Great carriage house

cdl Norfolk, VA
Review Submitted: June 18, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
My husband and I had a wonderful, romantic stay at the carriage house. The location is terrific - we were able to take bike-riding tours of the city, although if I were to do it again, I would not choose the summer months for this! The little apartment is beautifully decorated and very clean. I would definitely stay here again.
Owner's Response: We are extremely satisfied with the last 4 reviews of our property. We continuously strive to provide the utmost satisfaction with our accommodations.
Thanks to our renters who applauded us with their wonderful reviews….Joe & Diana

Great property, good neighborhood, nice landlords

The apartment is located above the garage behind a well restored historic home. While the house was built in the 1880’s the carriage house is new, spacious, well maintained, and comfortable. TV and wireless internet are provided and worked very well. Bathroom has a full shower/tub. Large walk-in closet also has a washer/dryer. Kitchen has electric range, microwave, dishwasher and a good sized refrigerator. Living room has a large sectional sofa and there is also a fold-up bed.
The owners are on-site and were very hospitable. Tenants have access to the garden area between the main house and carriage house. The garden is beautiful, very well kept, and guarded by a little dachshund who barks when you enter the yard but is harmless and actually well behaved.
The house is located at the south end of Forsyth Park but within walking distance to the historic section. A few blocks walk will give you access to the free shuttle that travels around the historic district. Also a few blocks away is a nice sized Kroger’s grocery store with a large parking lot. The visitor’s center is worth a stop for information (free parking) and the gift shops have lower prices for souvenirs than many shops on River Street.
We did some house tours and museums and walked the historic district visiting every square. We especially enjoyed the free concerts in the squares during the month of July. The town is walker friendly and has lots of shops and restaurant choices. For restaurants: Vic’s on the River was very good as a dinner choice and The Express Café excellent for lunch.
House tours were better than I expected. The best was the Green-Meldrim house that served as General Sherman’s headquarters during the Civil War, and the worst of which was the Mercer-Williams House, made famous in the book “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil”. The Mercer-Williams house tour is advertised as a 40 minute tour but ours was over in under 20 minutes. They only show the first floor and the guide seemed bored with giving the tour and rushed us through every room.
We would definitely recommend visiting Savannah and staying at this lovely carriage house.

Perfect place from which to enjoy Savannah

The location provides a wonderful alternative to the waterfront tourist area for those who want to get a feel for living in Savannah. We spent lots of time walking throughout the city, jogging around Forsyth Park, and in a local coffee shop, The Sentient Bean. From the carriage house, it was an easy drive to the barrier islands for kayaking. We could fix our own meals, purchasing food from a Kroger grocery store a few blocks away. The carriage house was a delightful and comfortable place to spend a couple weeks in a very walkable city.

Wonderful Place to Stay

We loved this place. It was perfect for the 2 of us. We had no problem walking to everything we wanted to see even to the riverfront. We took the free CAT shuttle a couple times...pick up was right at the other end of Forsythe Park. But enjoyed our walks. Joe & Diane were Great. Their gardens are beautiful. Had internet w/ no problems. We even walked to the Kroger's Grocery. Only used our car to drive to Bonaventure Cemetery. Place came w/ some dvd's, books, games---we loved playing Oceanopoly. Very clean, well kept place.

A real find

What we got was even better than we thought it would be. The carriage house was attractive and comfortable and in a wonderful, quiet location. We had free access to the large garden. The owners were on site and were very helpful even providing cards we could use to get savings at restaurants and the grocery store. We did use our car but if you don't mind walking across Forsyth Park to get the free shuttle or paying to take a bus closer, you could do without a car. There is a coffee shop, a small food market and a good restaurant within a block. The historical district is actually within walking distance.

Everything and More

Review Submitted: March 17, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
My wife Connie and I totally enjoyed our weeks stay at the carriage house. Everything that was written about it is true and then some. We would not hesitate to recommend this to any of our friends. It is close to lots of attractions and activities. I rode the bike, included in the rent, through Forsyth Park to the river front and the all the shops, etc. The trolley tour stop is just 2 or 3 blocks away, making it very easy to navigate even if you don't have a vehicle.

Joe and his wife and their puppy dog "Bacala" (sp) were most accommodating and enjoyable. The carriage house was clean and has everything you need except the groceries, which can be purchased about 5 short blocks away. We were able to connect to the internet with the free Wi-Fi provided and find restaurants, attractions and activities in and around the Savannah area. Don't hesitate to rent this place because it really is all we and everyone else has said about it. Joe lived up to his promise when he said "you will enjoy your visit to Savannah."

Wonderful Vacation/ Great Carriage House

SAVANNAH IS BEAUTIFUL !!! The carriage house was way above our expectation. WHAT A GEM !!! decorated with style, and spotless. Great kitchen with everything you needed to cook, extra linen/towels in the fantastic closet, and also a roll a bed for extra company. In the evening you could relax in the courtyard. You also have your own parking place. The carriage house is also located right across from Forsthy park, and walking distance from the historic district, restaurants, antique shops, and the river front. For us it was a romantic getaway where we could relax after a day of sightseing.
THE ONLY PLACE IN SAVANNAH TO STAY!!! We will recommend it to our friends, and will also be back with our grandaughters to visit.
Thank you Joe and Diana for your great southern hospitality.
Owner's Response: Thanks for another great review,we are glad another tenant
