A Portsmouth Gem...
We are currently staying in this gorgeous little cottage! We were so pleasantly surprised - the location, the decor, the charm! First of all, you are right on the water, with spectacular views and a nice summer breeze. The lawn and yard are immaculate - perfect for morning coffee or evening cocktails. The cottage itself is adorable - plenty of space, great windows for cross-breezes, cozy beach/modern decor, CLEAN. There's a little dining area with huge windows that overlooks the great deck, which overlooks the yard and the Sakonnet River. What a great place to vacation and/or entertain! The kitchen is well stocked and good sized - the owners were sweet enough to leave some water and two cold beers, so welcome after a long drive to get here. There are two bathrooms - both with sink, toilet and showers (one stall shower, one with a tub). We read the last review about the size of the bathrooms. They are totally appropriate to the cottage, which dates to the 1940s - a little small but not limiting at all! Plenty of room to shower comfortably, and cute to boot.
As you can tell, we are very pleased with this place. More touches: great books left for reading, games for kids and adults alike (gotta love the Red Sox/Yankees chess set - when we play, the Sox always win!), beach chairs here to borrow and a book chock full of info about the area. Cute quilts. Comfy beds and futon with plenty of pillows. And a welcome addition to what was listed on the website: 2 window A/C units!
Big thanks to the owner for providing such a special place and making it so easy to handle the business end of the transaction. Hmmm - maybe I shouldn't have written so much about this place. It's the kind of place you want as your secret hideaway...
