Surrounded by fields of sunflowers and wheat in the rolling hills of the unspoiled Val di Chiana, this lovely and recently restored, classic Tuscan country house is located between Siena and Arezzo, three and a half kilometers from the charming medieval hilltop village of Lucignano.

Podere Dadino is a two-story, stone and brick farmhouse, typical of the area. It has been carefully restored, retaining the original elements of brick arches, beamed ceilings, and some interior walls of exposed stone and brick. The spacious and comfortable, main house totals approximately 3500 square feet.

You enter through a covered portico (porch, with outdoor table for eight to ten). Inside, three large arches divide the eat-in kitchen (with antique farmhouse table), the dining room with a table for eight to twelve, and the sunny living room with large open fireplace. On the other side of the kitchen are a bathroom with shower; a study with large antique wooden table/desk and a comfortable daybed; a TV room with access to the garden and pool area; and a laundry room with plenty of storage space.

A stone staircase leads upstairs to the high-ceilinged, airy, sitting room; four bedrooms (two bedrooms, each with a king-size bed, and two bedrooms, each with a queen-size bed); two baths (one with shower, and one very large bathroom with shower and separate jacuzzi tub); and a large walk-in closet.

The house has plenty of space to be 'together' as a family or group of friends - whether at the pool, playing bocce, cooking delicious meals and enjoying them indoors or out, or chatting in the living room. The lay-out also allows for private spaces when you want some time alone - whether working (or dozing) in the study, having a quiet read in the upstairs sitting room, or finding a peaceful spot under the trees.

The attached guesthouse, approximately 430 square feet, has a separate entrance, two bedrooms (each with a queen-size bed), a small bath with shower, and a kitchen-sitting room.

The appliances are new. The kitchens are fully equipped and suitable for gourmet cooking. All mattresses, couches, and armchairs are new, comfortable, and of high quality. The bathrooms have modern fixtures. All windows and doors have mosquito screens. Otherwise, the house has been decorated and furnished in traditional Tuscan country-style, with characteristic colors, fabrics, and carefully chosen antique pieces for an authentic and comfortable Tuscan experience.

Although easily accessible and not remote (it is five kilometers from the A1 motorway exit), no other houses are visible from the house or grounds. A 400-meter (approximately 4000 feet) private, gravel road leads to the house, so the house is well back from the road behind a large field. The house sits on more than 1.75 acres (7000 square meters) of well-manicured private garden and lawns, offering several areas for dining al fresco, entertaining, or relaxing with a book and a glass of wine.

The grounds have been professionally landscaped with lawns, roses, lavender, flowers and shrubs of all sorts, pots of oleander and aromatic flowers set around mature fruit trees (plums, apricots, pears, apples, nuts, and figs), cypress, and shade trees. The garden includes a productive 50 square meter organic vegetable and herb garden with lettuces, heirloom tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, and more. Adorable tiny geckoes sun themselves on the stones.

The covered front portico, with table and chairs for 10, is our guests' (and our) favorite place for breakfast in the morning and dinner in the evening - watching the morning light or the sunset with the hills in the distance.

A wisteria-covered loggia, with traditional outdoor pizza / bread oven, dining table and chairs, is located on the side of the house near the pool, together with a charcoal and wood barbeque for outdoor cooking. The loggia is a perfect, shady spot for lunch! And making your own pizzas is a lot of fun.

The 6 by 12 meter (approximately 18 feet by 36 feet) swimming pool, with outdoor shower, gets full sun throughout the day. A stand of trees makes a shady spot at one end of the pool, next to the full size bocce ball court - for your evening bocce games. At the other end of the pool, a rustic pergola covered with jasmine and wisteria offers another space for outdoor dining or dozing.

The house is great for a group of friends to relax and catch up; for hosting an extended family or two; for celebrating a milestone birthday, a special anniversary, or a family event; or just as a place to experience Tuscany at its best.

The property is perfectly located for exploring southern Tuscany and Umbria, either by main road or country roads. The house is just over the 'border' dividing the provinces of Arezzo and Siena, giving you the two prettiest valleys in Tuscany - the Val di Chiana and the Val d’Orcia (a UNESCO world heritage site). Charming towns, history, art, beautiful scenery, great restaurants, wine, and artisan foods are found in every direction.

Siena is 35 kilometers away, Arezzo 20 kilometers, Cortona 15 kilometers. Montalcino, Montepulciano, Pienza, the Colli Aretini and Colli Senesi wine roads (and wineries), the hot water mineral spas south of Siena, Etruscan archaeological sites, and many other places of interest, including events, festivals, local markets, and the designer outlets are easily reached for day trips. We provide a detailed House Book that offers suggestions and advice on restaurants, shopping, places to visit, things to do, and much more.

Please email with any questions, and check our website. We love the house and the area - and hope you will too.

About victoria belco

We (the owners) live in the USA, and rented houses in Tuscany for 25 years before finding, buying, and furnishing Podere Dadino in 2005 and 2006. In our years of renting other houses, we had many good experiences as well as some that were disappointing, so we knew what we wanted and what makes for a satisfying stay in the Tuscan countryside. We have furnished and decorated the house with care - and always keep it perfectly maintained. Our goal is that you feel at home when you come through the door, and that everything is in place to make your stay both relaxing and memorable. It is our vacation home too - and we are very demanding!

When we are here, we alternate between days of sightseeing and relaxation, swimming and playing bocce, with visits to our favorite restaurants and checking out recommendations of new ones. We cook too, using meats from the famous butchers in nearby Monte San Savino and the freshest vegetables and fruits in season. The traditional pizza oven is a big 'plus.'

We get lots of 'fun' reading done and spend lots of time by the pool. When we had the grounds landscaped, we knew we had to have a bocce court, as we have such warm memories of bocce tournaments with our children and friends in houses we rented in years past. In all, a stay here is the perfect antidote to the rest of the working year.

Our informative House Book describes local restaurants, shopping, events, and places to visit in this beautiful part of Italy. The house itself is stocked with cookbooks, guidebooks, novels and mysteries, dvds and books for all ages.

victoria belco purchased this villa in 2005
Why victoria belco chose Lucignano

The location is ideal: the house and grounds offer privacy, peace and quiet, yet easy distance to the most charming and classic Tuscan towns and sights. This is truly classic Tuscan 'postcard' country: hills and valleys; centuries old cypress trees; winding roads between fields of sunflowers, wheat, olives, and grapevines, leading to medieval and Renaissance villages and spectacular views. It is unspoiled and not flooded with tourists - it is still a place where Italians live and work the land.

It is also the perfect place for developing an idyllic routine of breakfast in the garden, then a drive to explore a nearby town of interest, see the historic and artistic sights and do a bit of shopping, ending just in time to enjoy a leisurely lunch at a terrific trattoria or more elaborate restaurant. Come home for a late afternoon swim, doze by the pool or in the shade, read the book you have wanted to get to, or practice your bocce ball game. Then, over a glass of local wine and some handcrafted cheeses, think about whether to cook dinner with the produce from the garden and what you purchased at the market, maybe make your own pizzas in the outdoor oven, grill some steaks, or to go out for another memorable meal. After dinner, relax some more, maybe with your book, a game of cards, or watching a dvd - or the fireflies - as you sip vin santo and plan your next day.

There is always somewhere new to find and explore: last summer we checked out Umbria and Lake Trasimeno. Our guests are always making great recommendations from their stays - guest have gone fishing, hiking, biking, to the spas, the outlets, archeology sites, and discovered restaurants and festivals we never knew about.

What makes this villa unique

We have a lifelong local man (1 kilometer away) who takes excellent care of the garden and grounds and is available for any repairs or problems. A very efficient young woman oversees the house cleaning and can also provide delicious Tuscan home cooking for your family or group. Guests have raved about her cooking! The swimming pool is professionally cleaned and serviced every week. And finally, our friendly and bilingual (English-Italian) property manager in nearby Florence will make sure all is well.

We answer questions promptly via email - or telephone if you would like to talk in person. We are attentive to any questions, needs, or concerns.

If you want to experience Tuscany and Tuscan food at its best, this is the spot - whether you want to cook at home or try a different restaurant every day. Our garden provides the herbs and vegetables (in season). Our kitchen has modern appliances, granite and stone counters, a big country table, and a comfortable rustic feel. In addition, there is both an outdoor grill (for grilling Tuscany's famous meats) and a traditional, outdoor brick oven for making your own pizzas, with plenty of space for outdoor dining.

A Delightful Tuscany Experience

What a perfect way to explore the Tuscany area! I spent a great deal of time selecting a home that our family would reside in for our vacation. The property is picturesque and maticulouesly maitained. I relished opening the door in the morning and strolling down the long lane. It is exceptionally comfortable.. every area, bed(s) included. The owner passed along a 72 pg. booklet of information on the home, markets, specific "going ons" in surrounding towns which was a Godsend. We elected to have dinner prepared upon our arrival and walked in to a roaring fire that warmed damp travelers and aromas of something delicious to follow. Her meal was absolutely lovely! I would highly recommend this service to anyone as many evenings as one desires.
There is so much to see and do. We could have stayed for a month and not gotten bored. Yet if one is looking for peace and quiet you too would be content listening to the birds chirp. We did not use the pool for it was too early but I can assure you it is a lovely, private area that one could relax by or keep little ones or teenagers happily occupied as w/bocche close by.
Accolades to these owners for presenting accurate information on this property. Once again, I cannot say enough about the way it is maintained, equipped, its comfort as w/the location. It is quite obvious that the owners deeply care that their guests have the best Tuscany experience in true Tuscan style they can provide!!! Many thanks for sharing your lovely home!

A magical two weeks in Tuscany

5 of 5
Submitted: August 23, 2012 Stayed: July 2012
We spent an amazing two weeks in Tuscany, living in this "home" as our base for marvelous day trips, relaxing, entertaining and total enjoyment. The house does not feel like a "rental". It is appointed as a home, with everything from marvelous cookbooks (primarily in English) to a garden where we picked fesh tomatoes and lettuce daily, made a plum tart from plum trees, and drank wine sitting on a porch with comfortable chairs and tables. The location was amazing, just five minutes from primary roads that took you to any destination. It sits between two small towns and it was always a toss up to see which town we would go to when we needed to shop for food or just run to the butcher for a fresh chicken! The photos on this site are good and we found no disappointments in any of the rooms that were photographed. Each bathroom has a shower and the big one upstairs has a huge tub. The house was in excellent condition - very clean, good sheets, excellent and large towels. Plenty of pool towels additionally. The laundry room was outstanding and it was never a chore when we had to do laundry. The pool is well maintained., We had great fun using the pizza oven and I felt like a pro with bubbling yummy crusts. The welcome book prepared from the owner was incredibly helpful and had every question we had already answered - the directions for all the appliances were great -- good shopping and restaurant recommendations. There is a lovely gardener who comes almost daily to take care of the watering and garden and was a pleasure to say hello to daily. There are too many activities and attractions to list -- but there are two great wineries nearby and at least two olive oil farms we went to that were minutes away. We found a new adventure every day and the evenings home were refreshing and relaxing. The screens were absolutely luxurious as we were there in July and it was hot -- with the fans in the bedrooms and the screens we could open up windows at night and always have a breeze. The kitchen is also well appointed with pots, pans and all the basics one needs. I already miss my Italian coffee. We will be back in 2014!

Sunshine and Sunflowers Surround The Perfect Italian Country Home.

Our group had the pleasure of staying at this beautiful country home in July of this year.

This home exceeds the ad. It is well decorated, stays cool in summer and features a perfectly landscaped garden on all sides with a great pool and a bocce ball court, both of which we loved. It has everything you need to spend a week and more. Where the garden ends beautiful countryside begins.

It is very well located, you can reach a number of hill towns such as Lucignano and Cortona with ease. You can reach Sienna, Motepulciano and other areas in Tuscany with ease.

Be sure to pay attention to the owner's guide book, it is full of every shopping and dining tip you will need, every one which was spot on. There are just too many restaurants in the area to try in one week.

The owners were easy to deal with and we are trying to figure out a way to get back soon. This is a five star property and experience. We recommend it without hesitation.

This is one of the nicest vacations I have ever taken. A perfect location, and a beautiful, classic Tuscan farmhouse upgraded in all the best ways. Great kitchen, huge elevated fireplace, beautiful landscaping, great pool, and terrific bocce court. The owners provide a localized guidebook that tells you all the special places in the areas from butchers, to gelato, frescoes, to discount Italian designer clothing stores. Lots of bedrooms, comfortable and nice furniture, indoor/outdoor living - a great way to spend time with friends and family.

Heaven in Tuscany

The pictures cannot do Podere justice, as the Tuscan light and hills surround this beautiful and most comfortable house surrounded by , gardens and rolling fileds. As a family of 10, all adults, with particular demands, we were in heaven. We travel quite often together, and Podere, we all agreed, is now one of our favorite destinations. The kitchen was well outfitted for the many serious cooks among us, and created a comfortable center for the many meals and conversations . The indoor and outdoor dining rooms allowed for ease , variety and many wonderful meals in beautiful settings.
The house is impeccable but not overdone, with very comfortable beds and beautiful fresh white linens.
Situated privately among the gardens and fields, in the most lovely area of Tuscany. And an added treat, is the bocce court, a wonderful way to gather , sip wine, chat and have fun under the fruit trees and setting Tuscan sun after a day of touring the countryside and villages. It is Heaven!

Jasmine Scented heaven

I just spent a week with nine friends at this villa and if you ever get a chance to do the same -- drop everything and do it -- and I mean everthing. The scent of jasmine over the pool, the cypress-studded views, the outdoor pizza oven and bocce court; we ate, we played, we swam -- and yes, the hi-speed wireless works glitch-lessly, but who needs it?
This is a glorious place to stay put and watch the swallows, or from which to set forth on easy day trips to any number of spectacular towns and villages. I couldn't recommend it more highly.

Three Weeks at Podere Dadino

5 of 5
Submitted: September 23, 2011 Stayed: August 2011
Our family of nine spent three glorious weeks at Podere Dadino recently and the reality far exceeded our expectations. From grandparents to a four year old, everyone raved about the facility, the location, the amenities and the patient assistance we received from the owners prior to our arrival. The villa was clean and well equipped and the pool, bocce court and gym provided attractions for all ages. We feasted on the garden fruits and vegetables and enjoyed at-home cooking classes. As the villa is very centrally located , each day involved a trip to a different nearby town for market day.
In short, a fabulous holiday with family - we highly recommend it.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Podere Dadino with 8 of my best girlfriends for a week in July. The property and house exceeded our expectations. It is beautiful, well maintained, private , and very comfortable. The pool is large and perfect for lounging or swimming laps. The vegetable garden provided us with enough produce to make salads for 9 people !We thoroughly enjoyed our stay , and only regretted that we could not stay longer.

The pictures do not do it justice - unforgettable vacation

Submitted: July 11, 2011 Stayed: June 2011
We stayed at the house during our vacation in June. Our family of four stayed in the main house (2 adults 2 teenagers) and my mother and aunt stayed in the guest house. The house, yard and pool are just gorgeous. We had dinner prepared for us at the house the first night which was unbelievably delicious and so nice after a long day of travel. It was a great location, and we fell in love with Lucignano - be sure to stop at our new favorite restaurant on the planet - La Maggiolata. They have the best pici in town! We literally picked vegetables from the garden for dinner. The gardener brought us garlic from his house when I asked about it and he said the ones in the garden were not ready...was sitting by the door with a bow on it when we got back. What a treat to cook meals in the kitchen!! Great spot for day trips - Siena is a must see. Everything was perfect, and we hope to go back someday! Thank you for an unforgettable vacation.

Our group had so much fun at Podere Dadino! In true Tuscan spirit, it is a great gathering place for family and friends. It is centrally located for easy access to many charming towns, gourmet restaurants and wonderful, local wine. The spacious accommodations, rustic kitchen (complete with fresh herb garden), pool/leisure activities, generous library and internet access exceeded our expectations. The relaxing and quiet setting provided us with many memorable moments... We hated to leave!
