Wonderful place- wonderful people!!

Review Submitted: November 12, 2008 Date of Stay: November 2008
My family and I have stayed in this lovely cabin twice now- once with just our family (4 people) – we loved it so much and had such a great time that we brought back our extended family (10 people)!!

The cabin is top of the line all the way- great furnishings, everything you could need in the kitchen to cook with (and then some), great bedding, awesome deck, flat screen TVs, nothing has been spared here!

We have stayed at lots of cabins and this is by far the nicest one we have ever stayed in! Although it is top of the line, it is also very comfortable and feels “like home”- a very easy place to relax!!

I would also note that we have two small children (ages 1 & 5) and the cabin is very child friendly as they mention on the web site- the built-in beds upstairs were by far the favorite!!

I obviously love this cabin and would recommend it to anyone- the owners are very nice and accommodating and the care takers are also very helpful! Just a nice cabin, built in a nice place by nice people!! I am already planning my trip back next year!!
Owner's Response: We are always glad to have you stay at our home. And, it seems each time you visit we have added things. The next step will be surfacing the steep drive.

Thank you as always.

Backwoods CRIBS!

Knopfler Washington, DC
Review Submitted: June 23, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
My merry group of friends from high school, college and beyond would like to thank HomeAway and the Gehl's for a most outstanding time. We were looking for a place "off the grid," away from the hustle and bustle of our lives in the Washington DC, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Columbia, and Fayetteville areas. We found it! Turn right at the cidery, down the dirt road, up a gravel driveway, and into "backwoods cribs!" This place had all the amenities, a kitchen bigger than our main floor of our house, and well-appointed - well, everything. We had an awesome time and recommend the property and experience highly for anyone looking to get themselves away from it all for a spell.

Note: While we did get the cars up that weren't 4WD (including a 1993 Civic!), I wouldn't recommend it. If you're renting a car, make sure it's got four wheel drive as the driveway is a bit challenging.

Meadows of Dan rental

Absolutely lovely home in very private setting. There are several "day trips" to towns such as Floyd, Fancy Gap, Mt. Airy, etc. and then lovely evenings back home on the deck or in the hot tub watching the moon and the stars. This is an excellent place to enjoy some peace and serenity and have all your creature comforts too! The scenery especially along Dugspur Road North towards Floyd is stunning.

We stayed there last october and loved it. it was so comfortable, clean, modern, and beautiful. we are planning our next stay with extended family from England in April.
Even though the cabin is 6 hours drive for us, we dont mind the drive because it was such a wonderful place.
I have been recommending this cabin to all my friends.
I hope when we will be there in April the Hot tub would be fixed.

Gorgeous and Peaceful

Furiousarah Winter Park, Florida, USA
Review Submitted: January 6, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2008
This getaway was the best ever for our family. In fact, we cried when we were leaving!
The cabin is absolutely beautiful...full of all the amenities you could possibly need. From the decorations to the paper towels, everything was perfect. I highly recommend this property for those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the every day! Go for a walk, fish in the trout stream, watch the beautiful sunrise and sunset...enjoy!
Two warnings: 1. those with cars that cannot make it up a rain-slick or very steeply graded mountain driveway are going to have a hard time. Luckily, I drive a truck with 4X4 so we had no problem making it up. The rest of my family, however, had to park and their things carted up the steep drive in my vehicle the first night. After the rains stopped, we were able to get their cars up the next day. 2. for those who are weary of a half-hour drive to the market for a forgotten item...plan, plan, plan ahead!! Make your lists and check them twice!
Minor inconveniences aside...the vacation home is absolutely perfect in every way!
