50th Anniversary Reunion at Rocky Hollow Lodge

Jay and Teri Crestview, Florida
Review Submitted: January 3, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2008
Our family had a wonderful 50th Anniversary party for my parents at Rocky Hollow Lodge. We reserved the main lodge for the party and immediate siblings, while others in our family stayed in the smaller cabins. We loved the rustic Native American charm, yet all modern amenities were available. Our hosts were gracious enough to set up a Christmas tree with gold decorations to fit our golden anniversary theme. We were allowed to decorate the lodge as we wished, which enabled our parents to come over from Lakeview to enjoy the festivities without the whole family invading their home! Each night, we enjoyed gathering around the big bonfire, and tiki torches lined the paths to every cabin. Customer service was excellent! In the morning, we set our basket of towels out front and in the afternoon, clean linens were waiting for us.Our hosts even took pictures for us! The kitchens were well-stocked with tableware and cookware. We were able to prepare all the food we needed. Our two-year-old grandson was entertained on the playground which was centered among the cabins - very easy for us to all keep an eye on him. Overall, our stay was wonderful. We would recommend Rocky Hollow Lodge for your stay. We were there during the week after Christmas and only for the specific reason of celebrating an anniversary. I could see how this property would be fantastic during the warmer seasons also, especially for people wanting a homey atmosphere while enjoying vacationing in the Bull Shoals Reservoir area. It's very close to groceries and shopping in the quaint town of Bull Shoals (within walking distance). Thank you Robert and Patricia for a great time!
Owner's Response: Thank you Jay & Teri for this fantastic review of our little resort here in Bull Shoals!

The best part of our job is seeing parents, grandparents, and great grandparents share quality time together with the next generation of toddlers. It is obvious the love you all have for eachother and a blessing to be part of.

We are thankful to have been part of your parents 50th Wedding Anniversary celebration. Everyone was so polite and gracious towards us, as if we were your guests! And the cabins and lodge were left in perfect condition!

Your review means more to us than we can express, personally and professionally. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience here at Homeaway!

An Excellent Retreat

My husband and I needed a place to go that we could completely relax and allow me to do some soul searching. I had just lost my brother unexpectly and needed to just get away to allow myself to except this. Rocky Hollow was exactly what I needed. It was so quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed walking with our dogs and watching the deer and other wildlife. Our cabin was so clean it was amazing. I don't know that we have ever stayed any place that we felt so comfortable. We will definitely be back.

This was our second trip to Rocky Hollow Lodge and this time was just as great as the last! Robert and Patti work relentlessly to make all of their guests feel welcome! They keep their grounds in beautiful condition too! It is a perfect place for a relaxing getaway where you can just kick back and lounge around or go down to the beautiful lake just a short walk away. My three year old child loves to run around on the playground and spent hours outside playing. The way it is designed is fantastic for kids. We plan to go back next year as well. Thanks for the wonderful week again!

Rocky Hollow is a great place if you would like a very clean, quaint and cozy cabin on Bull Shoals Lake. We've been here before, and reserved again for next year before we left.

My husband works endless hours for the government. His only time to rest is our yearly vacation in Bull Shoals. He loves it because of the lake and river fishing, my kids love it for the playground, the pool and the swim dock on lake. I love it because the cabins are so cute, and in great shape for being 50 yrs old. They are rustic, but always meticulously clean, as are the grounds.

There are no cigarette butts anywhere (how do they keep it that clean? They must have spent months if not years picking them all up) and the grass is always neatly trimmed. The planters have real flowers in them, which is also new since the new owners.

Rob and Patty are also landscape and tree specialists. She is a horticulturist and he is an arborist, so the property is becoming a nursery of many species of shrubs, trees and perennials bloomers, scattered in orderly chaos throughout the property.

You can really see the work they have put into the lodge, it is like a park, and the cabins are like little gingerbread houses. It really is beautiful. We are hoping to get a Christmas Holiday there, but it is booked two years in advance already!

We originally came for summer fun, but spring and fall have their great advantages, too. We've come to the lake many times, but since we found Rocky Hollow we don't go anywhere else.

These are our fourth owners in about ten years that we've been coming here. The last owners were really friendly, but the new owners are a young couple that really enjoys working on the lodge.

They have made it like their own home, and welcome everyone as personal friends. The Sunset Ceremony on our last night was the perfect ending to a perfect week. We are so happy to meet Patty and Robert because we know they will be there when we return.

A PLACE TO RELAX AND BE YOURSELF

A place to relax Wichita, Kansas
Review Submitted: July 27, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
My wife Amy, our daughter Kynleigh and myself (Ken) arrived at Rocky Hollow Lodge on Thursday July 23, 2009. It was a Beautiful afternoon. As we pulled into the driveway Patti (our hostess and co-owner) was walking up to us she was all smiles and said, "you must be the Hou _ _ _"! As we smiled back she informed us of where our cabin was and she would be down there in a minute. As we got out of the car, Kynleigh our 19 month old was all about the kids area filled with toddler swimming pools, life size doll houses and lots of kids and parents just sitting around enjoying the fresh air.
We unloaded into cabin 4 and found it to be VERY VERY clean, and maintained. We took Kynleigh out to play on the swings and slides and before we could even get there the other kids were coming over and acting like they knew us for years.

Being at the Hollow for only a few days was wonderful, we only wished that we would of had more time to stay and this is also why we are planning on going back this fall or early 2010.
On another day we had time to speak with Robert and Patti. If you get time and want to hear a story of survival and how God makes things happen for a reason then you need to listen to them. These two define how to be free, in love and happy. Its contagious if you stay here very long!!!

Thanks Robert & Patti, we hope you never change who you are because truly you two are what makes Rocky Hollow so special!!!!

Thanks again

Ken, Amy & Kynleigh

Rocky Hollow - Great Time

Review Submitted: June 30, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
Our family just returned from a week stay at Rocky Hollow. We stayed in the main lodge. The accommodations were actually better than we expected. We met some friends from Ohio. We had a total of 8 staying in the lodge. 4 adults and 4 children ages 6,6,3 and 2. There was ample room for sleeping, living and cooking. The lodge was clean and cool. The only negative of the trip was the recent heat wave that hit the central region of the country, so Bull Shoals received some unseasonably hot weather during our week stay. The lodge was nice and cool all day when we wanted to get out of the heat. As far as the lake, I have spent time on many lakes across the country, and Bull Shoals was by far the best body of water I have ever experienced. Absolutely no chop on the water, no boat traffic, clean, clear and cool. The White River just a few miles away has some of the best trout fishing in the country. I would defiantly recommend Rocky Hollow for any group or family who is looking for a quiet relaxing lake vacation. The only negative about the property is walking to the boat dock on the property is quite treacherous for small children. You are in the mountains so there is no real easy way to get to the water. We elected to store our boat at Bull Shoals Boat Dock, where you can store you boat on the water in a covered slip for $10/day. It was a great value, and the marina is only a few blocks away. Robert and Patty were AWESOME hosts, and were available to accommodate any of our needs. We're booking the lodge again for next summer.

The cabins are cool, comfortable, and clean. A campfire, a cold beer (BYOB), and a good conversation awaits in the commons area nearly all hours of the day. A 90 second walk down behind the main lodging area lands you at a boat dock that looks out from the cove of a crystal clear, 200 (or so) foot lake. My stay there pretty much consisted of sizzling barbecue, frosty beer, and the submergence of my body into the cucumber cool looking glass water of Bull Shoals Lake. Relax.

For our annual family summer trip we usually venture to the mountains in Colorado. But this summer, my wonderful in-laws grew a wild hair and decided to try somewhere new. Boy, am I glad they did!

Our stay at Rocky Hollow Lodge was the best! Patty and Robert were very accomodating for our family. We rented the Main Lodge and Cabin 5 to fit all 14 of us (and our spoiled mut) and the stay was very relaxing and enjoyable. The cabins were clean and spacious, and suitable for families or couples wanting a relaxing getaway.

As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by all of the staff, and they got right to work filling up the kiddie pools and making sure the cabins were clean and to our liking. They took time to make sure that we felt at home.

The grounds and location of the property are unbeatable! It is a short walk down to the lake where everyone can swim and fish, picnic, or read a book. We rented a houseboat from the local boat dock, and it was very convenient to park our rental at the Lodge's private dock.

Since we had our dog, we also were able to take him on a nice walk around the neighborhood each day. We felt safe venturing off the property, and it was easy to navigate our way back.

There is a grocery store (Harp's) right by the RH Lodge, and a great pizza place (Bush's Pizza), breakfast diner (Connie's) and convenient liquor store near by as well.

The kids were able to play to their heart's content, which kept the rest of the family relaxed and happy as well.

On the last night, Patty and Robert treated us to an Indian Sunset Ceremony where we were able to unite as a family and give the children the opportunity to appreciate another culture. It was a great way to spend our last night at Rocky Hollow.

I cannot give enough praises for this property. I would recommend for any family or group to stay here. The main lodge was beautiful, clean, and spacious. The front porch to the lodge was a great place to relax and catch up with your loved ones. It sleeps 10 comfortably, and the kitchen was very spacious. Cabin 5 had 2 rooms that could sleep 4, and a pullout couch in the living room.

If you're looking for a rustic family retreat in a relaxing atmopshere that is kid friendly, this is the perfect spot. You won't find nicer owners who really care about their customers. They will bend over backwards to make sure your stay is nothing short of perfect. Thank you Robert & Patty! Denise & Matthew Thornton

A Place for Family

We still cannot believe how wonderful it is at Rocky Hollow! Our family of 14 had so much fun communing with each other on the shores of Bull Shoals Lake in the cutest little cabins owned and maintained by two very accommodating people and their crew. Waking up to the songs of orioles, bluejays, Eastern bluebirds, cardinals, red-headed woodpeckers, and a myriad of other winged creatures made the start of each day a peaceful one. Our grandkids loved watching the squirrels and chipmunks chase each other in and out of the garden. The hummingbirds decorated the beautiful flowers that surround the main lodge. Bull Shoals Lake, just a short walk from the cabins, provided us with clear, clean waters where every member of our family found something fun and relaxing to do. Swimming, boating, fishing, sunbathing, collecting rocks, throwing horseshoes, or just reading a book along the shoreline kept us busy all week. At night, we sat by the fire and talked about the day's events while cooking in our Dutch ovens or making s'mores for the kids. Even though the pool was out of commission, the owners provided the kids with so many water toys and kiddie pools that they never even asked about the in-ground pool at all. On our last night, our family was blessed with an opportunity to take part in a Native American sunset ceremony, which gave us a time to express our heartfelt thanks to our hosts and each other for an incredible week together. We just hope that other families find a way to re-discover each other at Rocky Hollow Lodge. They'll be glad they did.
