Wickford Cove Cottage

Our family rented Cove Cottage for the last week in May. Although we had seen picturs on line, we weren't quite sure what to expect. It was even better than we had hoped. We felt it was reasonably priced, especially after checking out other properties. There were 4 of us, so 2 bedromms and 1 1/2 baths were sufficient. The kitchen has all the necessary amenities, including a microwave and coffee maker. The washer/dryer came in handy. There's a TV with a DVD player, so we were able to watch movies at night.
Linda was extremely helpful throughout. When we were considering renting, she answered all our questions. She sent us links to sites for restaurants and places of interest, and made us aware of Groupon offers in the area. When we arrived, she explained everything, left us a loaf of delicous bread from a local bakery, then basically left us alone (although she was available if we needed something).
Wickford Village is quaint. You can walk into the village in about 5 minutes. There are a few places to eat and some neat little shops. The village is not really touristy. It's the type of place where you can relax. The location is ideal - about 20 minutes to Newport, 30 to Providence and maybe 45 to the southern beaches and the ferry to Block Island.
One afternoon we went to Beavertail State Park, on Jamestown Island. It's a neat place withscenic cliffs and WWII bunkers. One day we took the ferry to Block Island. We rented mopeds, drove around, stopped for a nice linch, then drove around more until we caught the ferry back. At the north point, we even saw seals. It was probably the best day of our vacation.
I think that our 19 year old son was hoping for something a little more exciting. He said that he wished he had brought his play station and some more books. Despite this, he had as good a time as the rest of us. The cottage is close to the center of the village. A couple of mornings we had traffic noise, but not excessively so. The worst problem we had was figuring out high and low tides so when we took out the kayaks, we could get undert the bridge and out into the bay.
All in all, we had a great vacation. We recommend Cove Cottage and Wickford Village, especially if you're looking for a place where you can really get away and relax.
