Beautiful and serene setting

RBP Colorado
Review Submitted: August 24, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
The house was just as described, beautiful and in a lovely setting. The porch around the entire house allowed quiet mornings and wonderful evening stargazing. The kitchen was well appointed and provided all that was needed.

There are of course so many things to do in the area, our days were busy and the nights quiet.

I Would highly recommend.

Wonderful vacation house

Review Submitted: August 1, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
Our family of four (mom, dad, two older teens) stayed a week in this beautiful home. Our experience was wonderful. The house is comfortable, roomy, and extremely private, with great views from both long decks that run along two full sides of the cabin. It was also spotlessly clean (even the garage floor).

The access road is gravel with no outlet at the far end, which keeps traffic down to only those living that way. The road is fairly well maintained but has some potholes so keep your speed down. Our minivan handled the road just fine.

Days were warm and evenings cool (we were there in July, but at nearly 6000 feet we didn't wish for air conditioning at all). We got a mountain thunderstorm with hail rattling off the deck roof, and nights of clear skies full of stars (though the lights of Rapid City are noticable to the northeast). Everything in the Black Hills is nearby. Custer State Park is just a few minutes away and we visited it nearly every day (very cool place). Even our trip to Devil's Tower in Wyoming took only a day (2.5-3 hours each way) and was well worth the drive.

We saw deer in the yard every morning and evening, and a whole variety of smaller critters too. Uphill from us (right out the kitchen and bedroom windows) there was a high pasture with two horses grazing.

The basement floor can be cold (it's smooth concrete) but the little heater in the generously-sized downstair's bathroom is more than adequate for warming the room for showers. The master bedroom is comfortable, with it's own bathroom (with roomy, step-in shower) and private door to the deck. The kitchen is well-supplied and very modern. The beds had good quality pillowtop mattresses. We were even given access to use the attached garage, which is a first for a house rental for us.

All in all, we would highly recommend this vacation house to anyone. it's everything it's advertised to be, and more. If anything, the pictures on this website fail to give a true idea of how nice it really is. The owners are good to work with and were prompt to return our deposit.

This rental is very much a winner and we say that from experience. We've been renting vacation homes for many years now, in North Carolina, upper and lower Michigan, Colorado, Indiana and elsewhere, and this is one of the best we've had. Thanks to our hosts for a wonderful stay.

Great Get-a-way!!

This was a perfect retreat for my family & I during our stay in Custer. The cabin was very suitable for all members of my family (my husband & I traveleved with my 1 & 4 year old boys & my parents). Plenty of room for us all and very clean & comfortable!! The views from the porch were phenominal! Perfect for coffee in the morning and drinks in the evening! Couldn't ask for more!! Location was perfect for us...out of the way of "touristy traps", yet close enough to enjoy Custer State Park, Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Rapid City. Also some great fly fishing spots very close by for my husband. He was able to go out fishing early in the morning and join the family by early lunch time for some family outings. The drive into Custer from the cabin is just a few minutes. Custer has a couple of grocery stores, some great restaurants and quaint shops (recommend Azuki Bean, Custer Candy Store & A Walk in the Woods). My family and I had a wonderful vacation. We would most definitely stay at the cabin again and would highly recommend it to anyone traveling to the Black Hills! Hope to get back there next year!

Relaxing Retreat

KC - Lenexa Lenexa, KS
Review Submitted: July 19, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
We thoroughly enjoyed this log cabin in the woods. It was a great relaxing location to return home to after our many day trips. We were within a short drive to many attractions and visited Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park, Wind Cave, the water park on 16 Hwy, among others. We especially enjoyed Bear Country, panning for gold in Keystone and an early morning drive on the wildlife trail at Custer State Park. We also took a couple of nice hikes right out the cabin's back door. There's a view of Crazy Horse if you hike to the top of the ridge behind the cabin. Cabin was very clean and well stocked with necessities. Great deck for relaxing evenings. We had two families and 4 teenagers. The teens all stayed in the basement and had their own area with TV, bathroom, and foosball table. We used upstairs loft as 2nd bedroom for the adults and it worked out great. We would definitely rent this place again.

Great vacation spot!

This was our first experience traveling with friends, and their first experience with cabin rentals, and we couldn't have had a better time! The cabin has all the amenities that one would expect for the price, and it was clean and very, very private!

This being a new construction, everything was pristine: leather furniture, high end appliances, comfortable beds, and an amazing deck!

Our only constructive criticism might be that the upstair master bedroom is beautiful, as is the rest of the first floor, but the other bedrooms are in the basement, and although very nice, the steps to the basement are simply painted wood and the basement floor itself is concrete...so there seems to be a contrast in the two sleeping quarters. If carpet were put on the stairs and the basement floor, I think it would make a major difference in the overall quality of the downstairs, and one couple wouldn't FEEL like they were in a basement, but simply on another level of the home. Also, the noise level would not be so pronounced as it is with the stairs not being carpeted. This is a minor issue, and we would not hesitate to rent this cabin again. As a matter of fact, we are planning on it for next year!

Great Cabin Near Many Sights.

Colorado Visitors Johnstown, CO
Review Submitted: July 29, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
This cabin is just outside of Custer. Driving distance to Crazy Horse, Cosmos, Mt. Rushmore, Hill City (1880 Train), and Custer State Park was less than 30 minutes.
Cabin had many ammenities including flat screen TV, VCR, DVD, Satellite TV, small movie selection, many board games, foosball table, BBQ Grill and binoculars to enjoy the wildlife that frequented the entire area. We were visited by numerous deer and chipmunks during our stay.
We only missed a few of our comforts... i.e. ironing board & iron, internet access.
Kitchen area was well stocked with basic needs... pots/pans, spices, coffee, dishwasher...although no garbage disposer.
I would definitely recommend this retreat again.
We had a GREAT time!
