An absolutely lovely holiday home
We have stayed in countless holiday rental houses over the years - in the US, europe and the UK - and we have high standards and know what we like and we absolutely loved this house! It cast a gentle spell over us from the beginning. Lisa has decorated it beautifully in soft, clear sea-tones which make it feel refreshing even in great heat. The house is stylish but unpretentious. It feels like a real home (which it is) but was neutral enough for us to pretend that it was ours for a week!
Lisa is a great person to deal with, open, friendly, reliable and happy to offer help if needed.
The house is a two minute walk from the lovely Front Beach which has cold, clear water (like mercury on a still day), a sandy beach and a raft in the bay to dive off or lounge on. I loved swimming early in the morning and returning for breakfast in the garden and also in the early evening as the sun went down.
Rockport is sweet and atmospheric despite all the tourists. Highly recommend wandering round the cemetery behind front beach - all the first settlers are buried there and it gives a real sense of the personal history of this little town. We had an amazing and unforgettable whale watching trip from Gloucester (about $40 each and worth every penny) when we saw 30 humpback whales feeding and frolicking. We also did a day trip to Concord which is absolutely beautiful and fascinating (L M Alcott, Emerson, Thoreau). But otherwise we just read, swam, strolled, ate and drank (note: no wine sold in Rockport, stock up in Gloucester!). Bliss!!!!
Top tip: the Market Basket just out of Gloucester on Route 28 sells lobsters for $4.99. Order them and they cook them on the spot and you pick them up twenty minutes later.
We highly recommend this house and would love to return. Thanks Lisa!
