Christmas Retreat

Submitted: December 26, 2012 Stayed: December 2012
My husband and I were looking for a pet-friendly, cozy cottage for a quiet retreat on Christmas, and this home was perfect. Everything was clean, fresh, warm and welcoming. The Christmas decorations and lights helped set the holiday mood for us during our stay too. It was simply delightful.

Saugatuck and Douglas holiday shopping was quiet and very nice compared to the hustle and bustle of the city. The local artists and shop owners were so welcoming and helpful.

Tom is a caring and accessible home owner and I so appreciated his attention to detail and kindness. We will be back. Thank you, Tom!

Winter getaway

We spent a lovely winter weekend at this cottage. We enjoyed dining at the great local restaurants. We had great meals at Everyday People Cafe, and the Elbo Room, and the pub at Clearbrook. All were family friendly and had amazing food. Saugatuck and Douglas are beautiful in the winter and the cottage was cozy and comfortable. The owner made us feel very welcome and provided everything we might need, including logs for the fireplace. The beds are very comfortable with good sheets! The kitchen is fully outifitted. Overall the cottage is very well maintained and was very clean.

A Little Slice of Heaven

We planned a somewhat last minute small family reunion and were lucky enough to find availability at this unique and most welcoming cottage. Quietly nestled among the tree's and down a winding road, it seems you are miles away. In fact Oval Beach is down the road and a 5 minute drive, downtown Saugatuck is a short drive and Douglas is around the corner. Best of all the Brewery is down the street. The cottage is perfectly appointed and feels like home the moment you arrive. It is charming with all the creature comforts you need and has three seperate patio's, to do nothing but lounge, build a fire and enjoy the scenery. We loved it and we will be back. It is absolutely lovely and the owner is a delight to work with. Could not have been any better.

Our Regular Summer Cottage

5 of 5
Submitted: September 17, 2010 Stayed: August 2010
I am not sure, 3 or 4 years now Tom's cottage has been ours for our summer family vacation. He is a most thoughtful host. We love everything about it, the location near both towns, yet the privacy of the wooded lot. The house itself has everything you need to have a wonderful lakeside vacation, so packing for this trip is easy. The kitchen is kitted out with I need to cook and bake--we spend 2 weeks here and while the restaurants are good in Douglas, I still like to cook. The house is clean, the beds comfortable and the girls love the loft space. The way the rooms are zoned adults can rise and have coffee early on the porch and the kids can sleep in. We also enjoy the outdoor shower, in fact I don't think we have ever used the indoor shower! Mornings on the sun deck are so beautiful and the teenagers love the fire pit at night. The screened-in porch allows for enjoyment of the evenings when the mosquitoes are out and early morning we see deer, and humming birds. We bring our dog as well which we love. Not only is this house wonderful, but we love the area for the beautiful beaches, horseback riding, canoeing, The Art Barn for rainy days, Douglas has a wonderful library and good restaurants in Douglas on Center and we also love M and M's on Blue Star. Just discovered the homemade cider doughnuts at Cranes this year. Holland is nearby for a shopping day--beautiful main street and Grand Haven is wonderful as well with an amazing pier and lighthouse. And yes, sunsets here are an event!

Cute Cottage with Great Location!

My husband and I rented this cottage for a week and brought our golden retriever. It was very cute and perfect for the 3 of us. We thought the location was almost perfect. Close to both downtown Douglas and Saugatuck and to both beaches. It's a lovely area to walk in especially if you park by Douglas Beach and walk down Lake Shore Drive. Fabulous views! The cottage had nicely done outdoor areas in which to lounge and enjoy the afternoon sun with a favorite cocktail. We enjoyed the entire week and would recommend for a small family and will definately return.

We have found our family vacation spot!

I echo the other two reviewers comments! The cottage is absolutely perfect for a relaxed vacation in Saugatuck/Douglas. We had little ones with us and so we drove to both Douglas and Oval beach-took us under 3 mintues for both. The owner, Tom, was more than attentive and talking to him is like talking to an old friend. He genuinely wants you to have a great vacation in his cottage and provides you with the perfect spot to do so. The cottage is cozy, landscaped beautifully, quiet, and stocked with all the little things you will need! We have definitely found our family vacation spot and can't wait to return in July!

I highly recommend staying at this property. It was clean, cozy and close to great shops and restaurants. We took advantage of both the fireplace inside and the fire pit outside. Very quiet neighborhood. Comfortable beds and everything we needed in the kitchen. The owner was very friendly and easy to conduct business with. I give it 2 thumbs up!!!

Family getaway

My group consisted of my parents, me, my wife, and my 2 young sons. The house was absolutely perfect. It was immaculate, well furnished and provided all the amenities we were looking for. The house was set back from the road, so we had plenty of privacy and we did not need to worry about our boys playing outside near a busy road. We were in close proximity to the beach, as well as the chain ferry that connects Douglas to Saugatuck. The owner of the property was very attentive to our needs and we would definitely stay there again!
