Each year I chose a location where close friends and I spend our New Year's vacation. This was our fifth year (I believe). We are mostly New York City folk so we try to keep the destination relatively accessible for the majority of the group, while also being far enough away so that we can leave our day to day stresses behind. This lovely house definitely met those criteria.
Here, one can escape the tumult of the city's traffic, trucks, and trains. On a clear night, you can spot an infinite number of stars in the sky, since there are no tall buildings blocking the horizon, nor overpowering streetlights dimming them to the naked eye.
The rooms are cozy and decorated by the owning family. The house is not an uninspiring hotel room; a family had thrived under this roof and they left their markings and character throughout the household.
It is easy to sit back and take a breather in this home. I quickly forgot about the stresses and worries which I happily left at home. I can see that the same is true for the friends that I had spent this holiday with.
Further, this home is a great destination for those who love the great outdoors. Hunter Mountain is less than a half hour away, and Windham is just a little further. There are hiking trails only ten minutes away, and there are countless number of places to hike within the region. For those who love mountains, or winter sports this destination if fantastic.

WONDERFUL HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!

This house is magnificent. It was an absolute pleasure to be staying here. It is beautifully updated, pristene, and meticulous: the cleanest house we have ever rented! We, (my husband, teenage daughter, and very small dog) all felt so welcomed. The grounds are so beautiful, which gives a feeling of such serenity. We saw three deer while having our morning coffee. We recommend this house to all!!

We rented this house for 5 couples to get away for a long weekend in Feb and it had everything we needed! Accommodations to sleep 10, fully stocked everything, clean, modern finish with a warm and country feel, fireplace to sit in front of, located near skiing, hiking, and minutes from Woodstock. This house really felt homey and we really enjoyed staying in your shady home.

Wonderful Woodstock Retreat

We loved our stay at the Shady Home. It has all the facilities/amenities of one's home. It is beautifully located in the woods with 100% privacy and has a wonderful pool. The house is immaculate, it is very well maintained and is very modern. The owner and manager provide outstanding customer service. I highly recommend this place to ALL! I know we will be coming back here again very soon! Thank you for sharing your home with us.

I utilized this Shady home to have some friends up for my wife's 30th and every guest was wildly impressed. The pictures don't do this beautifully remodeled home. The bathrooms were exceptionally clean. The kitchen was a perfect gathering area. The heated pool was the best. I will definitely recommend this home to all my friends looking for a nice country get away!
Oh yeah, let me not forget Frances the owner and Debbie who made sure I had everything I needed, they are truly special people!
