Photos and Description of the Kailua Kona vacation condo rental
Condo, 1 Bedroom + Other (See Description), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-6)

Looking for a place to watch spectacular sunsets every night and the occasional pod of dolphins swimming by, and sleep with the sound of the ocean surf against the lava rocks just below? We would like to share our home-away-from-home with you.

We like to think of our place as a 'one-and-a-half' bedroom. The main bedroom has a king-sized bed. The Murphy bed is queen size, yet hides away smartly enough that our friends have visited during the day and not known it was there. We've stayed for a week with my parents without feeling cramped, so we can safely say the unit sleeps 4 comfortably. We also keep an air bed for sleeping on the deck under the stars.

The kitchen is fully stocked for your extended use, including whatever you need for cooking, or just the microwave for heating your leftovers from the many restaurants within a mile north.

We have a flat-panel TV and connected DVD player. There's an Apple AirPort WiFi connection with AirTunes connected to the stereo and speakers if you want to bring your laptop and/or iTunes with you. We provide free dedicated WiFi in our unit, and there is additional WiFi access throughout the complex.

The property has an oceanfront pool and jacuzzi, as well as four gas-lit barbecue grills and several picnic tables in the garden area overlooking the pool and ocean for use by all.

There is a breakfast/deli-sandwich restaurant named Green Flash Coffee that shares the Sea Village complex parking lot, and they cater to your Kona coffee needs, as well as breakfast pastries, panini style sandwiches for lunch, smoothies, ice cream, ... open from 6am until 1 or 3pm depending on the day. We also recommend Island Lava Java restaurant delivery. Kona Reef Grocery & Deli offers a few groceries & sundries less than a half mile south.

Honls Beach is just over a quarter-mile north; the buoys marking the Ironman swim-course in the bay are anchored just a mile north and the southern buoys are visible from our place. Kahaluu Bay with its very excellent and novice-friendly snorkeling is a 8 minute drive to the south (or 45 minute walk for the athletically inclined!) and there is also golf and canoe-paddling 10 minutes to the south at Keauhou. Our unit has beach towels, beach chairs and a few beach toys to go with the regular linens provided for in unit use.

About The Owner

Your hosts, Amy & Kirk, met in the summer of 2007 when Kirk came to Kona for a month stay in this very condo. Both of us love the Big Island, from the pace of life to the wild, untamed nature of the vast outdoors ... but mostly we are beach people and love the ocean. Amy has been involved in outrigger paddling for several years, and would be glad to point you to places to go for an ocean swim.

The Owner purchased this condo in 2007
Why The Owner chose Kailua Kona

Kirk had come to the Big Island on several previous occasions and really liked the feeling of escaping from the hustle of life on the mainland. Amy had lived in Kona for 3 years and worked there as an architect. Both of us wanted a place that we could come back to as a 'home away from home', but we also want to share our beautiful spot with others. The spot at Sea Village is perfect, as it is walking distance from town, yet just far enough away to be quiet and out of the lights of the center of town. Of course, Kirk wouldn't look at a spot without a pool and jacuzzi, and having them oceanside at Sea Village makes the nightly experience all the better.

What makes this condo unique

The great thing about Sea Village is there is something of a community atmosphere to it. Every evening, there are guests using the covered gas barbecues on the lawns downstairs, and there are always people sharing the jacuzzi in the morning and the late evening. Our unit has a great lanai view of the ocean for breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus a view of Hualalai in the other direction.

5 weeks in Paradise

My wife and I have stayed at the Sea Village before, but not for several years. We went elsewhere because the facility overall seemed to be getting rather dogeared. But we came back this year and were pleasantly surprised. The grounds and exteriors are top notch for an older complex. This unit is well-maintained, fully equipped and ready to go. We were there about five weeks in all. We like the 3rd floor, despite having to climb the stairs, because it is quieter than other floors we have stayed on. Noise can be a real issue at the Sea Village as the bedrooms are often next to the stairs and walkways. I would quibble with the "ocean front" designation, but the view is, nonetheless, terrific. Would love to return someday.

We loved this unit. It had everything we needed if we were to cook. Aside the fact that I was on crutches, we loved everything about it. The owners were always in contact and answered any questions that we had. We will certainly rent from them again.

We were pleasantly surprised when we walked into our condo after 6 nights at two hotels. It had pretty much everything you would need for a comfortable vacation... but wait.. Its top floor location was key, and when we walked out onto the lanai the view was simply breathtaking!! For some reason the photo indicates that the water is farther away than it actually is. The view is so much better in "real life". Having the BBQ area right there below us was also so convenient and the grounds are beautiful and well kept. Both the king bed and Murphy bed were very comfortable and the only suggestion would be to add a blender to the kitchen. The owners were extremely accommodating and helpful, so all in all a very lovely experience!

My husband and I stayed about 3-1/2 months in Kirk & Amy's condo. This was our 2nd time. We love Kona and this condo is perfect. It is in a great location and it has everything that is needed. I cooked our Christmas dinner and it was delicious, especially when you eat it on the lanai. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to be close to town but not in it. My husband and I are in our 70's and we managed to get our groceries up the 3 flights. In fact my legs are in better condition than when I started. If you are into walking you must go to the old airport and walk the track there. It is beautiful. We got up every morning at 5:30 and went walking on the track at 6:30. The condo itself is clean, in a perfect location to see the dolphins, whales and the cruise ship every Wed. We will probably come back again soon. To spend the winter in Kona, in a great condo, with lovely views, and great people as neighbours is wonderful, especially when Kirk and Amy are always so obliging if you need to call them. A hui hou, till next time.

It was not oceanfront; it was ocean view.

The condominium was clean and comfortable. It had all the amenities needed. The ocean view
from the lanai was lovely. The neighbors and surrounding guests were friendly. The barbecue park was very well laid out, and the hot tub was great. I had a hard time lugging everything up and down three flights of stairs because there were no elevators. Also, a t.v. in the master bedroom would have been great. Small complaints really, for a great condominium in a wonderful location. It felt safe and friendly. Overall, a great stay!

Owner's Response: I am sorry for any confusion with regard to the use of the terms "oceanfront" versus "ocean view"; i tried to state right in the headline for the unit that the "lanai is 75 feet from the water", and that it is an "oceanfront complex", with access directly to the water without leaving the grounds, and the jacuzzi and pool right along the water. Yvonne, I'm glad you found the ocean view from the lanai lovely.

Amy & I have considered placing a television in the bedroom, but we have decided against it to keep the bedroom as a sort of sanctuary from mainland life. If there are others who stay & review our condo and really believe it would be significantly enhanced with a tv in the bedroom, we'll re-consider our choice.

The complex has considered elevators in the past. More reviews like this requesting them may help our case in getting the condo board to re-consider this choice.

Glad you had a great stay.

Fantastic Vacation! - June 2011

5 of 5
Submitted: July 24, 2011 Stayed: May 2011
I would first like to thank Kirk & Amy for renting their condo to my family and I this June. We had an amazing time! We stayed a total of eight days and really wished it would have been longer! Kirk was extremely helpful during our planning as well as throughout our stay, and was always willing to help provide tips and pointers on everything from dining options to areas of interest. The condo was very clean and well kept, and the beds were perfect for my wife and I and our two daughters(8 & 5) after a full day at the beaches and other day trips.

We really loved the lanai, the views of the water are incredible. Enjoying a cup of local kona coffee while watching the sun come up really gets you in the right mindset for a day at the beaches. On our first day, we made our way to Kekaha Kai early in the morning, we were the first one's on the beach that morning and it made for a great start to our trip. As my oldest daughter and I made our way across the beach, she looked at me and asked, "Dada, is this paradise?", which pretty much say's it all. We ended up spending most of our remaining beach time at Hapuna, which is incredibly beautiful and is also very family friendly, and it's just a short drive up 19, as most of the preferred beaches are.

We really loved the fact that staying at the condo made our trip feel more like we were staying local. The big resorts are nice, but they just don't have the same appeal as a very nicely kept property such as the Sea Village. We loved having the convenience of the full kitchen, washer/dryer, and not the mention the wireless access, it's nice having the option to eat in if your just too tired from the day's activities.

My wife and I try to make it a point to visit different places every year, but we both agreed that after this trip, we will definitely make our way back to Kona soon, and hopefully Kirk's place. The Sea Village is located in a great area just south of the main activity on Alli drive, so you have a lot of options on dining and shopping, and their all within a 10/15 min walk. A strong two thumbs up!

Mahalo Kirk & Amy!

My husband and I stayed for 5 nights in this Condo in May 2010. We loved the whole layout- especially the lanai- a great place to have coffee and breakfast each day. Then we would head out to a beach, or exploring- come back and relax before walking the road to town (about 15 minutes away) for happy hour and dinner ;o)-- (loved Don the Beachcombers!)
We took advantage of the beach chairs and cooler provided each day and loved sitting in the hot tub and watching the sunset in the evenings This was one of the most relaxing vacations we have taken because we just were able to 'chill' and enjoy each day. Even though we only had 5 days, it felt like we were there for more! I will definetly contact Kirk to stay here again next time we go to the Big Island!

Wonderful Condo

My husband and I spent 3 months at this condo. It couldn't have been better. The view was great, the kitchen had everything that was needed. Our 2 grown daughters visited us for 2 weeks and we had plenty of room. If anything was needed, Kirk responded immediately. He called immediately after the tsunami to see how everything was and how we made out. The condo was clean and well-kept. I would definitely recommend it for your stay.

This was my first visit to the Big Island and it is absolutely beautiful. I definitely enjoyed our stay at this condo. The whole property is well maintained. The location is great. It's driving distance or even walking distance to shopping centers, grocery stores, restaurants, and beaches. It is off of Ali’i Drive where I was able to jog every morning and surprisingly, there were a lot of walkers and joggers along the road as early as 6:45am.Since our trip was just for 3nights/4 days, we made the best out of it. We enjoyed the pool and watched the amazing sunset from the oceanfront. We went snorkeling at Kahalu'u which is a few miles south and loved it so much that we went again. We brought our own beach towels but the condo supplies extra beach towels, mats, and chairs so we didn’t have to go buy them. There is also a washer and dryer within the condo which was very convenient. We didn't eat out much since the condo had a fully stocked kitchen so we cooked most of the time. The condo is located on the top floor with an oceanfront view and enjoyed having breakfast on the lanai. You can’t beat that! The residence and the guests are all very friendly. At night, it was quiet and you can relax on the lanai or at the patio and listen to the sound of the ocean hitting against the lava rocks. The place accommodated my family of five (3 adults and 2 children) and we used all the sleeping amenities provided. We managed to rearrange the furniture in the living room to accommodate the Murphy bed and Airbed. The Murphy bed can be hidden away quickly and Airbed deflates easily that we had a lot of room during the day.Kirk (the owner) was very accommodating and available with any questions I had. I already started spreading the word to my friends. I highly recommend this property. This is truly a home away from home.***Mahalo Kirk for sharing such a beautiful place with my family!***
