Photos and Description of the Boothbay Harbor vacation house rental
3-4 bedrooms, 3 full baths, sleeps 6-8 (summer rates based on 6)

Experience all that Summer in Maine offers! New Boothbay Peninsula custom cape with Sheepscot River frontage, fifteen minutes from Boothbay Harbor, Wiscasset (prettiest village in Maine) and Damariscotta. House offers a wood burning fireplace, hardwood floors, granite kitchen counters and ceramic tiled baths. Area offers fine restaurants and beaches, great kayaking, and numerous whale watching, deep sea fishing and sight seeing excursion boats. Visit the renowned Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, or go antique hunting. Watch lobster boats haul traps in front of the property, or launch your kayak from the Association dock a short walk from the house and explore the Sheepscot.

Modern Luxury: This custom cape was built in the fall of 2006. As you enter the large foyer, to the left through French doors is the kitchen, dining and living area that opens to the spacious 14' x 22' deck. Right of the foyer is a large laundry room, and then a self contained bedroom / bath suite. Upstairs is the master bedroom/bath suite, a small bedroom and a third large bedroom/bath suite. Floor plans available.

Solitude Yet Close To Town: The house is accessed via either Mill Rd ( from Route 27) or Cross Point Rd (from Route 1), which are idyllic country roads with water vistas. The house sits on a 2 acre lot. No highway noise can be heard, and at night no lights are visible from the opposite shore. Peace and quiet are the norm at the house, yet it is only 15 minutes to Boothbay Harbor, Damariscotta or Wiscasset.

Designed To Please: The house design allows each of the 3 large bedrooms to be isolated from the rest of the house, with each having a private bathroom. Accordingly, the house is ideal for an extended family or 3 independent couples vacationing together. Multiple users can access the wireless Internet service simultaneously via laptops. Additional photos available on request.

About Joseph Walsh

Joe first came to the Boothbay during his high school and college years, spending the summers of 1967-72 working at Burleigh Hill, a boys' sailing camp owned and operated by Joe's junior high school gym teacher and coach, Lester Rhoads. Burleigh Hill operated as a camp from 1955 to 1975, and was also a registered yacht club that each summer competed against other local yacht clubs. After the camp ceased operations, Joe continued to vacation at the former camp property with his family (wife Marian and sons Colin and Pete) as a guest of the owner until the owner's death in 2000. In 2004, Joe and Marian purchased the Quarry Farm property that is about 4 miles away from Burleigh Hill and built the house in 2006. Joe and Marian live in upstate New York, where they practice law together with one other partner.

Joseph Walsh purchased this house in 2006
Why Joseph Walsh chose Boothbay Harbor

Joe has been associated with Boothbay since 1967 and has spent at least a part of each summer since then in the region. Joe introduced Marian to the region in 1985. When the former Burleigh Hill property was sold by the heir of Lester Rhoads in 2001, Joe and Marian continued to vacation in the region for several years, and then decided to buy their own property. Joe and Marian and the boys first viewed the Quarry Farm property on a bitterly cold January day, but everyone immediately said 'this is it'. Over the fireplace mantel, the Burleigh Hill Yacht Club Burgee continues to fly!

What makes this house unique

Some of the major factors that attracted the family to this property are its proximity to the major population centers of Boothbay Harbor, Wiscasset and Damariscotta, and yet the house enjoys an incredibly peaceful, quiet and idyllic setting overlooking the Sheepscot River with almost 180 degree views up and down the river from the property. At night, there are no lights to be seen across the river, as the opposite shore remains largely undeveloped. The night sky, with little ambient light, highlights the stars. The two roads that access the property from either Route 1 or Route 27 can also be truly described as scenic; the Mill Road winds and turns and offers views of river coves at two points, while the Cross Point Road runs along the Sheepscot River for most of its length. A stay at the property thus allows each day to begin and end in a very private and peaceful way, yet the day itself can be spent enjoying the many things to do and see in Mid Coast Maine.

Immmaculate Way Beyond Expectations

This house is immaculate way beyond expectations. Owners have obviously lavished it with care. The linens, towels, and bedding were of good quality. Dishes, glassware and flatware were of excellent quality. The appliances were top of the line. The only negatives I would mention are the lack of ceiling fans, and no reading lamps or nightstands by the beds. We purchased a fan, large mixing bowl, potato peeler, and small lamps at the nearest Wal Mart. For those with the room in their vehicle, a crock pot would be nice. If you went on a trip each day, your meal would be ready when you return in the evening. Restaurants in the area we particularly enjoyed were Sarah's, Reds Eats, and Treats (excellent chicken pies that are available for take out along with soups, sandwiches, etc.) all in Wiscasset. We did not enjoy Bintliffs. In Bath, we particularly liked J.R. Maxwells on the main shopping street downtown. The owners were concerned about making the house comfortable and we would recommend it to anyone wanting a quiet and beautiful vacation spot. Members of our party enjoyed Kayaking, Whale Watches, Botanical Gardens, Outlet Shopping, the many Lobster Pounds in the area and visiting Acadia National Park. The locals were extremely friendly and helpful.

Owner's Response: Owner will provide window fans for future guests, though generally evening temperatures quickly drop to comfortable levels, and house has over 50 large windows for ventilation. Night stands and additional lamps will be added in the near future (looking for suitable antique or custom made tables).

A Beautiful Comfortable Home in a Scenic Area

The home was spotless with excellent appliances and an extensive supply of dishes, china and utensils. There was an abundant supply of towels and bedding. Shortly after arriving, I was contacted by telephone by the local housekeeper and by email from the owner to ensure everything was in order.

The wide array of pictures supplied very accurately depict the home. The owner was extremely helpful and readily communicated with me on any questions I had. My security deposit was returned in less than one week. The state beach parks described in the owner's overview of the surrouning area afforded magnificent views of the ocean and had convenient facilities.

We found shop owners, people on the street and restaurant personnel very friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed a relaxing and memorable vacation in this beautiful area.

Immaculate home with a great well stocked kitchen, makes you want to do a kitchen remodel when you get home. Good communciation with owner, who also provided many addtional pictures so you know exactly what you are getting. I thought it was clear, but my significant other misunderstood, the dock is shared and several houses down the road - but no issue. Excellent jump off point for many wonderful day trips...beaches, antiquing, museums, botanical garden, etc. Many seafood options in all directions, and with the aforementioned kitchen it makes a great combo.

Would definately recommend.
Owner's Response: Thanks for pointing out there may be some confusion about the "Common" Dock in our listing. We do send additional literature to prospective renters that explains we do not have a private dock yet on our lot, and our rental agreement points out that our guests have the right to use the dock that belongs to the homeowners' association subject to the HOA rules and regulations that are made part of the agreement. Our lot has 220 feet of deep water frontage, but we are still probably several years away from installing our own private dock. We will try to make this clearer in the future!

Beautiful Family Vacation

Our family had a lovely time in Maine. Loved the home away from home feel with all the amenities. We enjoyed the sights in Boothbay and neighboring harbors, but one of the favorite memories is enjoying morning coffee on the deck watching our daughters catching butterflies. Thank you for sharing your home with us!

The home was spacious yet cozy, clean with great views of the surrounding nature. The owners take great care in preparing visitors of what to do and see in the area. Edgecomb is close to both Wiscasset and Boothbay, with easy day trips to other beautiful areas of Maine. You will love it here. We returned to the area after visiting ten years ago and our stay here made it even more memorable. We will definitely be back!

The house was exactly as described. Very well maintained and furnished. Community is very quiet and relaxing but close to downtown Boothbay and Wiscasset. This is a great house for family gatherings or with friends. There're plenty of activities for everyone. We made day trips to Acadia Nat'l park, Bar Harbor and the Maine coast and chartered a boat for the afternoon in Boothbay.

A beautiful new home, fully and tastefully decorated, has everything you and your friends/family might need during your vacation. Beautiful views of the Damisricotta
River. Close to Boothbay Harbor, our favorite place to go for dining and shopping.
A must see is the Botanical Gardens, even if your not a garden enthusiast! A short drive to Camden and other towns. The highlight is buying live lobsters at the co-op
in Boothbay. Bring them home, have someone else plunge them in boiling water,
cook some corn on the cob and maybe a salad...nothing better!! We sat out on the large deck, overlooking the river. Ate,drank and enjoyed the tranquility of this lovely home.
Communication with the owner was excellent. Everything went as planned with making the arrangements. We do hope to return again in the near future!
Owner's Response: Just a geographical clarification- our house is on the Sheepscot River, which is on the west side of the Boothbay Peninsula. The Damariscotta River runs along the east side of the peninsula.

The house is exactly as the description states and more. The house was clean and well maintained, the kitchen is amazing and houses every utensil, pot, pan or serving item you need! I am now convinced that I have to replace my washer and dryer after using the front loading machines at the house, they are wonderful! The internet was a must have if you are traveling with teens. They have to stay connected to everything or they will wither and die. The community dock was great for fishing, even though we never caught anything and the deck is perfect for relaxing in the evening with a drink. We have never seen so many stars in our life! We took several day trips to Camden, Mt Battie, Boothbay Harbor, Wiscasset and it never took longer than 45 min to get where we were going. If you travel with children, take them to Monkey C Monkey Do, it is tons of fun! This was a very relaxing vacation and I highly recommend renting this home. We will rent again if we ever make it back to Maine.

We rented this property in July 2011 for our family of four and our mother-in-law. The layout is great and works well with grandparents because of the downstairs large bedroom with bath that can be closed off for privacy. It would also work well with two families. It has an extra room with a double bed so I would count it as four bedrooms even without a closet in that room. The photos accurately reflect the furnishings which we liked. The owners are very professional and responsive -they also provided lists of activities both through email and in the house. Do not be afraid of the listing of queen beds in the two "master" bedrooms - normally I would only rent with a king because I would be concerned about a queen bed "caving in" but these queen mattresses were very supportive and "even". It is very private but close enough drivewise to the nearby town Wiscasset (10 minutes) for lunch/grocery, etc. and a little further to Boothbay downtown (20-30 minutes). Our pre-teens enjoyed hunting for little crabs along the river rocks at low tide. We did not mind the walk down the hill to the river but someone with a cane would have to walk down to the common dock instead. The house is very nicely supplied in the kitchen and laundry with the little things that you don't want to have to start from scratch. It was extremely clean and more than enough towels, sheets, pillows, etc. There were fans in every room which we did need to use at night. An excellent place to unwind in beautiful surroundings and to use as a launching pad for Maine excursions.

The Perfect Getaway!

We were looking for a vacation where we could have access to a variety of activities, but a quiet place to stay. This house exceeded our expectations. The house was in immaculate condition. All appliances top notch, kitchen well supplied with pots, pans, dishes, etc. The deck was great, we spent each morning on the deck watching the sun come up. The grill was a great addition along with the supplied charcoal - although we couldn't find utensils for grilling. We were amazed at the absolute piece and quiet of the area. There are neighbors close by, yet barely visible becuse of the heavily wooded area. Cable tv provided all the popular channels although we rarely watched it, opting instead to read the wide variety of local magizines and books that are supplied. Wireless internet was a nice feature and found to work with no problems and was hi-speed. The property description was very accurate and the owner was very responsive to our e-mail inquiries. As far as local activities we recommend Tidal Kyaking in Boothbay Harbor, Cabbage Island Clam Bake, breakfast at Harborside restaurant (stuffed blueberry french toast), Boothbay Playhouse for community theatre and for a real local lobster roll try Coon's Grill on Rt 27.(if you don't mind dinning at a roadside grill.) We would return to this house in the future.

Owner's Response: We do have a nice set of tongs and a fork especially for the charcoal grill at the house, which we have kept in one of the kitchen drawers to this point. We will in the future keep these utensils with the grill so they are more easily found by future guests!.

We rented this house in September 2010 with a few other friends. The house was clean and beautiful. We loved that each room had its own bathroom. The owner of the house was very easy to work with. The pictures says it all, clean, bright and beautiful. We did a lot of cooking in the house since the kitchen was so big and easy to use. The fireplace was a great touch. It warmed up the whole house and all the fire wood in front of the house was cut up for us to us. I would rent this house again on our next Maine trip.
