Lobstering & Fishing Fun!

Review Submitted: November 10, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
Dear Pat & Steve,

We had a great week! The lobstering was great and the fishing was fun! We took home fresh lobster, tuna, and dolphin.

Your views from the home were beautiful & we loved having the boat so close. One evening we were watching the minnows & tropical fish off the dock when a nurse shark swam by followed by a 4 foot barracuda! Only in the Keys!

We went to Key West Wednesday when the heat reached 106 degrees F! The shops provided a welcome relief, and ladies, Pandora Charms are sold down there! The shop is not far from Hard Rock and claimed to have 1 of every charm available! I got a chicken to remember Key West by! There is also a great sandal shop by the Mel Fisher Museum – he offers great deals on Crocs, Columbia’s, Reef, and the yoga mat clip flops!

For dining out, we enjoyed Snapper’s in Key Largo, the greatest and famous fish sandwich at Craig’s in Tavernier, the Outback, and the Fish House.

We only wish a week wasn’t so short! Thanks!

Lovely House with Great Views

Lovely house with great views from both decks. Great sound system & a well-appointed house.

We enjoyed using wave runners at Holiday Isle & also swam with the dolphins at Theater of the Sea which is only 5 mins drive from the house. We signed up for scuba diving at Bud ‘n’ Mary’s, but the weather wasn’t good enough on the day. We also fed the tarpon at Robbie’s – following a previous guest’s recommendation – and this was good.

We wanted to parasail at Holiday Isle, but this activity never appeared to be available – however, we managed to parasail at Key West & this was great. We enjoyed the buzz of Key West and had a great lunch at the Rum Barrel.

We played tennis at Founder’s Park, which did not cost us anything as no one was at the gate when we arrived, but we had our lease agreement as Steve advised this would give us free access.

We ate at Hog Heaven, Island Grill, Chilli Willi’s (OK but not for the fine dining experience, but the kids enjoyed the games room – good basic food, value for money), Boardwalk Pizza (OK), plus we used the BBQ a couple of times.

Great relaxing week – the house had everything.

Great Time! Beautiful House!

Great Time! Beautiful House!

Rented a boat from Vacation Boat Rentals and fished daily except for one day to Key West, which was much too fast paced for our vacation.

Fished the Eagle and other local reefs & chummed up mangrove, yellow tail, and others. Bring your local catch to Lazy Days & they will cook it to your liking.

Definitely feed the tarpon at Robbie’s & if you like kayaking, rent a single or a double or canoe and paddle the mangroves. Short paddle into the backwoods behind the marina or paddle to the island. All can be done within your 4 hour timeframe. $45 single, $65 double.

Pool is beautiful. Boat at your doorstep. Overall great time!

Great Accommodations! Priceless Views!

Great Accommodations! Priceless Views!

We had a fabulous week of scuba diving, snorkeling with our kids, spending time with the family and some relaxing!

Key Dives at Bud ‘n’ Mary’s Marina is the best for scuba diving. Everyone on the staff is extremely helpful and friendly.

I’m glad we went down to Robbie’s Marina to take the kids snorkeling on the Happy Cat. The kids got to feed the tarpon at the marina.

Theater of the Sea was a nice experience for the kids. It is small so they were able to sit up close to every show.

Our best dinner was at Islamorada Fish Co. We got to watch them feed the sharks and tarpon. Dinner was good too! Not too pricey even though the setting makes it look expensive.

Special thanks to Steve for his quick response when we lost A/C. It was only out for a little while and he was readily available to talk us through getting it back on.

We are taking back tons of mosquito bites. But tons of great memories too!

Beautiful House - Great Snorkeling!

Review Submitted: October 25, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
Dear Pat & Steve,

We had a wonderful time in your beautiful house. We went out snorkeling at “Hens & Chickens,” Alligator” and “Cheeca Rocks.” We were cruising between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. Just Gorgeous!

We liked very much the Morada Bay Restaurant (directly south next to Pierre’s).

We didn’t miss anything in your house – very well equipped.

The view from the balcony is breathtaking!

We had a great time!

Family Diving vacation

Came to the Keys for my husband & teenage sons to get their scuba certification. They dived 6 out of 8 days here! Really liked the folks at Rainbow Reef Divers in Key Largo. Recommend them.

Got here on the 4th and went to the fireworks at Founders Park. Very nice. Lots of great seafood while here, and stop at Boardwalk Pizza – great pizza and Philly cheese steaks!

House is great – slept really well. We will miss being here, although I have to say that after living on the West Coast of the US (Portland, Oregon and San Diego), I forgot how humid it is (lived in Philly for 30 years).

Nice place, enjoyed our stay. Hope to return.

PS: watch out for the mosquitos!

Diving and Dining

We loved staying at your home. The thing we liked about it besides the amazing views and beautiful home was the central location in the Keys.

We were diving for a few of the days and were close to the Key Largo dive shop we would highly recommend: Quiessence Divers. We also went to Bahia Honda Beach and Key West in the other direction so we felt we were very central to enjoying the other keys. Florida is not highly touted in the diving community as a dive location, but I found the diving to have beautiful reefs, although shallow, and prolific fish life. We did one shallow wreck dive, but would like to return for some of the deeper wrecks.

Restaurants were fine, but nothing to really write home about with the exception of an excellent Mexican restaurant in Key West called the Old Town Mexican Café. It had traditional excellent Mexican food plus some great unusual offerings as well as good margaritas! We also enjoyed Mama Mac's in Key Largo for just old fashioned diner food-good hamburgers and sandwiches plus a Key Lime milkshake that was amazing! We had two dinners at the Islamorada Fish Company and enjoyed the sunsets, the tarpon, nurse sharks, groupers and other fish that gather in their little lagoon, the drinks (orange mojitos and guava margaritas!) & the food (in that order) made it a great, close location.

We also did a snorkeling trip out of the John Pennekamp park, but I would recommend doing boat snorkeling out of one of the dive shops in a smaller boat. We were on a boat of around 40 and there were two other large boats out there so we were snorkeling (at a beautiful shallow reef) with at least 100 of our closest friends-a big cluster!

I'd love to bring my husband and kids to the Keys to explore some more of the diving and would definitely like to stay at your home again. It was a delightful place to stay and I would highly recommend it to others. You have one of the best 3 locations in the development and a beautiful home.

Sincerely,
Bobbi Jo

We'll Be Back!

Review Submitted: August 17, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We had a wonderful time on our vacation! Your house was beautiful. We have already told several of our friends about your unit at Angler's Reef. It is by far the nicest place to stay in that area of the Keys.

We loved the convenience of the boat docks and the direct access to the ocean. We spent several days offshore fishing and snorkeling. I took the kids to the Theater of the Sea and spent a day down in Key West with them while the guys were fishing. According to local captains, the fishing was a little off for that time of the year, but we did catch some dolphin, snapper, grouper and even several trigger fish. On the boat ride down from Naples, my husband and his friend caught a few cobia.

We ate dinner out every night. A few restaurants I would recommend are Wahoo’s at Whale Harbor and Uncles. If you want something casual but a little more upscale with really good food, Uncles is the place to go!

Thanks so much and we will definitely be renting again at 140 Angler's Reef!

P.S. We were also highly impressed with your professionalism and timely responses to our emails.

Paradise!

Review Submitted: July 16, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
When we walked into the house, our first response was Wow! Your home is gorgeous. The pictures do not do it justice. The open floor plan and high ceilings on the 1st floor are wonderful. And the views are magnificent, inside and out.

Within the first hour of arriving, we were in the ocean, marveling at the warm water. A manatee was swimming in the cove beside us, drinking water from a hose on the dock. What an exciting start to our vacation! The kids sent pictures to their parents and all of their friends. Adam even got in the water (slowly) and petted her. The boys fished in the lagoon and according to Alex, caught more fish in 30 minutes than with Grandpa in 3 months.

Many past guests mentioned going to other beaches, so Sunday we went to Cannon Beach. Paul started grumbling right away, but the kids and I snorkeled over the shipwreck and lazed in the water. But before long, even the kids said, "Can we go back to our house? Our private beach is so much better! And we have a pool and the house is right there. And it is much prettier!"

Angler's Reef is beautiful- the houses, colors, landscaping, pool, ocean. It has it all! We loved hanging out there. Why go anywhere else!

We kayaked right from our private beach (Cowboy Outfitters has free delivery) and swam in the ocean. During low tide a giant sandbar appeared not far from shore. Walking the sandbar was one of our favorite things... finding all sorts of creatures- sea urchins, crabs and more. We rescued a stranded fish trapped on the sandbar, moving it to the other side, so it could swim out into the open water. We even helped a stranded jet skier get off the sandbar! On Friday, we spotted a (small) hammerhead shark swimming with us, circling and darting between us. Samantha's dream come true. She says, better than swimming with dolphins. We played in the pool everyday, too. I loved lying back in the pool, looking up at the palm trees swaying in the clear blue sky, with the colorful houses in the background. Paradise! In the evenings, we built bonfires, played games and watched movies.

Monday (the twins 15th birthday) we rented a 23 ft boat from Robbie's. We snorkeled Cheeca Rocks, motored around the ocean and fished in the bay. When we got back to Robbie's, they gave each of the kids a bucket of fish (no charge!) to feed the tarpon. We topped off the day with dinner at Island Grill- fantastic King Crab Legs!

What more could anyone ask for! It was truly a fabulous vacation. Thank, you!

Family Fishing and Fun

Texas Tarpon Hunter Family Ft. Worth, Texas
Review Submitted: July 5, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
Steve and Pat,

We enjoyed your beautiful home in Islamorada very much!Drove around one day to look at restaurants and other places....and always happy to come back to Angler's Reef.
We would love to come back one day!

Our family spent many hours at Robbies.....feeding the tarpon, shopping, jet skiing, and really enjoyed the snorkeling trip with the Happy Cat.

We ate most meals at home, as we loved to sit on the porch in the evenings, and the boys fished with Fred from Whale Harbor usually from 4-8 pm. We were also interested in watching the College World Series (University of TX) and The US Open.

The meal at Morada Bay was wonderful, thank you!

Picked up pizza and pasta from The Rustic Inn (Italian Cuisine) just down a few miles....it was very very good!! A place for take home food (not to eat in).

The kids fished from the docks with really not much luck, but then they like to fish for BIG fish from the boats.

Key West was a nice drive....very hot that day. We had planned to stay longer until sunset, but were too tired.
Ate at Dante's in the harbor area...great fish tacos and a pool to jump in!

It was a perfect trip. Thank you so much for sharing your home!! Chris will send some more pictures to you.

Thanks again, Myra and Chris
