Fun Family Weekend! Beautful Setting!
We purchased a 2 night stay at Sangre De Cristo Home at a silent auction fundraiser, never having heard of the place. We used it to gather for the weekend with our kids and grandkids for my 50th birthday celebration. The home was very remote, almost an hour's drive from Woodland Park, on some fairly rocky roads. But once we arrived, we were charmed with the house, it's layout, and the fact that it was so secluded. The set up was great, with a bedroom and bathroom on each level. My husband and I took the master suite on the top level. I must say, whoever designed a bedroom with glass doors wasn't thinking about privacy! The beds were comfortable, and the bathrooms were clean. We had some issues with heating, and each level has separately controlled heat, but because of the open design, all the heat from the house seemed to travel upstairs. It took lots of adjusting, and opening and closing of windows throughout the weekend, but by the end of our stay we had the temperature mostly figured out!
The second morning we awoke to find we had no hot water, so no one could shower. We called the caretaker, and he was out within an hour's time to fix it. Turned out, a brief power outage during the night had reset the hot water heating system, and it was quickly rectified.
The deck was wonderful for sitting outside, and the views were beautiful. I would suggest staining the deck soon, as it was down to bare wood, and very splintery. Our grandsons kept walking out on the deck barefooted, and we spent a lot of time pulling splinters out of their feet!
We cooked all our meals at the cabin, and although it had plenty of cookware, the rest of the kitchen supplies were sorely lacking. An 8 piece place setting of dishware and silverware is not enough for a cabin that sleeps 8 people! We were washing dishes constantly to have enough plates, glasses and silverware throughout the day. Also, there were no plastic containers, aluminum foil or plastic wrap, although the website said there would be, so there was no way to save leftovers.
The big screen TV in the lowest level was enjoyed by the kids, although that was the only television in the home. I believe the website said there were 2, although that wasn't an issue for us. The hot tub was enjoyed too, and was very easy to operate, although the tie-down system for the lid is a little confusing.
All in all, it was a great get away weekend of memory making for our family!
