After a month I would be unable to find anything missing in this lovely apartment. It is well located, near two ferry stations, in a very secure area with a not so touristic flavour and very convivial. But most of all the hospitality of the owners made our stay unique! From Tulay waiting at my arrival to their constant care I felt so welcomed and amongst friends. At one point we were six in the apartment and it was very comfortable but even when I was alone it was pleasant. Evenings on the balcony watching the lights of Haya Sofia, the blue Mosquee and Topkapi palace and morning coffee watching the ferries go by will remain in my memory as some of my most precious travel souvenirs. Crossing the Bosphorus in the mornings was so pleasant and coming back at night with the cool breeze was a perfect end to busy days. But most of all the owners make all the difference. They truly enjoy meeting new people and are extremely generous with their time and care. The weather in June was perfect. Tekim introduced me to the various shops, just a few minutes walk from the apartment, and it was a delight every day to stop at the bakery, the fruit vendror and the butcher and be greeted with a big smile. Although we did not speak the language everyone went out of their way to help us. The owners speak english fluently and supplied us with all the information we needed. For anyone spending sufficient time it is worth it to get a little electronic device for the ferries and buses, as it saves you buying your tokens each time and waiting in line to do so. The price is the same but it is quite convenient. Ferries run continually and you never have to wait. It is a nice 10 minute walk downhill to the Uskudar ferry station and a flat 15 minute walk to the Harem ferry. Be sure to go out at night along the Bosphorous, 3 minute from the apartment, and enjoy the wonderful lively atmosphere. All in all the apartment was all it promised to be and much much more!

This was a first time experience in that I made a reservation for an apartment for a long stay via a website from across the world (USA). I was kind of nervous about it, but it all went according to plan. Honestly, it was close to perfect! We were two parties reuniting after many years in Istanbul. Since the apartment was on the 3rd floor I was concerned since two people in our party were over 70 years old. But this was a small price to pay for a great view of Bosporus the apartment had to offer. The apartment had all the comforts of home. For example, a kitchen with all the conveniences, an air conditioned living and dining room with an awesome view and bedrooms with all the amenities. Moreover, when we arrived, the apartment was immaculately clean.
We treasured the hospitality of Turkish people. Especially, Ertug's Dad whom on our second day of our stay took us with his car around the neighborhood and showed us where the local merchants are located. He even introduced us to the butcher, fresh fruit stand and the baker where he asked for their best service since we were his guest. Also, we won't forget the hospitality of our driver, Mr. Hakan. With his limited English of 6 words, he did communicate with us one way or another and met our needs.
I loved getting up early every morning and going to the local baker to get our daily fresh bread for our morning breakfast we enjoyed on the apartment’s balcony watching the ships out in the Bosporus.
We loved riding the ferries back and forth from 'Eskudar Eskeleh' port that was located about 1.5 miles away from the apartment.
All and all, we stayed in Istanbul for over 3 weeks and our stay at Ertug's apartment made this an amazing trip.

Thanks

I spent here 10 days in June '08 with my 88 years old mother and my sister, and I discovered a beautiful spot in the Asian side of Istanbul, in the district of Uskudar. The apartment has really anything one might need, PC and satellite TV included, it is at walking distance from Uskudar harbour (where one can reach by ship the European side), the owner - very helpful and always reachable - could even provide a lady who would cook and clean for us.
We could enjoy the sunset and a beautiful landscape of the Bosphorous shore from the balcony, in a nice and calm environment. I have beautiful memories of my holiday in this apartment with my family, and I envy the ones who will be guest in the future.

Stay away

Beware when booking this rental. We had an unfortunate experience which has resulted in quite an expensive lesson. We prepaid for our entire stay by wiring a large sum of money to the homeowner's bank account. Upon arrival at the airport, we were transported to the apartment by the presumed homeowner, Ertug. Ertug told us he purchased the apartment with his wife, who lives in another country, and they renovated it recently. The first sight of rats concerned us, but as we entered the apartment things got a little worse. We gave very generous tips for the ride, and for the maid who had just cleaned the unit, and when we asked about the air conditioning, Ertug nervously put our bags down, said "nine months winter here" and left. The problem was that we were there in the middle of the summer and it was very hot and humid. We had asked for plenty of bed sheets, and the 2 sheets that were left in the bedroom were full of hair. We tried to use the fan but it was non-functional. The unit was unclean and we were disappointed to say the least. When we contacted Ertug, we asked what the penalty would be if we needed to find alternate accommodations for the rest of our stay. He advised us of the amount we would forfeit, and asked us to wait a few days for our refund. A couple days after we checked into our new hotel, we received a series of angry emails from Ertug's father, who claimed the apartment did not belong to Ertug, but it belonged to himself, and that we would not be receiving the refund that was promised. He later called, cursing, yelling, and threatening that he would throw us out of the country. We tried to explain our position; it being dishonorable that we were not given the opportunity to decide whether we were willing to forfeit such an amount of money before leaving the apartment. In the midst of arguments and drama among the family, Ertug asked us not to listen to his father because "he always talks to people like that," and that he would refund our money, if we agreed not to tell his father. We trustingly left Istanbul with his word. Well, after 5 months, Ertug's replies to our emails have been nothing but "we have his word", promises and excuses, and when he ran out of those, he decided to ignore us entirely. There are many scams in Istanbul. However, there are plenty of choices when booking your travel. I'm here to say that your time and money is most definitely well spent elsewhere with people who will take good care of you.
Owner's Response: These guests did not even stay in the apartment and full refund has been issued to them. They are free to express their story becouse we live in a democratic society however we have been on Homeaway since 2006 with no other complaints. We have total of 3 properties with no complaints. These guest maybe spend 30 minutes inside the apartment which I allowed them to use the apartment computer (was a favor). For a Fact. 1. There are no rats in the Building. 2. The carpets are cleaned by pro carpet cleaning company after each guest. 3. There is a large cold 9000 BTU A/C in the apartment. 4. Daily housekeeping is provided with our Lady who has been working with us for over 10 years. 5. Sheets, Linens, Blankets, Forks and kitchenware is being replaced with new ones every 6 months.
