We travelled from the UK to a wedding in Atlanta and wanted to finish off our trip with a stay in the North Georgia mountains where we could unwind. Fernleaf Cottage was the perfect answer. It is cozily furnished and very comfortable. Although the cottage is situated in woodland, it is minutes from everything you could want in Hiawassee – good restaurants (Michaelees), supermarket (Ingles), banks and the cinema. Its location is also perfect for visiting the local sites such as Brasstown Bald, Anna Ruby Falls and the Creek Valley Vineyards. Being the end of March, it was sadly a bit too chilly to sit on the porch although one evening when it was warmer, we managed to stay outside until the sun set. When the sun came out in the mornings we used to lean on the rail outside with our tea (well, we are English!) and watch the stunningly beautiful birds and the mischievous antics of the squirrels. Staying early in the year did, of course, give us the advantage of being able to see the beautiful lake through the bare branches of the trees. We were fortunate to meet Shelagh who was really friendly and helpful. We just wish that Fernleaf Cottage wasn’t over 4,000 miles away from home, otherwise we’d be back to stay as often as we could.

Yes, we wish this was our home also! Perfect location and affordable prices. We fell in love with the town of Hiawassee. Warm and friendly people, great restaurants, and awesome views found nowhere else! Nor will you find a more centralized location!!! We went to the Chatuge Lake Dam, High Shoal Falls and Minnehaha Falls, Foxfire Appalachian Museum, Black Rock Mtn. State Park, Smith Lake at Unicoi State Park, and even little Cupid Falls in Young Harris. All within 30-45 minutes! The weather was the only thing that stopped us from also going to Brasstown Bald and Vogel State Park. There's also Anna Ruby Falls and Duke Creek Falls that we've been to before. When the weather didn't cooperate, we enjoyed taking walks around this beautiful upscale neighborhood on the lake. Too cold to sit outside in the evenings so we watched movies on the free HBO movie channels also provided! Thanks Shelagh. We will be back!

We would highly recommend this cottage. The listing was very accurate, photos don't do the cottage justice. The decor and amenities were great. We were able to enjoy the screened in porch every afternoon after our cool fall mornings. Property was very clean. Our miniature schnauzer enjoyed being able to romp in the yard. The good Lord willing we hope to be able to return again. Enjoyed all the scenery and the small town shopping plus many good restaurants.

I'm a bit nostalgic for the mountains — my family and I used to camp in the Smokeys when I was growing up. My wife however, requires more creature comforts than camping tends to afford. Fernleaf Cottage offered us the best of both worlds — indoors and outdoors. The photos do not give this cottage due justice — It's is beautifully decorated, clean and relaxing with all of the comforts of home. In fact, you wish it WAS your home! We enjoyed our nights out on the open porch with a million stars, a few glasses of wine and one collective awe. We fully recommend this property and will definitely be back! And Shelagh is an absolute pleasure to coordinate with.

All was exactly as described. We were there for one week and the TV was not turned on, nor did I ever sit down in the house as the porch was so comfortable. Easy access to restaurants, sightseeing and shopping. Would not hesitate to go back!

Fernleaf was everything I had hoped for. A perfect place to unwind and let life pass on by. I look forward to another stay at this wonderful place apart.

We enjoyed our cottage stay very much. The wonderful porch with cool breezes and wonderful scenery furnished a recuperative area for stressed minds and bodies.
Shelaugh went above and beyond in communicating and meeting our needs. The WiFi was gratefully appreciated.
We enjoyed the small town atmosphere - where people still are friendly and helpful! Enjoyed an evening at the Mountain music theater and had a great time. John Campbell Folk school is another great place to visit.

This property was exactly as described. The pictures really don't do it justice. This is a real "cottage" unlike all the other advertised cabins. The decor was charming, the fireplace cozy and the screened in porch begged for a relaxing evening with family. Everything was orderly and clean. We had a problem with one TV (probably our fault) and Shelagh responded within 10 minutes to make sure it worked properly. My sister from Chicago and niece from Kansas were delighted with our selection for our Fall visit. We ventured out everyday in a different direction and found antique shops, orchards, and plenty of shopping. I would most certainly recommed this property to anyone wanting a quiet and beautiful place to get away and relax. I certainly hope we can return again next year.
