Memorial Day Weekend - Reasonable Rate

Chalet was pretty nice, clean. Upon heading up there Fri pm, the owner called to see if we minded him stopping by to fix the toilet; holiday weekend???? Thought he should've done that before we arrived, but agreed if he called first. Upon our arrival, we had to contact the owner due to cat/dog hair embedded in the couch and we didn't want to be blamed for that (I brought a white dog) and lose our deposit. The owner showed up unannounced to take a picture of the hair on couch. Not too happy with that, then informed us he'd be stopping by on Sat. to fix the toilet. Even unhappier with that. The screen door fell of the tracks and the sliding patio door barely opened, front door didn't latch; dogs were getting lose. Sat. morning my husband (carpenter) fixed the toilet and all the doors so the owner wouldn't intrude on our privacy again. Didn't see him after that. No toaster; strange not to provide. Owner didn't inform us that open fires were banned when we asked if we could have one. Found out when the security guard told us to put it out. Very big deal to us. Lots of deer - good thing. Boat launch - good luck, no dock and lots of rocks. Had to drive 20 min. to a nice launch. Wouldn't go back there; we love our campfires and privacy!
Owner's Response: We were surprised and concerned to read the review. We take the safety and comfort of our guests very seriously.
We did first learn from the cleaning service that day that there was a slow leak internally in one of the toilet tanks causing the water to run. Since time did not allow this to be repaired prior to their check-in, we called the guests in advance of their arrival, and informed them we would have it repaired at their convenience. They called later that night to inform us they had repaired the leak and it would not be necessary for us to have it fixed during their stay.
The house is checked prior to each rental. We ask all renters to call upon check-in if there is any discrepancy with the inventory or condition of the house, in order to verify the condition together. This assures that no charges will be made against the guest’s deposit for which they are not responsible. The renter acknowledges the “Chalet was pretty nice, clean”. We believe the issue of the animal hair was from their dog(s), and based on their concern about losing their deposit. No deposit monies are forfeited unless excessive cleaning costs are incurred, damage is done, or fines assessed. We are not in the business to keep deposit money- this would be bad for business.
The front door to the house is perfectly secure and has no issue locking. The door to the screened-in room has a dead bolt. If not used, can be pushed open.
No toaster: We always appreciate suggestions to make our guest’s stay more enjoyable.
A local burning ban determined by the fire department based on draught conditions was why the fire needed to be extinguished.
A slip is available for use when launching boats on Lake Wallenpaupack. The launch was manned if any questions came up. Rocks? It is unclear to me where he was launching the boat from, as the launch is a standard concrete launch.
We can only assure future renters since we have been in business, our return rate is excellent. Our house is rented all summer, every summer since we started. Our guest book in the house is filled with wonderful comments and return guests seem to love the house. As with any house, it is possible for things to break or need to be fixed. We do all we can so that we are proactive – we don’t want renters to be inconvenienced. But if something does come up last minute we are responsive and handle it professionally to ensure that our renters have a good stay with us.
