Wonderful Experience at Casita Colibri

Review Submitted: February 19, 2008 Date of Stay: February 2008
This condo was perfect for our visit to Sedona. Dana is a great person to work with - she's very flexible and notifies you if there is a problem beforehand. We enjoyed our stay in Sedona and experienced it to the fullest - climbing, hiking, etc. Each night before turning in we got into the jacuzzi and didn't want to get out. The skies are so clear that while you're immersed in the hot water you can look up and see lots of constellations. The bed is comfy and fluffy and after our dip it was like heaven to fall into. The home is well stocked with pots and pans and utensils (even a rice cooker). As vegetarians, we appreciated the thought. We shopped at the health food store (great one nearby) and ate many of our meals at home. If you arrive at night, it's best to have a flashlight handy to find the house key as Sedona has a "low light" policy (better to see the stars with) and it's pretty dark there by the jacuzzi (there's a Walgreens nearby if you need one). All in all, our experience was great. We'd definitely rent again. If you're going to Sedona, this is the place to stay. There are lots of birds (buy birdseed and watch them flock in) and sometimes javalinas but as much as we wanted to see one, we didn't! There are trails nearby, the beautiful red rocks and lots of great places to try new and exciting foods (Wildflower Bread Company is the best for breakfast). We'd highly recommend Sedona, the casita and the experience.
Owner's Response: There is an outdoor light set to come on at dark. But if the light switch gets turned to the off position inside, it can be dark by the front door! Hopefully, guests will leave the light switch up, even though that seems counterintuitive, it might waste electiricty, it won't. The auto sensor/timer will keep it off during the day. There is also a flashlight outside in the bench on the patio by the front door and flashlights inside that you may take with you. See our Welcome Letter for details.

Nice place but a Condo not a Villa

Review Submitted: May 22, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
Stayed at this property for the week of 5/9/09 to 5/16/09 and it was a very nice CONDO not a villa as it was listed on Homeaway. On my initial search for a vacation rental using Homeaway I had intentionally excluded condo's on the search because we like our privacy. We were a bit disappointed that we did not get the villa (private home) we had expected but were in a condo unit with 2 other apartments which were very close and we felt we had no privacy. We could hear everyone's conversations as I am sure they could here ours. I had also expected to cook on the BBQ grill, which was listed on the site, for most of our dinners but found that there were 3 community grills located in the courtyard and they were very dirty or unusable.

We thought the inside of the condo was very comfortable and furnished very nicely. The Red Rock pass that was provided came in very handy as we hiked everyday. We loved the location of the condo. It was a very quite area. If you are looking for a nice 1 bedroom condo to rent this is it. We just wish it would have been listed properly on the site as a Condo rather than a Villa.
Owner's Response: Given the European use of the word, "villa," I can see how the term may be confusing to some people. In Arizona and Florida, the term "villa" or "casita" commonly refers to one story buildings similar to townhouses or a duplex. We'd like to clarify what it is like and what it is not. This property is not like a big box condo or apartment building. There are only three casitas and there is a private yard/patio.

It is like the casitas at Enchantment resort only with larger rooms, in-town location, a private spa tub on a private patio, and only one shared wall.

Yes, it may be possible to hear other people when you are outside and they are too. We have never heard anyone when inside.

As for the grill, we are clear in all our paperwork that the grills are shared and that if anything at the casita is not in top condition, we should be notified so we may correct the problem. We would gladly have cleaned the grill the day the request was made, but we were not made aware of it until this review was posted.

To be consistent with our eco-conscious values, we chose to share many pieces of equipment for this property, including the grills. Most months there is a local "no burn order" - meaning you cannot have a fire, so having a private grill for just a few weeks a year seem a bit conspicuous. And we respect people who make a different choice.

Lastly, please note the guests booked for the minimum required stay required by the City of Sedona and left early.

Awesome Trip

Review Submitted: September 21, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2008
My husband and I got back yesterday from a 20th wedding aniversary trip to this special casita. From the moment we arrived we felt instantly at home. The casita has everything you could possible need and is beautifully decorated . The king bed was extra comfy and the new wood sink in the bathroom with the mexican sink is gorgeous.
We loved the quiet location, the easy access to main roads and the variety of grocery stores all within easy drive. The casita also has tons of information on local things to do, books on hiking trails and movies and cds . We will most definitely return .
Dana was especially helpful with emails and local information.

It is "eco luxury," just as they advertise. Accurate description? It was better than described. We're coming back again.

This was the perfect retreat after a day of hiking and exploring Sedona and red rock country. The casita was professionally cleaned, very comfortable, located in a quiet neighborhood but close enough to all Sedona offers.
