Best place in the World!

To think about The House of Bamboo only one word really comes to mind…WOW! The House of Bamboo was simply our very best stop on our extended journey and our favorite place in the world. We have traveled far and wide and nothing even comes close to the House of Bamboo. As we headed up the stairs we knew that we were in for a treat. The landscaping and flowers were literally falling on our heads, truly an amazing garden. Once we arrived at the top we were absolutely speechless. The place is far more grand and beautiful than I ever imagined.

Brad picked us up from Savusavu airport and as we were driving through town he gave us the run down on where to go, what to see and where to buy provisions. We were in awe of his knowledge of the island. The information he provided us maximized our time and adventure!

Basically our favorite thing was waking up, having a leisurely breakfast outside, either poolside or on the deck. Followed by wonderful snorkeling adventures, literally right out front! Then a soak in the pool, lunch, snorkel, dip in the pool, early dinner while watching the sunset (which is AMAZING) and then maybe a movie! At the House of Bamboo you do not need to leave…

One thing I must add is that I have spent a good portion of my life in a kitchen, chopping, cutting, searing, broiling, etc.. You name it, I have probably cooked it to order a myriad of times. I MUST say that the kitchen is spectacular! All the tools you need for gourmet meals are there. I was extremely impressed, the kitchen was above and beyond my expectations and those are extremely high!

Everything at the House of Bamboo is completely luxurious and completely spotless.. We will stay there again and we look forward to some day taking some children along with us! This is simply the best place and best value on the island. If you are planning a trip, I would not spend a bunch of time looking at all the options the island has to offer, I would not waste time comparing resorts. I did that and I am 100% convinced that booking the House of Bamboo is the best decision of your trip that you will make. We booked 4 days but should have booked 40. Do yourself a favor and stay here!

Also, there is mention of the 100+ stairs up to the house. Piece of cake! I/We would easily climb 100,000 stairs to stay here, it is well worth it. Heck, we would climb 100,000 stairs to look out across the bay!

This is simply the best decision you can make.

Relax & Take In Fiji from House of Bamboo

Review Submitted: April 4, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2008
The House of Bamboo in Savusavu is a wonderful, relaxing place to be. The house has beautiful views, lots of privacy, is very clean and comfortable. Sunsets can be quite fantastic, so bring your camera. The kitchen is well stocked for your needs and beds are very comfortable. Pool area is also very relaxing. House also has a washing machine (so you can bring less in your suitcase). Host/owners Brad and Therese are very good hosts. They provided great tips on restaurants, where/when to shop, island things to do, and suggestions for taxi and local bus service that come past house. Brad even carried my larger bags up the many steps to house on arrival (which was very kind of him to do).

The island itself was very charming and peaceful place to be. We enjoyed SCUBA diving with an outfit in town (who often picked us up by boat) in front of house. We also repeatedly visited some favorite restaurants that offered foods with mouth watering flavors (places suggested by Brad & Therese). In addition to cooking your own food at house, you can also do take out when you want to entirely kick back and enjoy house. You can even find a nice glass of wine to go with your meal or sunset, by stopping in at the wine shop in town. Finally, the Fijians we met and passed out and about were wonderfully friendly, greeting others with "mbula" (giving us a very welcome feeling). If my husband and I are so fortunate to return to Fiji in the future, we will definitely check with Brad & Therese to see if the house is still available for vacation rental.
Owner's Response: It's always great to hear that our guests have not only enjoyed the House of Bamboo but also all the wonderful things that Savusavu has to offer, especially the warmth and friendliness of the people in town and of course the yummy food and the great diving. Thanks again guys for staying with us and we look forward to welcoming you back one day to the House of Bamboo and Savusavu. Vinaka....

Amazing!

From the moment we were picked up by Brad at the airport we knew we had chosen well. After climbing the 99 steps to the house, we looked out at the amazing view, looked around at the beautifully appointed and very comfortable house and the lovely outside envionment with day bed etc and were so excited that we could spend our next 5 days here. Wow. We had such a good time - relaxing, snorkelling and travelling into Savusavu, getting to know various taxi drivers, getting an insight into Fijian life. The House of bamboo exceeded our expectations.
Thanks to Brad and Therese and family for their hospitality and friendship.

The Bamboo House is a must! If you are looking for a self-catering spacious home, this is it! We have rented other homes in the U.S. & some have been disappointing. But owners Brad & Therese have made the Fiji Beach Shacks-Bamboo House the cleanest rental home we have ever stayed in. The view is breathtaking, the pool is private, the home is spacious, well equiped & relaxing. They have done a wonderful job & we will look to stay at this property or any other they may have in the future.

This is THE place to stay

If you plan on spending time in Savusavu (and my husband and I found it to be an absolute paradise), renting this house is the best thing you can do for your trip. It was a perfect getaway with exactly the right combination of entertainment options (private pool, walk into town, snorkeling just a few feet away) and space to relax (sundeck, beautiful views). The house provides all the comforts of home while still feeling like a tropical escape. Very clean and well-kept with geckos on the walls. We are very much looking forward to our return trip and would never consider staying anywhere else.

The House of Bamboo Savusavu Fiji Islands

Jetna Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
Review Submitted: March 18, 2008 Date of Stay: November 2007
My family had the luxury of staying at the House of Bamboo for 3 months and it was a truly wonderful experience. The house itself provided all the necessary facilities, but the highlight was the pool which we spent many hours relaxing and sunning ourselves on the deck. The views were magnificent over the bay watching many yachts and ferries passing by and the evenings on the verhandah displayed magnificent sunsets. 'We never quite got over the 99 steps but it was worth every step of the way'! Savusavu is a lovely place to visit, friendly people and the local food is great - if you like seafood the market provides a range of fresh fish and lobster everyday.
Our hosts Brad & Therese could not have been more helpful and made our stay an experience we will never forget.

The most perfect Island getaway in Fiji!

Oilucy Willow Vale NSW Australia
Review Submitted: March 13, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2007
This is absolute luxury island accommodation at its best - with the beach, coral reefs, snorkeling & kayaking all at your doorstep.
The 'House of Bamboo' is perfect for couples or families - it comprises two levels of accommodation (each level having its own bedroom and ensuite bathroom) together with a spacious living and dining area and a stunning island decor.
The House of Bamboo is only a stones throw from the local Savusavu restaurants and town centre, though offers a fully equipped kitchen for anyone that prefers to buy fresh fish, bread and produce from local markets and cook at home (there is even enough equipment to bake a cake!).
There are spectacular views over Savusavu Bay from every window of the home and the established garden that surrounds the pool, deck & cabana manes you can relax in complete privacy.
This was definitely the most fantastic holiday we've ever had and we can't wait to go back!
