Apartamentos Iguanas is situated in a peaceful, private & safe hideaway location in Esterillos Oeste, just 20 minutes South of Jaco Beach and 45 minutes North of Manuel Antonio.
We offer 3 quaint, tranquil, ocean view units. They're fully furnished and include a/c, cable TV, kitchen (complete with dishes, pots, pans and utensils) oven, range, microwave, refrigerator, rice cooker, blender and a toaster. All three units have a queen size bed that sleeps two adults with an additional full size bed that pulls out from underneath and sleeps two children or one adult comfortably (a tight fit for two adults). The bottom unit also has an additional small bedroom with a dresser and a full size bed. Air mattresses, pack and play crib and/or highchair are available upon request.
All units have access to the pool with a choice of two outdoor showers one by the cabinas and the other pool side. To the left side of the pool is a large, covered, ocean view BBQ area. To the right side of the pool is a two story zen tower for bird watching, meditation or a good game of cards. Just 10 feet down the hill from the pool is a secluded Ranchero complete with seating, electricity, BBQ and running water. Perfect for additional outdoor dining and hangout space. A private path will lead you to the beach which is just a short 5 minute walk from the property. There is one general store and a handful of restaurants and bars all within walking distance. And when your stomach is full, you can walk through miles of tide pools during low tide. If you’re up to it you can keep walking to Punta Judas which spans a quarter mile out into the ocean which hosts a protected turtle reserve. Once the tide starts coming in, grab your surf board, head out and enjoy the world renowned surf.
Toward the end of the day grab a chair, kick your feet up and relax in the ocean breeze with the beautiful iguanas and tropical birds on your covered balcony while overlooking the splendor of Esterillos Oeste beach through the tropical trees of paradise.
Directions from San Jose International Airport (Juan Santamaria, SJO)
The drive from the San Jose airport (Juan Santamaria International Airport) to Jaco will take any where from 1 hour to 1 hour and 30 minutes and is fully paved with the new highway in place. We suggest exchanging at least $5 US dollars into Costa Rican colones for the tolls on the highway. Ask any rental car agents or taxi drivers to send you off in the right direction, which should be west on Route 1, past the airport. Drive defensively and be aware when two lanes become one, 'CEDA' means 'Yield'.
Note: The first 13 km uses the same 'old' route to Manuel Antonio. GPS devices might not be updated and will likely still have the 'old' route so do not rely on them to follow the complete recommended route.
Once on Route 1 - follow signs to San Ramon, and continue straight ahead for about 10 km. After the second bridge crossing, get in the right lane and take the next exit (Route 3) for Jaco / Quepos / Manuel Antonio. There is also a sign here for Punta Leona and Atenas. Turn left at the stop sign, crossing back over Route 1.
Follow Route 3 for about 3 km. Look for a large Christian church on the left and then a soccer field and make a left on the road immediately after it. You are on the road to Turrucares. There are no signs and it's a secondary road, so don't think you've made a mistake. It's currently the best connection to the toll highway from the airport.
Drive for another 3 km through this somewhat winding road. Once you arrive at the highway intersection turn left BEFORE the highway. Again, there are no signs here yet. Be careful as it's a narrow two-way gravel access road. After some 300 meters you will arrive at a roundabout. Make a right following the highway signs to Orotina / Atenas.
Drive on the highway through 2 toll booths. Then, take the next right exit to Route 34, follow signs for Jaco / Quepos. This exit forms a loop and then you bypass a roundabout to continue straight to Jaco (another 36 km).
Follow Route 34 (also called Costanera) for a while and you will cross over the Tarcoles River Bridge - there are usually a few cars parked before/after the bridge since it is a popular viewing point for the crocodiles lurking in and around the river.
Shortly after this you will see the ocean on your right hand side and then you will pass Punta Leona. Roughly ten minutes later you will pass the entrance to Los Suenos on your right side and then Plaza Herradura Shopping Mall will be on the right hand corner with Automercado supermarket and different shops and restaurants (perfect time to stop for some groceries).
Next you will see signs for entering Jaco on the right hand side.
KEEP STRAIGHT ON THE HIGHWAY, DO NOT TAKE ANY OF THE EXITS INTO JACO.
After driving thru the outskirts of Jaco the road follows a wide uphill curve to the right. Here you find a viewing point overlooking Jaco and Jaco Bay. Once you pass this point the road turns to the left, from here it will be twenty minutes to Esterillos.
Playa Hermosa – Great surfing!
Esterillos is broken up into three towns, in order from North to South (traveling from Jaco to Esterillos). Esterillos Oeste, Esterillos Central & Esterillos Este. You will be taking the first entrance into Esterillos Oeste. You’ll travel roughly 1 km into town where you will see a restaurant and a small super market (Super Sol) on your right. Take a right just past the super sol. This paved road winds to La Sirena Hotel which will be on your left side. From there you will go 100 meters and turn right up a dirt hill (Canada Hill) which bends to the right as you reach the top. You will see a sign for Apartamentos Iguanas along with two brick pillars. Turn right down a long driveway and you have reached paradise. Enjoy your stay!
We are family owned and operated. Very hospitable, friendly and accommodating to our guests. Marga and Russ Hanks own and occupy the property. Son James helps maintain the property and Daughter Krista manages the online inquiries from the states. Thanks for taking the time to look at our listing.
Close to the beach with a beautiful ocean view and yet the property is still very large and secluded.
You can't beat the beautiful private trail leading down toward the beach!
