My husband & I have been coming to the Kona area since 1994. We find ourselves drawn to the Keahou area. We were delighted to find the "Sugar Shack" for our most recent stay. We were joined by two other couples. The house was well appointed with plenty of room for everyone and all our "stuff". We loved having all of our meals on the large lanai. Have a garage to store all our snorkel gear was great. We walked to the bay for snorkeling, fishing (caught 4 Ono while on the Captain Jack), renting kayaks & SUPs. Thanks Millie - Kathi, Montie & friends

We were in this home for a month. All things are as described, in fact, exceed the expectation. Everything works, it's clean and comfy. Minutes to the beach. Extra gear in the garage for beach trips was awesome. Chairs, cooler, fins, snorkel.... how cool! I appreciated the WIFI for working (although there is hardly time for it!) and the ability to sit on the lanai and use my laptop there. Nothing better than to run your business from such a beautiful spot. The owner was concise and responded to questions prior to our arrival quickly. Will I rent again - YES. This is a great home at a very fair price.

Good Times at the Sugar Shack

What a place to stay and relax! Watched the sunsets on the huge lanai a true stones throw from the surf. Location was so perfect with everything a walk away. House was ideal with bedrooms spread throughout for privacy. Beach stuff in the garage was so convenient, so we didn't have to rent snorkles, etc. Owner was very timely on all correspondence and just awesome to deal with. Definately recommend the Sugar Shack and will be returning again. Loved all the literature & guides left in the house to see what other activites were available.

Even Better then Described

Donna's review of this property (below) really captures it. While accurate, the decription of this house on VRBO does not do it justice! The house doesn't have a pool and isn't on a sandy beach (not many of those on the Kona Coast), but everything else you could want is there. It is clean and well-maintained with up-to-date appliances. Heeia Bay is a two-minute walk and the snorkeling is fantastic. One morning we saw 8 sea turtles (maybe the same one more than once, but definitely more than 5) and a wide variety of fish. Better than renowned Keauhou Bay next door - which we also tried. The view is great and the lanai fabulous. It sleeps 6 in 3 rooms very comfortably; the sofa bed can handle one or two more, but is in the middle of the living room. Ceiling fans everywhere keep it nice and cool. When I rent a house, I am always forgetting little things that I need. The Keauhou Shopping Center is a 3-minute drive up the hill. Between the supermarket and Long's drug store everything you need is there. And they have great Hawaiian entertainment every week. Maybe best of all, this house is an excellent value! Highly recommended, especially for families.

We had very nice stay. The house is just the right distance from the main town. It is peaceful, but not secluded. There is a path that goes down to a quiet rocky beach. You can go snorkeling right there. The house has a view of the ocean, and sometimes, the mountain top. The ad for the house does not list all the amenities. There are Boogie boards, snorkeling equipment, beach chairs, and coolers in the garage. All rooms, and the lanai have ceiling fans. It stays a very nice temperature. The downstairs queen bedroom has a TV and a table and chairs. There are flowering trees in the yard. They smell great. My kids picked a coconut and cracked it open. Green ones are easiest to get open. There is a lot to see and do on the island. I would highly recommend snorkeling, surfing, the black sand beach, a luau, the waterfalls. We ran out of time to do all we wanted to do. It was fun!
