Beautiful Vacation Home

Dave and Caroline Beverly, MA
Review Submitted: November 4, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
David and Laurie really know how to treat their guests well. We arrived to a bountiful welcome basket of all sorts of Maine goodies.
We loved the house. Gorgeous kitchen stocked with everything you'd need including a great spice collection. Our two kids, 6 and 3 very much enjoyed the house and the surrounding grounds. My wife and I fell in love with the master suite, so much so we've been contemplating doing the same to our house. Beautiful views of the bay from the master suite, living room and dining room.
David and Laurie were also very accommodating and were available if we needed them at any time.

Very Special Place!

Review Submitted: October 3, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
I have to second everything that was already said in other reviews. Laurie and David's home is the perfect vacation spot, clean, comfortable, with everything you will need. Beyond that, there are so many special touches in the home and little surprises that make it like home, but better! You'll have to stay there yourself to find out. Laurie and David made their Frenchman's Bay Retreat an amazing place! If you enjoy nature and being "out of the way" as well as having easy access to town and MDI, this is the perfect place to spend some time.

We can't wait to go back!

We loved this house.

We really enjoyed staying at this property. The house is beautifully decorated on the inside and is very clean. The view of the bay from the house is wonderful. There is a path down to the bay that makes it even more lovely. We highly recommend this house as a family vacation getaway!

Exactly what we needed!

Review Submitted: September 26, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
The description of this retreat doesn't do it justice. The location was well-tucked away and yet at the same time only short distances from Bar Harbor, great restaurants, private beaches and necessary accomodations like grocery stores. The only thing we needed to bring, literally, was food. The house was very well maintained and comfortable. We wanted to recommended this house to family members and friends then realized I would rather keep this gem a secret so we'd have better luck with future bookings. This is one vacation you will not regret, whether you are looking for active play or quiet calm.

A Great House

RuthS Wellesley, MA, USA
Review Submitted: July 22, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We rented for a week in July. The house is spacious and comfortable, with wonderful, direct views from the living and dining rooms, and 2 bedrooms, to the Bay. The kitchen had everything a cook needed or wanted. The furniture and the layout made for a pleasant and relaxed environment..
It's a short drive to a good beach and a longer drive to Bar Harbor, Acadia and other special towns and sites.
The owners are friendly and accommodating. We found it an ideal place for our vacation. .

Perfect for Families

Granola Girl sutton, MA
Review Submitted: July 21, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
Laurie and Dave were perfect hosts, helpful in every way. The home was gorgous. Just as the pictures showed and house was so clean and comfortable!!! We had more than enough room to spread out, the kitchen had everything we could have possibly needed. The laundry came in very handy with our active vacation. The wildflowers and her gardens were so pretty. It is a special place in many ways. The views were amazing from every room... a true gem!!!!

Immediatley upon arrival my girls ran down to the stream, explored the ocean grass, tidal pools and found a birds nest on the ground and a crab. They were in in heaven. Kayaking was a breeze from the shores of raccon cove. We were able to see and hear many birds, including the eagles nest and explore the little beaches, granite shoreline and inlets on the cove. So fun.
Close enough to Acadia National park we would alternate between the park and staying at our home away from home on Frenchmans Bay. Bar Harbour was beautiful and we enjoyed the views, shops and resturants there.
Ellsworth was a quant town. Resturants, groceries and shops were 15 minutes away. Finellis Pizza was outstanding!!!
Highly recommended!!! You will not be disappointed!!!!

Perfect retreat from the city life, any city!

Fishing Fool Knoxville, TN USA
Review Submitted: November 1, 2008 Date of Stay: October 2008
I was very surprised and pleased to find that the web site and pictures and review were right on and not misleading by any stretch of the imagination. We wanted to be away from the rat race but located where we could get to the places we were going in any direction in short time. This location was perfect, only wish we had not had so much planned and could have stayed at the house more!
The location is great the house is perfect and beautiful and the sun rise when the tideis up is beyond words. You will have to get up and take pictures, you can't help yourself!
I highly recommend Laurie and David's house to anyone whou wants to find peace and quite surrounded by beauty and serinity!

Beyond our every expectation

Review Submitted: October 29, 2008 Date of Stay: October 2008
While we were excited by the photos I had to admit some concern that "it can't be that good".

We were absolutely thrilled by how well the house was furnished and cleaned. I was hesitant to get the BBQ grill dirty. Everything was in great condition and beyond our expectations. Anything we could possibly need was available. The master bedroom was really special. It was neat to see the sunrise above your toes in the morning. The downstairs rooms were simpler but met the needs of our elementary age kids just great.

We all loved the location and were disappointed several times to not return "home" before dark to enjoy it more. When we first arrived in the dark, I was fearful of never finding the house but the directions were just fine.

This location is a perfect getaway for a couple alone or with younger children. Be aware there is no door at the top of the steps so it does take a little consideration not to disturb those early to bed or late to rise. If you share it with another couple, decide beforehand who gets the "penthouse suite" or someone will be jealous.

To make our departure just a bit tougher, I spotted a bald eagle as I was packing the car.

Hope your stay is as great as ours!

September sunrise

H & E McLean, Virginia
Review Submitted: October 5, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2008
Autumn is the pleasing sound of peace that comes when waking to a sunrise off Raccoon Cove on the rocky coast of Maine with tall pines reaching for the sky and water views everywhere.

As a special retreat we were fortunate to find David and Laurie's home in Lamoine, Maine with that exact description.

They welcome you to their home with flowers inside and gardens outside, a cheerful welcome basket and lots of local travel information and tips. It is helpful that they have their own cabin over the creek and are thus available for emergencies. We had a dead battery one morning and they and their neighbors really helped us out of a pinch!

The home itself seems brand new and is sparkling clean throughout. Linens are provided and are really lovely as you bathe enjoying the special tiling and decorative items in the baths. The kitchen has all you will need to prepare either a quick breakfast or a gourmet dinner.
A full washer and dryer really help with packing fewer clothes.

Off on the side and back decks you enjoy the beauty of the Maine forest and a close up of Raccoon Cove. Table and chairs make outdoor eating wonderful. A walkway down to the Cove is lovely any time of the day and although we do not kayak or canoe it is certainly seems a
great spot to launch out to Frenchmen's Bay. Lamoine Beach is a close drive away and there are several other spots right in Lamoine to enjoy water sports.

Stores are nearby and will cover any contingency.
Ellsworth is about 10-15 minutes away depending on where you are heading. The entrance to Acadia National Park is about 15-20 minutes depending on traffic. Heading further north east you can visit Campobello or Schootic Peninsula or Great Wass Island, all with hiking possibilities. If going to Campobello bring your passport as you do pass into Canada. A great day trip with free admission!

Seafood abounds in restaurants or take-out spots for cooked lobsters, shrimp, or haddock. There are loads of restaurants in the entire area but picnic lunches on the mountaintops or beaches are the best!

Be sure to bring your hiking boots, poles and muscles. Some hikes are very tame and good for all, others are challenging! The carriage trails are great for walking or biking. Charter water voyages are available for all types of exploring.

A week is not enough so you will always want to return to the wonders of this corner of Maine. Please save us some time as we also hope to return again! It was our second year.
