House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6-10)

Our mountain ranch home is uniquely located on 45 acres at the end of Cabezon Canyon, beautifully situated with a view of Chimney Rock and the San Juan mountains. There is a small year-round creek and you will most likely see all sorts of wildlife such as deer, elk, bobcats, wild turkey, coyotes, even bears - all dependent on which season of the year you come to vacation.

There is also ample room for you to bring your horses and parking for your trailer. We have fenced pasture and run-in stalls for your horses, including hay and water for an additional fee. You can ride on our land, venture into National Forest, or trailer your horses to numerous nearby riding trails into the millions of acres of National Forest surrounding the Pagosa area. The Parelli Natural Horsemanship Center is only a 20 min. drive north and a 20 min. drive south is Navajo Lake if you want to boat, fish or swim. World class fishing on the Piedra River or the San Juan River are also minutes away.

The town of Pagosa Springs, 25 minutes away has shopping, restaurants, an historic theatre, a museum, and the famous Hot Springs and Spa located on the San Juan River. In every season there is something fun to do in our area - fishing, hunting, hiking, mountain biking, horse-back riding, river rafting, skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing - the list goes on! Everything is within five to 30 minutes away. Wolf Creek Ski Resort is approx. 50 miles to the east and Durango Mtn. Resort is approx. 60 miles to the west. Durango airport is less than an hour drive. Come and enjoy the mountains!

About Philip & Anne Tomforde

My husband and I purchased our ranch in 1999 and lived there for 5 years before his job moved us elsewhere. We ran a small horse boarding business in the early days and love keeping horses to this day. We appreciate our unique land, it's privacy, and all the wildlife....it is our dream to retire here someday!

THE ULTIMATE COLORADO VACATION RENTAL

Where do I start! The home was exceptional in all aspects! Clean, spacious, well stocked and so very cozy! The location afforded tremendous privacy and the opportunity to truly relax and enjoy our vacation without worrying about the children bothering anyone by with their extreme exuberance! We love the outdoors and this is where the home excels..National Forest and wildlife in abundance..I have had good experiences with all my previous vacation rentals but nothing compares to this home! By the way, Anne Tomforde is expetionally nice and a pleasure to work with and Chuck, the ranch foreman so to speak, is great and very helpful! We liked him enough to ask him to share our final meal at the home with us! You can't go wrong with this property; dont be put off by the 25 minute drive to Pagosa, the setting and privacy more than compensate for that and it makes the Durango area much more convenient! In the end..I can tell you this was one of the most special weeks that my family has ever spent together!

MOST FAVORITE TRANQUIL VACATION EVER!!

We spent our Spring Break at this most beautiful ranch home and hated to leave! It was a home away from home...very peaceful, home is so cozy and inviting. It is more amazing than the pictures, we arrived just in time to enjoy fresh snow and it lasted a few days so that we did some awesome sledding at the property, snowball fights and lovely winter scenery walks with our two dogs. Our dogs were in doggie heaven with so much space to run and explore...they had a blast! We were also welcomed by lighted and cozy warm home....and delicious homemade cinnamon rolls made by the ranch caretaker's wife, Tammy. Bill and Tammy were so nice. We enjoyed so many fun activities in Pagosa Springs, Wolf Creek, Durango. We couldn't have asked for a better place for our family vacation. We feel very blessed to find this rental home, visited with the owner...Anne several times and she is wonderful and so helpful. We will definitely go back again and highly recommend this amazing place to everyone. Thank you, Anne and family for sharing your home with our family. It was such a blessing! If you renters want a private, peaceful location for a get away, this is the BEST mountain retreat to choose.
Sincerely, The Merritt family...and pets (Max n Smokey)

Wonderful retreat

My husband and I and our two dogs had a fantastic stay at this mountain retreat. The setting is in a beautiful and private valley near Chimney Rock. Our dogs loved roaming in the pasture with the horses after overcoming their initial fear. There are so many wonderful hiking trails nearby as well as the National Forest right there at the house. The house was furnished with everything and more you could want, extremely thoughtful touches. You really can't go wrong staying here. We hope to return soon.

Perfect cabin getaway

When can I go back?

I just loved this cabin. I stayed for a week at the end of February with my boyfriend and our dogs and it was the best vacation I've ever been on. The house is very well furnished, homey, and very comfortable. We had so much room we couldn't find our stuff most of the time. The wood burning stove kept us cozy when we didn't want to use the heater, and the kitchen had everything we needed besides the food. Coffee maker and grinder!

On the property we went for walks with the dogs, went snowshoeing up the hills, and did cross country skiing in the 5 ft deep snow in the large open pastures. At Wolf Creek we had amazing powder skiing days, followed afterwards by a trip to "The Springs" hot springs in Pagosa, where we ended up every afternoon/evening.

4 wheel drive recommended in winter.

Remote, beautiful, just as described (maybe a bit better)!. got a chance for a little horseback lesson/ride from Bill, the ranch manager and awesome horseman. Taught me a lot, and had a beautiful ride. I would come back here if i get the chance. Anne, owner, was very nice and responsive to a zillion questions I had. Even saw a bear cub!
Lots of room for the dogs to run, great access to USFS land for exploration.

Beautiful Location!!!

We are in complete agreement with the Gentleman from Texas and his review! Wow! The cabin is in an absolutely beautiful valley. I only wish I brought my horses! The cabin was clean, spacious and very well stocked! We slept like babies (even the kids!) in extremely comfortable and clean beds. The kids had plenty of space to explore and the little creek was a daily spot of rock collecting and bug examining. If you are the outdoorsy type, this is a perfect 'home base' to Williams Creek Reservoir and Chimney Rock. We also recommend taking the tour at Chimney Rock. Truly an amazing vacation and I am going to contact Anne about a family reunion!!! We never even made it into Pagosa Springs, as we were just comfortable hanging out in the peace and quite of nature. Thanks again!

We have enjoyed this vacation rental for a month Aug.2010 and two weeks Aug. 2011. We plan to return again next summer. It is a beautiful setting and the home includes all the amenities to make you feel at home. It also has a mud room which was perfect for leaving our dog when we went shopping. We also checked out the boarding kennel at Elk Park Animal clinic in case we wanted to take a long day trip or overnighter.

Peace and Quiet

My family stayed in Anne's home the first week of July 2010. It was quiet, relaxing, and great for stargazing at night. We enjoyed having a campfire several nights we were there. I really appreciated how fully stocked the kitchen was with not only pots and pans, dishes, and such, but with salt and pepper and several other spices. So nice not to have to bring dishwashing detergent, etc. The home is located at the end of a quiet road so there is no traffic going by, which was really nice. We also appreciated the fans in the house to cool it off in the late afternoon. I think we used the gas grill nearly every night - so nice to have that available. This is a great place to stay to get away from city noise and lights. It was great to be able to sit outside and enjoy the fresh crisp Colorado air.

Great Home Away From Home

5 of 5
Submitted: June 16, 2009 Stayed: June 2009
We (three couples) rented this home for a week as a base home for riding our motorcycles. The location was a central point for several day rides. The gravel road was well maintained and easy to navigate with the bikes. Having three bedrooms and three bathrooms worked very well for us. We used the outside fire pit for roasting dogs and making smores. The gas barbecue grill was handy for several quick meals. We appreciated having everything there that we needed to really enjoy our stay, a great home away from home. We enjoyed feeding the horses and Chuck, who gave us a detailed orientation and then let us enjoy the home.
The wild turkeys were a pleasure to see and hear (hope the coyotes stay away). We were able to watch the NBA playoffs with very good satellite reception. We will highly recommend this home and serene environment to our friends who want to stay in this area.
Thank you very much Phillip and Anne.

What a wonderful place to stay. If you are looking for off the beaten path, this is the place! My family and I stayed for a week and we only saw one car during that time. We had wild turkey's within steps of the house each morning. Twice we saw elk in the pasture! We also saw mule deer each day.

The caretaker Chuck was very nice and accomdating. We all are looking forward to the next time we can make it to this place.
