Pretty from afar, but upon close inspection...
Either the pictures were taken a few years back, or the professional who took them did an amazing job doctoring them up. On the surface, everything looked as it should upon our arrival (although the driveway is among the steepest I've ever seen and not for the faint of heart). But as the days wore on, the list of things that were sub-par grew, to the point where we all agreed in the end that this house did not live up to expectations.
Overall, the house was poorly cleaned. The floors/rugs had definitely not been swept/vacuumed. While the kitchen was nice and large, it is very poorly stocked and what was in the cupboards was not in good shape. Small appliances were either in poor working condition or non-existent- save the coffee machine which thankfully worked as it should. For a house with 5 bedrooms, you'd expect cooking pots etc and plateware for a large number of guests. Not so. Also, the cupboards themselves were utterly filthy. Generally the whole kitchen felt grimy as a result. The "bar area" was useless, as the barfridge was broken. As for BBQ cooking, we were supplied with a brand new BBQ when we realized that the one that was onsite didnt work (and was being held up with beer cans). It was supplied to us fairly promptly, as was a new propane for the oven/stove, so that was good.
The bedroom and bathroom set up was not ideal. There is one bathroom on the main living floor, but this is only accessible through the one bedroom. If you wanted to keep this bedroom private, then you had a flight of stairs to use a toilet. Secondly, the "bedroom" with 2 single beds does not have a door- it is open to the hallway and upstairs living space, so I don't really know that its correct to call it a bedroom. The screen doors all had very poor tracking systems, so everytime you went to open them, it was a 2 hand operation in which you struggled to get the screen open or shut. There were cockroaches seen on multiple occasions. While I am aware in the tropics this is normal, the fact that the house itself was untidy didnt help the feeling that these insects were attracted by the filth.
The couches in the main living space must be a couple decades old. They are falling apart and are not particularly comfortable. The beds themselves were comfortable and the linens were clean, although there were some obvious stains on towels and bedsheets which I thought a bit much.
On the positive side, the upper deck does have an amazing view, and the neighborhood is very nice.
