found a better location for the price we paid. It was an easy six hour drive from New Jersey. The owner (Cynthia)was very nice;extremely helpful, accomodating, resourceful! She provided more than enough food for breakfast and some bonus snacks, and the place was very clean (and I'm very picky), convenient to everything; restaurants, grocery store, the Metro, bus stop, and the best part was the gorgeous park by the river with the rapids which was only about 5-10 minute walk. The computer was a blessing. We would just google up the "must see and do in Montreal". We would absolutely stay here again and definitely recommend it to friends and families.
