Northeast Georgia Trip to the Mountains

Nice, clean, newer cabin with all the amenities. Floor to ceiling stone fireplace was greatly appreciated and cozy for the cool fall evenings. Two master suites was very nice as well. Color change of the leaves was so pretty with the cabin nestled in the mountain. Never visited the area before and there is so much to do in and around Hiawassee. Great choice of restaurants in Hiawassee, Michalee's being one of our favorites for delicious food and the Brasstown Valley Resort was a fun evening out. Hiawassee has a movie/theater complex as well, which we didn't go to, but it was there. We loved Crane Creek Winery in Young Harris, GA and Wolf Mountain Vineyards in Dahlonega, GA. Both locations are beautiful, with Wolf Mountain being the prettiest we've been to. Fantastic Sunday lunch buffet there as well, overlooking the rolling vineyards and mountains from the outdoor terrace dining (or you can eat inside). All the lake fingers in Hiawassee (Lake Chatuge) are so beautiful. We drove around the entire lake. Water sports and boating are big in that area. We visited the following during our stay: Tallulah Gorge State Park (hiked around a bit) - deepest gorge east of the Mississippi river with white waters for very experienced kayakers; the alpine town named Helen, the town of Dillard (ate at the Dillard House); drove up to Highlands, NC (great for upscale one street shopping on both sides of street, like Winter Park, FL). Also Dry Falls was a beautiful waterfall close to the town of Highlands. Easy walk/stairs to the falls where you can walk under the large water fall and still stay dry. Visited the lovely town of Dahlonega (major gold mining was done around1812 and it is a small college town as well). Visit the gold museum in the town square. While near Dahlonega, we went to Frogtown Vineyards, Three Sister Vineyards, but still our favorite was Wolf Mountain Vineyards from an overall beauty standpoint. Ate at the Smith House while in Dahlonega. Our vacation was awesome. Thanks for sharing your wonderful Georgia mountain cabin with us and giving us a chance to explore the area.
