Great beach house

summerrental Colchester, CT
Review Submitted: August 25, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We were here for the week in July, really enjoyed the house. We have a 4 month old and my sister-in law has a 4 yr old and a 6 month old. First time at Scarborough beach which was great...The house is only about a mile from the beach. Outdoor shower was very nice and it was nice to have AC in the house as well. Everything was clean and we had everything we needed there at the house for us. Nice quiet neighborhood as well. The owners stayed in touch throughout the entire process. Aunt Carrie's had some great seafood which is right down the road; lots of places nearby to eat, and also mini golf nearby. We really enjoyed our stay!
Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind review and I am so glad you enjoyed our beach house.

Great Vacation !

We can't thank you enough for a great vacation. After lasts years experience we were DELIGHTED with your home! It was neat, clean and all the site promised. The kitchen was fully stocked; thank you for mailing us new dishtowels the week we were there! The beds were comfortable, and all the rooms were freshly painted. We loved having the family room downstairs to watch movies. We walked to the beach most days, grilled something quick fro dinner and we were off again! We shopped till we dropped, doing our part to stimulate the economy. It was great having so much shopping so close by. We also took the short drive to the beautiful town of Watch Hill. I would be happy to rent again next year. I also felt so comfortable knowing that you were just a phone call away. Thanks again.
Owner's Response: You are welcome and I am so glad you and your family enjoyed the house and will have lasting memories.

This was our second time staying at this house, and it was even nicer than last year! The kitchen and most of the rooms were freshly painted. The house was clean and the kitchen is indeed fully stocked with everything you need to have an enjoyable vacation.
Hope to be back again next year!
Owner's Response: I am very excited the house has been received well. We do pride ourselves on the look and cleanliness of our home. We are very excited when families enjoy their vacation and bring home lasting memories.

Loved the house, rebooked for next year!

The house is as described! When we arrived in early July, we had brand new carpeting through out the house. The bathroom downstairs (which is a complete plus!) was brand new and beautiful. The upstairs bathroom was clean and neat. The kids played video games downstairs, which helped keep them out of our hair.
The beds were comfy and the rooms were freshly painted.
The house is conveniently located near the beach and other local attractions.
We have booked again for next summer!!

The only scent I smelled was new wood, new paint & new carpet. We had 9 people staying in the house six of them kids! The downstairs new family room and bathroom was great because the kids played, video games , watched TV etc. The house was clean and well maintained. The kitchen was well stocked and upon leaving we immediately booked for next year.!
Owner's Response: Thank you and we will talk soon.

Great Vacation can't wait for next year

I stayed at their home this summer. We had such a great time, the area and house was so convenient. When we arrived the house was clean and had all the amenities of home. We have been staying in the area for years and this home was ideal.

The room and bathroom downstairs was brand new and great for the kids, I have 3 small children. You could tell the house was freshly painted and new rugs in some of the rooms. The backyard was great for the kids.

There was a minor lock problem with the back door, I was able to get in touch with the owners immediately and someone was there within the hour to fix it.

Can't wait for next year and she gave us first choice for the same week again..
Owner's Response: Thanks for the review see you soon!

A great time was had by all!!

My family rented this house over the New Years weekend last year and it was everything that the description said it would be and more. The bedrooms were clean and the beds comfy with fresh clean linens and that says a lot coming from me, the woman who brings her own sheets to a hotel! There were plenty of dishes, pots and pans, utensils, everything that I have in my own home. There was even a washer dryer - a lifesaver when you are traveling with a 1 year old as I was at the time. There were 7 of us and we had plenty of seating both in the living room and dining area. The owner even provided take out menus, local restaurant menus and brochures of attractions in the area which made it so easy to see the sights and go out to eat without a hassle. The bathroom was spotless and you could tell it had just been refinished, not a speck of mold on the shower curtain! Not only would I recommend this property to a friend, I think we will be renting it again this year if it is available. A big THANK YOU to the owners who obviously care about their house and their guests. Good job!
Owner's Response: Thank you I am so glad you enjoyed yourself

This House is a nightmare, Don't be deceived

Whatadrag Marlborough, NY
Review Submitted: November 26, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
This houses description couldn't be any further from the truth. The first point I need to make is that it is not completely renovated. The only part that was renovated was the basement which still had an odor. The first thing that hits you is the odor when you walk in the door. I had to spend $50 on various air fresheners throughout the week to try and make it tolerable while we were there. Thank God our family was also staying in Scarborough so we could go to their house until it was time to go to bed.Otherwise we would have left. It smelled like cats had used it as a litter box. The bed in one of the rooms broke when my 2 year old daughter sat on it and we had to wait for the handy man to come and fix it. We complained about the odor and the owner blamed it on the people who were there before us, saying they were from the "bronx". Nothing was redone, the bathroom upstairs was gross and not at all "updated". The downstairs bathroom was still dirty when we got there with cleaner all over the toilet seat. The washing machine leaked. There was no way enough seating for 8-10 people to eat or watch TV ever. Even if you used the stools and the couches. On top of that the ceiling fans had no light bulbs in them. The kitchen is not stocked with all the amenities, the 10 people who "can" stay there couldn't each have a plate.

After spending the entire week on the phone with the owners they gave us a small refund but that didn't even cover the cost of how much we had to spend to eat out because you could not eat in the house it was so rancid.

Please don't be fooled. Even if it's this house or no vacation, buy a nice blow up pool, throw it in the yard, and get some fillet mignon for the grill. Save yourself the nightmare, headache and gas.
Owner's Response: It is very unfortunate that individuals feel the need to embelish on the facts. Our home was and is completely renovated, we have painted the whole house, laid wall to wall berber carpet in all bedrooms and living room. The basement was and is brand new with new berber carpeting, with a complete new full bathroom. The upstairs bathroom had a new floor, new vanity, new toilet, clean resurfaced tub. Never has anyone mentioned a smell other than a new rug smell. Never have any animals been in the home. Never has anyone mentioned not a clean house. The kitchen counter seating area has 6 chairs, the living room has 2 couches. The maid did leave a residue from a cleaning product on the toilet bowl seat. And as for the "Bronx comment". I am from the Bronx I would never ever make a derogatory comment like that!

There are 5 ceiling fans in the house and every one of them had lights in them. I did receive a call about out light bulbs and I informed the tenant there were bulbs in the kitchen cabinet. Check in is Saturday we were informed Monday afternoon that the bed was broken and on Tuesday evening our handyman replaced it with a new full bed. Because of the broken bed I refunded $300.00 for the loss of that bedroom. If for any reason one wants a walk thru prior to booking I am more than happy to do so.
I am sorry that the tenants were not happy but I answered each call, responded immediately and tried to make it an enjoyable vacation for them.
