DEBRA

Bob and Gail, Tim and I have enjoyed staying @ RBC twice, one in the summer and then in the winter. We loved it and plan a late winter get away in Feb. Quiet in not the word for your place. We have escaped to a piece of heaven on earth. Your care of us far passes any name resort. All you have put into your place is amazing. Sharing it with others and giving of your self expression by the details in the cabin shows both of your's great character. Gracious hosts - personal touches to make our stay so wonderful. The birthday cake for me was so caring. Can't wait to see you soon. Just love it @ RBC.

We had a lovely vacation in this cabin last fall and are looking forward to returning n the near future. The cabin is beautiful, secluded, clean, and wonderfully decorated. The property surrounding the cabin is perfect for relaxing or walking; we saw wild turkeys in a field and a deer in the yard. The pond woul be perfct for swimming in the summer. We arrived to wonderful baking bread and had plenty of breakfast and yummy chocolates for our stay. Bob and Gail were very hospitable and nice, friendly people--they let us look at a nearby property the are building that is going to be a beautiful place as well. I would highly recommend this cabin and look forward ro a future stay!

Our Search is Over!

If ever a place more than lived up to its promise, Rocky Bottom Cabin is that place! We drove down Redbud Lane holding our breath, exchanging looks of anticipation tinged with trepidation. Would it be as promised? When the cabin came into sight, we both released our pent breath with a gasp and a laugh – it was perfect!! The fields, the stream, the pond, the hill rising up behind the cabin, the cabin itself -- all was more beautiful than the pictures had promised!

I was fairly bouncing in my seat as we crossed the bridge and pulled up behind the cabin and I squealed with delight when I saw the back deck; I knew we would be spending a lot of time out there! The squeals and laughs continued as we made our way into the cabin. Again, it was perfect!! We made our way through the two rooms with constant cries of “Oh, look!” and “Oh, my!” and “I love it!!”. No need to describe it, the pictures you’ve seen do that for me. Just know they don’t do it justice. It is cozy and interesting and beautiful. And the smell of freshly baked bread wafting up from downstairs seems so……right!

We went back to the car to get our pups and –here’s the best part – we opened the door and LET THEM OUT! No leashes, no concerns. They spent the entire week (except when we were off sightseeing at near-by attractions) running free and loving it. When we weren’t hiking the hills or splashing in the stream or tramping through the fields with them, it was easy to keep an eye on them as we sat on the front porch or the back deck or down by the fire pit and watched them explore. Needless to say, they slept very well every night!

Bob was the consummate host, checking to make sure we had what we needed, giving tips about local places to see and eat and sharing with us his history about the land. He always had a story and it was always amusing and entertaining!

Got to put in a short thanks to the guys at Blue Ridge Distillery. They were just delightful!

So, our stay was perfect! Mother Nature graced us with gorgeous weather and colors, and she even threw in a lovely thunderstorm we got to enjoy from the front porch. Oh, the turkeys and deer did put in several appearances for us. (I think that was our Jack Russell’s favorite part of the trip!) Never has a week gone by so quickly and rarely have I packed to return home with a heavier heart.

Bob and Gail, thank you so much for a lovely time. We’ll see you next year!!

This cabin was exactly what we were hoping for on our honeymoon. We needed something quiet and secluded and all our expectations were met and then some. From the privacy to the homemade loaf of bread, everything was beautiful. We were blessed with about 12 inches of snow during our weekend stay and couldn't have picked a better weekend to get married. RBC was absolutely perfect. Oh and love and I mean love the tub!!!

Getaway...

What a treat to spend a few nights "away from it all". The cabin is cozy, comfortable and spotless clean. I tend to be a little "quirky" about where I lay my head, but the bed was wonderful...so comfortable.
Hope to see you guys again soon. Thank you for the rest and hospitality. Truly a little bit of heaven.

The Perfect Place

Dear Bob and Gail,

Once again you have provided for us that which we needed so desperately. That perfect place to get away from the pressures and demands of the world and reconnect ourselves with the simple joys of living and enjoying each other's company. We give you the credit for this effect because with every detail of the rocky bottom cabin, we recognize your sincere desire that it be a retreat, a haven, something special and beautiful. I am always so impressed with the flair that Gail has for creating the mood of the cabin. Each little antique and curio, so interesting in and of itself is woven together into a motif that would suggest extensive training in decorating, rather than just a remarkable natural ability. I often find humor in the way Bob is never satisfied, constantly changing, inventing, tweeking, improving the features of the cabin and grounds so that each visit is a new adventure.

The experience of staying at the cabin is worth twice the price, but that which we value most is the friendship we have developed with you guys over the years. We love visiting with you and catching up, sitting on the back deck talking about good old days.

Thanks again for creating such a great place to kick back. We look forward to seeing you again and again.

Love,
Ralph & Lynda

My husband and I stayed at RBC in early December. The photos don't do it justice. The place is charming, as are the host and hostess. They showed us around and then left us alone, unless we had questions. The area is historical and beautiful even in winter. The bed is beyond comfortable. The decor is home-like and tasteful. We could only stay for a long weekend but we're definitely planning a return trip in the spring!

What a great way to end a decade ... and start a new one! Thanks so much for giving us the opportunity to enjoy the RBC. It was most certainly a break from the stress of the outside world.

During our stay, I have taken the time to read every entry in the RBC Guest Books. I don't know that I can offer any additional thoughts. Just know that we have had our expectations exceeded significantly.

Thanks for your hospitality. We look forward to a return trip when it's a bit warmer.

Take care and have a great 2010!

Disappointed

Reading the description gave the impression the property we rented was on 28 acres and in actuality the nearest house was only about an acre away. Since they had farm animals, it wasn't ideal for our dogs to run which was one of our main reasons for selecting property. Also we were told we could have late check out and then got a call at 9:30am saying we needed to be out by 11am.

The cabin is cute and clean, the food provided including homemade bread was nice so it may be right for some folks, but not if you are looking for total privacy and a place for your animals to run free.
Owner's Response: After 12 years and over 500 bookings of very satisfied customers, Gail and I were surprised to say the least about these comments … this is a first for us.

We have no neighbors that are visible our audible from our property and the cabin … the neighbor to our Northeast has a home that is ¼ mile away and is not visible or audible … he has a fence line that is on our Northern boundary that is 1/8 of a mile away and past the fence and tree line are two small barns. Occasionally has his goats in that fenced in area for grazing … again not visible or audible from our cabin do to a thick line of trees the length of that property line …

When we arrived to greet our clients, their pups were frolicking in the pond and the creek and having a great time … and all seemed happy with the pups and our clients, as far as we new for the entire stay ... .

We always let our clients know the approximate boundaries of our property and encourage the use of it all …Had the pups been instructed by their owners to stay on our property, there would have been no issues … and our neighbor politely asked them to do keep the pups on our property … 28 gorgeous acres … all very private, secluded and quiet.

We have the most client driven policies in the industry … we have flexible arrival and departures as is possible, no security deposits, pet friendly, and more.

Obviously flexible arrival and departure are affected by bookings for clients that are leaving and departing on days that are booked by others …

We inform all of our clients that these arrival and departure times can change if a new booking occurs … in this case, we received a booking the night before their departure date at about 9:45 pm for an arrival the next day … we require a 4 hour window for cleaning … as we manage nine other properties within a few miles of Rocky Bottom Cabin … which means that checkout now has to occur at 11am which is our advertized checkout time. We agreed to and encouraged their early arrival and only the late departure had to be changed because of the new booking arriving on their departure date.

We made the call to our guests and informed them of the new booking and that there departure time would unfortunately have to be the normal 11am time …

We are disappointed that their stay included these two issues, and we hope that folks will understand our position on the issues.

Bob and Gail
