About The Owner

I'm living here now for almost 30 years. I saw this area rising to the nicest area in Amsterdam. I live here now with my family upstairs. The plan is in the future to live at the basement as well. It is a beautifull place with a beautifull patio. I put a new bathroom and kitchen in it at the end of 2012 because of two reviews. Because I'm living upstairs I don't want any complaints.

The Owner purchased this apartment in 1980

Very Convenient

This apartment is perfect for any visit to The Dam. My husband and I stayed there for 8 days and had a great time. The space is large and open, with a wonderful closed in patio and bathroom with skylight with Tulip Tree branches over it that were in bloom during our stay. The neighborhood is quiet and Paul is always ready and willing to help. The place was stocked with Maps and other information regarding things to see/do while in Amsterdam. There were plenty of clean towels and sheets and dishes/glasses. There was even a bottle of wine awaiting our arrival. The flower arrangements and candles added to the overall experience. We did not try to use the computer on the on a desk in the living room, we used our own laptop and had no problem with connecting. It would have been nice to have a printer so we purchased one so that we could print our Tour Tickets when we made reservations online and also we could print our Plane Boarding Passes. We left the printer in the apartment and hope it is still there when we come back!

We also experienced some sewer smell for a couple of hours one day from the bathroom although we could not tell where it was coming from - it did dissipate fairly quickly. Yes, there is a little bit of mildew in the caulk in the shower but it was insignificant as far as we were concerned. Yes, the wooden flooring is old and squeeky but that just adds to the charm. The only suggestions we can make are two: 1) Replace that bedroom carpet, and 2) Get sheets that fit the King Bed properly.

THANKS PAUL - WE WILL BE BACK!!! :D

Great location, nice clean flat

All Amsterdam flats are long and narrow. Taxes are based on the width of the frontage. This is a ground floor flat which was probably once a storefront. The floor in the living room and kitchen area are well worn and uneven wood planks..
The living room has a sofa and a daybed, two chairs and a desk. The kitchen is equipped as described by the owner, Paul.
The bathroom has a large shower and a separate very large bathtub. The sink is also extra large. The bathroom floor is level and a nice slate tile. A skylight with a vine growing on it makes the room very well bright. For our week, there was absolutely no smell, nor moldiness.
It is not a four star hotel, but neither is the price.
Location: On a quiet street with the main drag just down an alley. Several more than adequate restaurants are within two blocks of the flat. A good supermarket, Jumbo, is a block away. Laundromat is on the main drag. ATM's are also close. A major tram station is four blocks (3 canals) away.
Also two different temporary markets occurred during our six night stay. One food oriented, the other merchandise at very reasonable prices.
We had a great time.

Stay in the Jordaan

The apartment is centrally located - not too far from the Centraal Station and close to the Westerkerk and AnneFrankhuis as well as a number of friendly little Dutch pubs. There was plenty of room for the four of us and all the basic amenities you would need - oven, microwave, refrigerator and an available computer with Wi-Fi. The area seemed safe and well-lit at night. Just around the corner from a canal. It was not too clean when we arrived but there was a vacuum cleaner and supplies available. Overall it was a comfortable, safe place. I would certainly return and I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a reasonable, convenient and delightful place to rest their head after a busy day in Amsterdam.

Solid stay in the Jordaan, steps away from Prinsengracht

This ground floor apartment was quite handy during my 14th overall and 8th solo trip to Amsterdam. This was my third vacation rental property in succession, and I don't see any reason to use a hotel any more, honestly. The overall VALUE for the money would render a 5-star rating. I reckon it is impossible to beat a 210 Euro stay during 3 nights in off-peak mid-January. One would be hard-pressed to find a hotel in a similar neighborhood for twice that amount.

The apartment came with its own private door entrance, for which the key worked well. The unit is located on a quiet street, yet not more than a 10 minute walk to most all things in the Centrum. The unit was PLENTY spacious for one and would be comfortable for up to 3-4 people, depending on the extent of your stay. The owner, Paul, was very easy to work with, and ultimately laid-back and friendly.

My rating did not garner a full, 5-star rating based upon 2 reasons:

1) Computer/internet, advertised herein, did not function at all. I am not one that uses much internet while on vacation, but I like "having access" handy...just in case. This trip would prove to be just that case. I inadvertently left my wallet in a restaurant in the U.S. the night prior to my trip, and was left in a financial bind, in terms of accessing cash. Use of handy internet would have eased my minor "issue" more expeditiously in the home, but, no large deal in the grand scheme; as I accessed cash eventually and used internet elsewhere.

2) the bathroom. was not as disenchanted as some reviewers seemed, however, the toilet, located only feet from your resting head (in king-sized) bed, did have somewhat of a sewage odor, but one must realize, you are in Europe on a ground floor, and some odor is somewhat expected. You can close the bathroom door to eliminate any odor eminating into the bedding quarters. The shower did have a moderate musty/mildewey smell, and though not bothersome, the three-foot radius of tile around toilet region floor did "squish," when walked upon, but no water surfaced.

with the above being mentioned, I still give this place four enthusiastic stars. my candor should also speak to the sincerity of a "real" scenario/description.

another highlight is the centre courtyard, which affords privacy, a cool outdoor space, and a place to ventilate your smoke, if needs be.

Our Home away from home in Amsterdam

5 of 5
Submitted: January 15, 2013 Stayed: December 2012
My partner, brother and I were looking for a "home" to base ourselves for a couple of weeks in Amsterdam and the three of us couldn't have asked for anything more. I wholeheartedly agree with all the previous positive reviews... Paul's apartment is perfectly located in a beautiful corner of Amsterdam, close to all your needs and is just a delight to walk out and start exploring the city (in fact I could probably just spend 2 weeks shopping and walking Jordaan alone!) Best of all, it is so relaxing and comfortable to come home to after a big day out.
It is not a modern, fancy home and nor did we expect that but it is extremely cosy and we felt at home from day one. Coming from Australia we weren't sure how we would handle the winter chills but it was toasty warm in the apartment and we didn't need any extra blankets (though there was plenty there). We actually left Amsterdam for a few nights to continue on our journey but we all missed Paul's place so much we decided to return for a few more days. Paul was very easy to deal with and we had no hassles whatsoever. The markets (literally around the corner on Saturday) were wonderful to stock up on amazing fresh food (my fave - wild mushrooms galore!) and tempting to try and fit an antique oddity into the suitcase to take home.
We had the best holiday and would have no hesitation in booking Paul's place next time we come back to Amsterdam (hopefully soon!!)

This place was perfect for myself and three of my friends to stay for a couple of days. It was spacious and close to everything we needed. Wifi was included and we knew if we had any questions, Paul would be happy to answer. The bathroom needs a little upgrading, but other than that it was absolutely perfect. Thanks for a being a great host, Paul!

wonderful month

We actually arrived at the end of May last year, spending the entire month of June. While the apt could use some upgrading, it was large, had everything we needed and was steps away from everything: grocery store, bakery, markets, canal. We had a wonderful month there. Paul, the owner, was incredibly helpful to us. over and above anything expected in a landlord. One year later, we look back on our month there with much nostalgia.

Great place. Central. Comfortable. Relaxed.

If you are traveling to Dam and want a central place that is nicely located next to the grocery and other shops, Paul's place will be perfect. He is an easygoing host, and the flat has all you need: modern appliances, gas stove, oven/micro, bath, shower, etc. A smallish inner courtyard allows light and air to move through the house quickly, and the table and chairs there are perfect for meals, coffee, or just whatever! Open the door and you are basically looking at the grocery store; turn to your right or left and you've got the canals. Yet the flat is on a quiet street, and is a great place to relax after a day out, or for preparing to explore the city nightlife.

After extensively searching many online sites for the best and cheapest place to stay in Amsterdam, I found this apartment and booked it. Unfortunately, my family had to change our plans and would not be visiting Amsterdam. Paul was very friendly and courteous and gave me my deposit back without a hassle. I look forward to staying in his beautiful home next year when we visit. Happy travels! :)

Amsterdam Girls trip

My friends and I stayed at Paul's apartment this month for a 5 day trip. There were 5 of us in the apartment and we all fit very comfortably. No stairs at all which was great! The apartment is VERY spacious and in an excellent location. The Anne Frank House is literally around the corner and it took us only about 10 minutes to walk to Dam Square everyday. The neighborhood is quiet at night. The kitchen was so great to have and we put it to good use and Paul was very helpful with every question we had and gave us great information. I will definitely stay here again when I return to Amsterdam! Thanks so much!
