A Place Time Forgot

Patty and Wes Noank, CT
Review Submitted: July 20, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
No review can convey how truly special this cottage is. Brooke has lovingly decorated this cottage with art and beautifully restored furnishings. The cottage is fully supplied for a holiday - and if you like to cook you can cook about anything from boiling lobsters to baking an unforgettable desert. Everything about An Tigin is spotlessly maintained.
The cottage garden, visible from every window in the front of the house, is set off against the changing light of sky and harbor.
Ocean views surround you- in the dining area, the bedroom, the living room and the comfortable deck. The cottage's large yard is on the waterfront and set among other handsome cottages with quiet, but friendly neighbors.
Just beyond the cottage a magical narrow bridge invites you to Capitol Island with its cottages, rocky shore and secluded beach. It was so relaxing to walk around the island in the evening and see the twnkling lights of Boothbay Harbor from the bridge.
If you want to experience the quiet and beauty of the gulls, tides, sunsets and star gazing or the adventure of kayaking and bicycling, An Tigin will provide you with a perfect vacation.
Owner's Response: My heart and soul go into this little cottage, and I hope all who walk through the door feel what I have done to make it this way, it truly is an enchanting cottage and area! Each year I fuss to make "An Tigin" nicer and I will continue to do so to make those memories last for those who come and stay! Thank you and we hope to see you again!

A Perfect Vacation & an Incredible Value

Review Submitted: October 31, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We had the pleasure of staying at An Tigin for our first vacation with our young daughter. She was 15mos old at the time and we could not have found a more perfect location. Brooke made sure the cottage had a crib and was 'baby-proofed' prior to our arrival. There were plenty of both indoor and outdoor toys to keep her busy and happy. The location is so naturally beautiful and private that we didn't feel like we were missing anything during her frequent naps. We could sit on the deck and just enjoy the scenery and fresh air. During our outings we had such a variety of things to do within walking distance and/or a short drive to Boothbay. We were never bored. As stated in other reviews the cottage has everything you need. Since eating out had become a bit of a challenge at that stage, we often opted for takeout or prepared meals ourselves which only added to the overall value to us. I really can't express what it meant to have our very first family vacation be such a positive and fun experience for all of us.
Owner's Response: From the youngest of guests like Carly to the eldest, I try to provide what is needed to make a vacation as special as possible. A crib, high chair, plenty of toys, children's books and a wagon is just part of the package here at "An Tigin".
Thank you Stacey, Nathan and your tiniest family member, Carly!

We hope to see you again!
Brooke

Great cottage for perfect vacation

Review Submitted: September 26, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We (family with three kids aged 17,17 and 12) had a wonderful time in An Tigin! After a long trip from Germany to the US and a tour from NYC to Niagara, Toronto and Montreal we finally arrived in Southport and - felt like coming home. The place is really beautiful, the cottage is very clean, tastefully decorated, and you 'll find everything you need. We have seen many holiday cottages here in Europe but never found one with a personal note like Brooke' s An Tigin.
The area is fantastic, you sit on the deck having breakfast or dinner, enjoy the view on the water, and the only noises you can hear are some seagulls. On Capitol Island, only a few steps away, you find a pretty beach, kayaking is much fun - you can really do a lot of things.
Brooke - the owner - is very helpful and a pleasure to do business with. She provided us with perfect maps and instructions how get to An Tigin and she knows an answer to every question. We rented some bikes in Boothbay Harbor for the week - Southport Island is a good place to cycle.
We 'd have liked to stay one more week - unfortunately the next guests were arriving. So we will return later - we highly recommend An Tigin to anyone. Thank you, Brooke!
Owner's Response: Thank you Bettina & Thomas! You were my first German family to stay here and I am pleased you liked "An Tigin". I hope many guests from all over the world come choose my tiny cottage and enjoy their stay. Your holiday is my business and to make it the most memorable is my number one detail not because it is business, but because I would want that where I spend my holiday. To my German family we do hope you return again very, very soon! Thank you again!

Takes the Time and it Shows

Noahpapi Baltimore, MD
Review Submitted: September 23, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
In searching for properties, we came across so many that just had the most minimal of descriptions and amenities. As attested in other reviews, Brooke has taken time and care with the cottage and it shows. But, more importantly for future renters, she took the time to include additional information in her description that was crucial in choosing her cottage. And Brooke took a lot of care answering all of our questions before arriving including multiple attachments for directions, activities, and surrounding points-of-interest.
Because my wife and I were visiting with our 1.5 yr old toddler, we didn't eat out too much so the full kitchen was definitely key for us. We enjoyed a lot of walking on Capitol Island and on several of the areas hiking trails which all have these serene views of the beautiful landscape of pine trees, the multiple bays and rivers, and the quaint little cottages that dot the coastline. The Railway Village was also very cute and our son enjoyed riding the train, being pulled in a barrel train by a tractor, and just walking around the "frozen in time" village.
We would absolutely recommend this to anyone and would stay here again if we come back to visit the area in the future. Thanks!
Owner's Response: Thank you Marlene and David. As a cottage owner it is nice to be appreciated for all that goes into a "full service" rental. This cottage is not an investment only, it is family owned and a very special little place. I do try to help future guests with anything that could help them with their holiday vacation, like where the restaurants with the best food are, the best scenic drives, boat trips to take for particular interests and even what "day to day living items" they would need to bring in case they have never rented a property before. I like to find out when a guest inquires about my cottage what sort of things they are looking to do and I try to do the legwork for them so they don't lose precious time once they are here. I don't just rent a cottage, I try to make each and every future guest have the most memorable time of their life, this is how I grew up, by renting cottages for our family vacations and how special those times were with family, as a nation we are falling apart and if my little cottage can bring a family together with great memories that is what I can do for the future of our world. thank you again Marlene and David, we hope to see you again some day soon!

Our Home away from Home

Tweezie Quebec, Canada
Review Submitted: September 16, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
Brooke has thought of everything.....Imagine arriving to fresh-cut flowers in the living room and dining room in September. Think of sinking your feet into plush wall-to-wall carpeting in a cottage! Then you have arrived at "An Tigin".. Every amenity that one could think of and so much more! The outside deck overlooking a bay area beside Capitol Island, which is just a walk across the bridge from the cottage. One of the most comfortable beds we've slept in for a long time when travelling; a well-appointed kitchen; a very full flower bed at the front door (even after a dismal weather summer); a lovely old claw footed bathtub - anyone visiting would want to return, or then again, probably never leave! Going in September means less of a crowd within Boothbay Harbor area but still things to see and purchase. It's also within proximity to lots of day-trip attractions, including Wiscasset and Freeport, so spending is not a problem, and eating fresh and tasty seafood and fish is easy. Next trip we'll book a schooner cruise - a member of our group was sick, so we didn't make it, but there is always another time! The variety of meals at the Fisherman Wharf Inn were delicious for surf as well as turf. Arrived in time to participate in the last Cahoots Rock n Roll cruise of the season which takes you through the "swing" bridge twice and over to Bath Iron Works. Live music (60's-70's), livelier locals and great cheeseburgers on board. Don't forget to look through the photo albums showing the cottage's transformation.
Would highly recommend An Tigin and will be returning ourselves some time (hopefully sooner than later).
Owner's Response: "Tweezie" thank you for the great review! I cherish this once early 1900's car garage turned cottage, it has been a life of love for this place and each year I tweak it even more and hope that each guest will enjoy all the interesting trinkets that are placed around the cottage and its grounds. This cottage means the world to me and I want to make it special for each guest that enters through its door and this review helps to show that it truly is a special place. Again I thank you!

Wonderful cottage

LindaP North Chelmsford, MA
Review Submitted: August 20, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We had a wonderful and restful week at An Tigin. The cottage is clean, tastefully decorated and well equipped. The beds were very comfortable, a real plus for a light sleeper such as I. Brooke, the owner, was very helpful and great to do business with. I would highly recommend An Tigin if you need to get away from it all. The area is quiet and close to the ocean, great for walking, fishing or swimming. We would definitely stay here again.
Owner's Response: Thank you Linda! As someone who likes to travel, I understand how I would like to be treated and how special I would like my holiday for my family to be, so I try to make each guest's journey at "An Tigin" as easy and pleasant as possible. The tiny cottage is truly a memorable little place and I hope many guests to come feel that way when they walk through the door.

Home from Home in tranquil setting

Herb.and Pauline Dublin Ireland
Review Submitted: July 20, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
After a long journey from Ireland we were initially taken aback by the weather with thick fog to greet us the first two mornings . On the third morning "Gee that's better" a beautiful sunny day greeted us. This enabled us to have breakfast on the deck ,enjoying the wonderful vista over the completely calm water in total peaceful silence. The cottage really is a home from home. Other contributors have detailed the many attributes in the immediate area with which we agree, for us it proved to be the ideal base for exploring interesting places within 1 1/2 hours drive such as, the splendid sandy beach at Read's State Park, Maine State Museum at Augusta and the attractive town of Camden. All in all the cottage was ideal for a memorable and most enjoyable vacation. Well done Brooke!
Owner's Response: Thank you Pauline & Herbert, I am happy that you considered this your home away from home. We do try to make "An Tigin" a memorable one for all who visit. It truly is a special little place! I appreciated the information of places "to go and see" while here in Maine, as a resident I take these for granted, they have now been added to my Informational Notebook in the cottage...thank you!

Our stay at

Old Guys Rule Southern Maine
Review Submitted: July 16, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
We most enjoyed our stay in the cottage. It was bright, clean, well maintained, and central to all that the Boothbay region has to offer. We have recommended the cottage to friends and relatives alike, and would recommend it to anyone.

The cottage is very well equipped with all that you need for a pleasant stay - even instructions on how to cook lobster.

The wood stove is great for those chilly evenings and provides nice ambiance.

Our stay was most enjoyable and we plan to stay at "An Tigin" again.

An Tigin April 2009

Eileen and Ken Billerica, Mass
Review Submitted: May 11, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
"We regularly stay in Boothbay and wanted to get away earlier in the year than usual for us. An Tigin is a beautiful retreat tucked away from downtown but close enough to pop back in for a quick meal. The cottage is fabulous with outstanding decor, a fully applianced kitchen, and an exceptional view of the water from the living room couch or back deck.

The cottage isn't your typical Maine getaway. Every room is tastefully furnished, clean, and well appointed. We were pleasantly suprised by how well "finished" the cottage is. The neighborood is fantastic being on a less traveled road that actually connects to a private island.

Brooke runs a tight ship! Everything is there for you, from instructions on cooking lobsters to how to get the woodstove fired up. Once we settled in it was easy to relax, throw a match in the stove, and get comfortable as the osprey circled the water only a few hundred yards from the deck. We're looking forward to our next visit to "An Tigin!"

Cottage with beautiful ocean view is a true gem

CarolJean Arlington, MA
Review Submitted: April 16, 2009 Date of Stay: November 2008
This cottage and its setting are true gems. The peace and quiet and the wonderful fresh air seep into my very soul to both calm and refresh.

The cottage is a happy place; light and airy; immaculately clean with comfortable beds, and a fully equipped kitchen with new appliances. Its charm comes from Brooke's delightful decorating skill. She has hung framed prints of local artists along with her own excellent photographic work. Dried flower arrangements connect me to the lovely front yard garden. Each piece of furniture is unique, but it all blends together. I especially like the varied lamps throughout the cottage. The kitchen has a Yankee bean pot for utensils and there is a lobster cooker with instructions.

Lest you wonder if this is a cutesy, cluttered cottage - it is not. Brooke has tastefully chosen each item and showcased it perfectly to create a comfortable, harmonious environment. In comparison, even a well appointed hotel room seems cold and stark.
