Private, Open and Relaxing

We stayed here in Aug 2008 - 2 families: 4 adults, 4 kids 6-17 years old. It was great. The mahogany doors (like 6-pair) in the great room all swing wide open so the veranda and living room are like one, with plenty of air. The view is great day and night. Kids slept downstairs (no indoor stair) in 2 suites, so they could get away from noise to sleep and the rest could stay up (and vice versa in the AM). We were concerned a little about that separation, but the villa is very private and there are plenty of locks. We were very comfortable, even the women. (There's a loft over the kitchen they could have slept in, but it's real hot up there and no one went there). The veranda was absolutely great - huge, stone tile floors and nice outdoor furniture. Fruity rum drinks in the outdoor breezes while the kids swim and others play chess at the table - with music going through the whole house. Very luxurious place overall. Good location, though we wish it was a bit closer to the beach (but it's no worse than anyplace else). If Ditlief Point is still open, can drive there or take a 20-25-min hot walk back and forth. Nice beach and snorkeling there (it's underrated). Easy to drive everywhere else, in terms of St John driving at least. You can get 2+ cars in the driveway, but backing out is a challenge first time (the road is steep). Pool is smallish and quite warm, but it was a welcome respite for all several times a day. The 'outdoor showers' (they're really kind of indoors) were way cool, and big. The entryway was nice and big for the sandy stuff, and the coolers and chairs provided by the house were useful. Everything we needed for cooking, laundry, TV, music, etc. was there. The a/c in the bedrooms worked great. WiFi internet worked fine except when there was a storm (it was the island not the house), but that's the islands mon.
