Cozy Get-Away!

Re- Central Michigan
Review Submitted: February 16, 2010 Date of Stay: February 2010
This cozy cabin was exactly what we expected after seeing pictures. It was very clean and had a touch of comfort! The towels and flannel sheets smelled so good, an added bonus compared to a hotel's towels and sheets! The fireplace heated the cabin and added to the coziness. We were aprehensive about the hottub since it was under 10 degrees outside. But once we got in, it felt wonderful. To breathe in the cool crisp air while relaxing in a bubbling warm water, it actually warmed us up! The Christmas lights were nice and the view was great! My husband & I really needed this get away to spend some time alone without the interuptions of every day life. We went into Traverse City and ate at Olive Garden which is awlays awesome & we also made a trip to the Turtle Creek Casino. It was a nice casino and I liked that it was not too busy. We played the slots and had many to choose from. We shopped the outlets and mall for a little bit and then we couldn't wait to get back to our cabin! The cabin was close to town yet we were in the country and away form the busy city life! My husband & I enjoyed our stay and can not wait to come back. We may make this a yearly winter break! Many times since we have been home we have referred to the cabin wishing we were there again. Very comfortable, cozy, romantic & relaxing retreat. Thank You!!!

Owner's Response: We know some people have to have a "hotel room" - but what a bonus for those who don't !! Having your own little log cabin to "call you home ' is something you willl never know when you stay at a hotel. Having your own private hot tub on your screened in porch, even with single digit temps - is something you can never experience at a "hotel". And as I always say.. the colder and nastier the weather.. the better the hot tub feels ! " Don't wait for the storm to pass, learn to dance in the rain ! " Kathy

We had so much fun !

Review Submitted: February 12, 2010 Date of Stay: January 2010
An entry from the journal used with permission - We had so much fun on our weekend getaway here ! What a relaxing little nook in the woods you have ! We explored the shops downtown and had crab cake sandwiches ( which rocked the house ! ) at the Peninsula Grill on the Old Mission Peninsula. You were right, the drive was totally worth it ! On our way out of town we are stopping at the Grand Traverse Pie Company (hope they got the cherry crumb pie). We had so much fun, thanks for everything. Your directions everywhere were very helpful. PS I love how "optional" bath suits were not only allowed but recommended :) * We'll be back * M & B

Wonderful, private getaway. We have been to Harold's Resort both with our children and without. Summer is the best time to bring the kids to enjoy the wonderful lake, beach and boat. Families can sit around a nighttime beach campfire or just wallow in in solitude. My husband and I have spent several seasons in cabin 4, each season is special; whether for the colorful leaves, the beach, or the snow. The hot tub is delightful in the winter when the snow is falling and your'e up to your shoulders in "warm."
Kathy decorates the cabins for the season and you immediately feel very welcomed and at home. She and Rolf are wonderful hosts who have anticipated all your needs. You may meet them outside, or you may go an entire weekend without ever seeing them. Somehow they seem to know whether you want to be chatty or would prefer being alone. Take a minute and seek them out; they are very friendly, engaging people. If there is anything you need they are always just a short walk away.
There is horseback riding nearby and plenty of places to walk, hike or go winter skiing. If you start going stir crazy from too much relaxation, Traverse City is not far away. There you can eat out, go shopping or catch a movie. There are some great little restaurants in town if you don't feel like cooking for yourself or grilling out. There are also a number of winerys nearby if you want to spend a day tasting the area's finest There are three casinos within an hours drive, and you might get lucky! You can spend the day on the Leelanau penninsula (drive out to the tip) and visit the great little shops or have a meal at one of the restaurants there.
So all in all, you get the best of both world's at Harold's. If you need a geat little place to just getaway from it all and relax, look no further, youv'e found it. Scott & Kim

Romantic hideaway!

Review Submitted: February 16, 2009 Date of Stay: February 2009
Just about everything's made of wood. A great getaway for romance and seclusion and sereniity. Distance from other cabins and ours was so filled with hospitality and gifts and a warm fireplace turned on waiting for us when we arrived. This is a place where you can escape and a couple can spend as long as they want alone, exploring each others minds and whatever else :) Had a kitchen, gas stove, fridge, etc. So quaint and cozy. And the fireplace really warmed the entire room. Nature trails, tubing, sight-seeing, downtown all within a short car ride...but most of all cabin was away from all that and kind of hidden away. Which we loved. Private Hot tub was completely amazing watching the stream roll off the jetted waters as cool, crisp snowy air poured into our lungs through the mesh windows all while the tub kept our bodies warm. Cool blue lighting at night by the way and clothing optional. Made the perfect setting for a steak and wine dinner which my other half absolutely loved!

Owner's Response: Winter is an especially "magical" time here in the northwoods, and for those of you who are lucky enough to have experienced it.. you know what I mean-- it can happen to you.. you can make it happen...Kathy

It was an overall great experience. Nice view of the water and the hot tub is always nice. The place was clean and the location wasn't too far from the wineries.

We enjoyed our stay at Harold's Resort. We were looking to get away from city life for a few days. The scenery was beautiful and the location was peaceful. The rustic character of the cabin made our experience that much more enjoyable. Our cabin was cozy and cute with a great view. We made good use of the hot tub and look forward to coming back again.

Harold's Resort on Spider Lake

maxsavage La Grange, IL.
Review Submitted: October 31, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
Harold's is a wonderful, quiet, rustic resort. It is perfect for those looking for a private cabin on a lake in a beautiful forested setting. We stayed at Harold's with our three kids and we all had a great time playing on the beach, kayaking, fishing, and just relaxing. Harold's is just what we look for in a vacation cabin, a getaway from the hustle and bustle. Harold's is only a short drive to Sleeping Bear Dunes and the Manitou Islands. Traverse City is also nearby with all of it's attractions.

We found this place on the web late Friday evening. We drove four hours and arrived at 1am. It was well worth the drive, we had a great time chilling out in the beautiful surroundings, the most strenuous thing we did was take a boat out for the day. There were loads of things we could have done but "chilling out" was our highest priority. Would well recommend this place to all! Was all we hoped the Lakes in the states would be.

In Heaven

cabin 7 Harrison Township, MI
Review Submitted: September 19, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
We would have to say Best vacation yet!

The cabin was so cozy! The tree's with all of their beauty made us feel like we were in a different state, yet only 5hrs away from home!

When we made breakfast, the bacon cooking mixing with the fresh cool air, well you just can't beat that combination!
Smells soooooo good!

The wild life! Wild Turkeys running down the side of the road. The Deer that came up to our kitchen window and driveway! We are going to enlarge the picture and frame it, that is how beautiful and perfect it came out! Chipmunks running around! Birds of all kinds!

Downtown, all of the gift shops, the Fudge was delicious ! Horse and Carriage going down the streets and Great Resturants with good food! 30 minutes away from the big malls, Casino's 20 minutes away!

The owner's Kathy and Rolf were just great! Could not beat their Hospitality! Went the extra mile!

The cabin had everything you needed and I do mean everything! Extra comforters, blankets ,pillows. Dishes of all kinds, pots and pans, glasses, cups, coffee maker, toaster. There was even a afagan on the sofa, pitcher for Ice tea or lemonade!

We loved the screened in porch, Since we had to bring our work with us, the porch was great! We could work and smoke out on the porch at the same time and still feel like we were outside!

The gas fire place came in handy when it was cold a couple of mornings, it made us toasty warm in minutes!

Everything was soooo neat and clean ! Just beautiful!

The lake is absolutely Beautiful, we had a blast catching Bass and perch in the row boat. Also, loved the pontoon boat, when we just wanted to go around the lake, or beach the pontoon on one of the secluded islands on the lake. So relaxing!

The beach had volley ball, toys for little ones, lounge chairs to relax and catch some sun ! A huge inner tube out in the lake to swim out to, also to use as a land mark so we could find our way back when we were out in the boat! Also great fire pit with lots of chairs all around it!

The only draw back we see is, If some people have bad knees or heart problems,They would have to walk down the stairs to get to the beach, lake, and fire pit! This may be a problem for some people! Other than that, I would highly recommend Harold's to everyone I know, that is how much we truly enjoyed it!

Thank You! Kathy and Rolf , you made it very enjoyable and memorable for us! If all goes well, We will most likely see you next year!

Much-needed rejuvenation before end of summer

SarahKalamazoo Kalamazoo, MI
Review Submitted: September 2, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
I received an email from HomeAway on Wednesday, booked our spot on Thursday and took off after work on Friday for a wonderful Labor Day mini-vacation.

My partner and I had not gotten away at all this summer and I was feeling like I hadn't taken advantage of Michigan's beauty with our 3-year-old. I am due to have another baby in December and recently became panicky that vacations might not be so easy for a while. When we received this notice and Harold's looked like exactly our kind of place, I knew we had to go.

It was perfect! The weather was hot so frolicking in the lake was exactly what we did. Our preschooler could goof around by herself out quite far in the sandy shallows AND Spider Lake was warm enough for the grown-ups to be out there with her floating and spashing (very different from our frigid day trips to Lake Michigan this summer). It was the perfect calm swimming spot for her to practice blowing bubbles and floating on her back.

My favorite part about Harold's had to be that there was no TV! Our daughter only gets to watch an hour or so of PBS anyway but it was so great to not have that option. My partner and I went to bed early without the temptation of CNN and ESPN and everyone came away SO well-rested!

While we lazed about each morning having breakfast and our morning caffeine, she goofed around out front of the cabin waiting patiently for everyone to don their swimsuits. We hit the beach early each morning. She loved the "treehouse", Between the sand (making rocky pizzas) and the water (the kissing shark!), there was so much for her to do that we ran out of time and will have to get our rowboat ride in next time. There will be a next time!

I am a backcountry hiker/camper while my partner likes the more refined things in life like clean toilets and beds (the sheets and duvet are so comfy and the whole place was so clean!). Harold's was the PERFECT combination for our little family!

Owner's Response: Over our 19 years here, we have considered putting a Cable TV' in each Cabin. But when we hear comments like this..."Our favorite thing was "No TV" or "Our kids didn't even ask for the TV once" ! or "We went the whole week and no one noticed there was No TV" ! This means the families here are spending quality time, fishing, swimming, bon fires, playing games.. just like "in the good ole days" and that is our goal.. to bring you back to "the good ole days" when families spent time doing the simple things in life - together ! Kathy
