The neighborhood: Galata is a historic and dynamic neighborhood - the newest area in Istanbul where artists are moving in and where gentrification is in full swing. It is a mix of old and new, East and West. Business and residential. It is close to the Galata Bridge and just down the street from the beginning of Istiklal, the pedestrian boulevard that runs for 2 miles and has some 950 restaurants, bars and shops. The best dining area is on the Galata end of Istiklal. This flat is one block from Galata Tower and just down the street from 'Turkish Music' street.
Galata article, and it has become far more popular now than 2 yrs ago when this article was written
The building is on the top of the hill overlooking the Bosphorus and the Old City, just 1 city block downhill from the landmark Galata Tower. Building is 6 stories high. Flat is on the 5th floor (4th floor by Euro standards) with no elevator. The roomy roof terrace with breathtaking views is shared by our 4 flats. Lots of dining space and tables, a barbeque and food prep area with small refrigerator. This flat also has a small private balcony with views.
The Galata neighborhood has been entirely unaffected by the demonstrations that have been taking place several miles away in Taksim Square. In the Galata neighborhood (same as 99.9% of Istanbul), life goes on as normal and you will find it delightful and entirely safe. If you would like email addresses from some of our guests who have stayed in this flat recently while demonstrations were taking place in Istanbul, we can supply them to you as a reference to the area's safety and delight!
I'm a travel writer who began my business Oneworld ltd in Turkey in 2006, as a way to introduce Western travelers to the real Istanbul. I bought this flat for its sunny views of the Bosphorus and Topkapki Palace, and for its location 1/2 city block from Galata Tower. An amazing neighborhood of alleys, shops, cafes, nightlife, and 'real' Turkish life.
Love this dynamic neighborhood and the views are amazing. You have access to a lovely roof terrace just above with breathtaking views of the Bosphorus and the famous mosques of Sultanahmet.
Large roof terrace renovated by me, with new teak chairs, food prep area, barbeque. It's shared with 5 other flats in the building. 3 of those flats are mine on the same floor with Terrace One, and you can rent 2 or more together if you wish to accommodate large groups. The views are so magical that wedding parties have even used it for their photo shoots. Large and you can have parties on the roof, or just sit quietly with your honey or loved ones, a glass of wine, and enjoy Istanbul spread out before you
