woodland wonder

Wonderful house in a pristine, secluded forest area. Short hiking trails right out the back door. Pet friendly beaches no more than 10 minutes away. House and kitchen have everything for an extended stay. IF not, owner is in adjacent house through a wooded path only about 200 yards away.

Better Than Expected

I've never so much as stayed in a bed-and-breakfast before, and always wondered if I would feel uncomfortable invading someone else's personal space. When I learned my best friend was holding her son's wedding in her East Hampton back yard - Labor Day weekend, no less - I knew this was going to be an expensive, but "must go" situation. There were 5 in our party, ranging in ages from 21 to 87, and every one of us enjoyed ourselves immensely in this spacious, comfy, welcoming home........and I personally enjoyed every minute spent there either inside or outside. I love the woods of that area anyway, and always go on long walks when I visit, and this property is perfect for that.

The two best memories I have are my morning coffee sitting in one of the adirondack chairs on the brick terrace, listening to the birds and swishing of the trees...and choosing books from the incredible library to read each night (but darn the Owner for getting me hooked on the first volume of the Page Smith chronicles on the American Revolution!). We lit a fire in the fireplace the night of arrival and relaxed with a cold beer, glad to have finally landed after the prior four days city hopping in Philly & NYC. My son and his girlfriend rode their bikes to Sag Harbor or East Hampton most days --- just because they could, and the sight of deer moms and their new fawns never got old. I have been to the area many times in the past 10-15 years, but always stayed with my friend, but our party was too large for her to accomodate.

The owner handled one little bit of confusion for us swiftly, and could not have been nicer. We would love to go back to this home for years to come.....in fact my husband wished there had been an option of their retaining our deposit just for that purpose!

And when can one go on vacation and slay a personal dragon at once? For me it was sleeping through the night for the first time in years......I'm sure it was because of the pure peace and quiet coupled with all the fresh air......worth every penny and more.

This is a great space for families of any size and age --- with everyone able to expect a fun and fantastic vacation.

NYC Family of Four

We were very happy with this rental from start to finish. The owner was very easy to deal with. The house was very well prepared for a rental. The house was totally clean light switches were labeled, bathrooms were stocked with newly wrapped soap small bottles of shampoo and conditioner plenty of clean towels throughout the house. The bedrooms had firm beds with plenty of blankets if needed.
The screened in porch was airy and very comfortable.
The owner stopped by our first daqy to welcome us and to give us a full binder of local amenities ,beaches and entertainment.
We have rented many houses throughout the years and we felt that this was the nicest house that we have stayed in.
Owner's Response: It makes us happy when our visitors are happy, so we try hard to give you a carefree vacation. We often rent houses away from home, ourselves, and we know what a big difference it makes when you can settle in quickly and start having fun right away!

Casual elegance, by far the best Hamptons rental

RTBT Bergen County, NJ
Review Submitted: July 15, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
When we visit a town as unique as East Hampton, we want to stay in a place that is equally unique. Tom and Judith’s East Hampton “Cottage” is such a place and surpasses every other house we have ever rented. From the time you enter the long winding drive, and approach the beautiful English cottage gardens, you’ll immediately feel the warmth, grace, and charm of the East Hampton lifestyle in a way that no luxury hotel could ever do. Having six-year old triplets is a daunting task and taking them to upscale hotels and fine restaurants is not something that is practical or affordable; nor is it interesting to them, which is our primary concern. So, for the past few years, we’ve chosen to rent a house, where the children could do all of the things they are used to doing…a “home away!” My wife and I met and fell in love in East Hampton and this truly unique “slice of heaven” holds fond memories for us both. So it is only fitting that we introduce our children to this “paradise.” While we have been disappointed with previous rentals that are less than clean with cheap furnishings, Tom and Judith’s house is truly a home and what you see online…well, that’s just the tip of the iceberg. A beautifully flowing interior with generously proportioned bedrooms, all appointed in a casually elegant style. A beautiful country kitchen and a pantry stocked with all of the things you would need (mixing bowls, plastic wrap…nothing has been overlooked). From the handcream at the kitchen sink; shampoo, conditioner and soap in every bath; ample linens and great mattresses, you will immediately sense that these are kind people that truly care about their guests and treat them as “family.” I had the pleasure of meeting with Tom (Judith was away during our stay), who cared about our comfort and is just a great guy! This is not a typical “rental” property – it is clearly a cherished home. We felt privileged to visit and are grateful to the owners for their gracious hospitality, genuine concern and kindness.

My husband and I were very pleased with our week stay. The house was quite comfortable and relaxing. The solitude was a welcome respite from the days of touring. Judith and Tom's attention to detail made us feel right at home. We will definitely return and have told friends and relatives about the this lovely property.

Perfect House for Us

Allen and Mary Asheville, NC, United States
Review Submitted: May 4, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
We came up to East Hampton to celebrate my 60th birthday and see old friends. I had lived in East Hampton for 25 yrs. and left in 2001.
This house was absolutely PERFECT for us!

- the house is set back on several acres adjacent to the East Hampton Northwest Woods trail system, so we were able to hike and walk the dog and explore the only area that has not been changed by development since the time of the indians! (I remembered it well from cross country skiing the trails years ago) The only sounds we heard were birds and the wind in the pine trees. Several Trail Maps were provided and the trails are well marked and maintained by the town for hiking or mountain biking.

- the location was just as advertised - maybe 6 min. to Sag Harbor and 8 min. to EH Village but set back on a quiet road in the woods where you don't hear any traffic.

- we love to cook, and we entertained friends for dinner several times. Everything that we could possibly need was found in the kitchen or large pantry: coffee grinder, steamers, lobster pots, serving dishes, etc. It was like being home, or even better once we located everything.

- the setup worked well for the weekend that we had our 6 guests and also when we were alone. Several spaces in the house for hanging out together, or some alone quiet time with a book. (the house has hundreds of books in the library covering many literarty styles and subjects)

- the house is well maintained and clean with 'top shelf'' shampoo and soaps provided and the linens and towels were of good quality. The owners seem to genuinely care that everything is in tip-top shape and that you enjoy your stay. (a welcome change in this world where most people are just trying to make a profit)

In short, nothing was lacking and all we had to do was shop for food and relax.
We loved our stay and would definitely come back again.
Thanks for a great vacation.

Well Kept Secret in East Hampton

RanFam SE Ohio
Review Submitted: January 14, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2008
Who could imagine that a summer rental would also be a perfect winter destination? Our family, which consists of parents and adult children, spent an amazing Christmas week in this delightful home!

We had plenty of room for playing board games on the expansive coffee table in the main living area. The dining room comfortably held seven adults for many joyful hours of family meals followed by lengthy discussions at the table. The sleeping rooms were just what we'd hoped for - restful and quiet. The entire house is well cared for and inviting - the owners were kind and always considerate of our comfort and well-being.

But the area of the home that seemed to draw each family member to it, on various occasions, was the library. We each found the library to be a place of solitude - an oasis for getting away from the family hustle and bustle for a bit. Whether it was to read the newspaper with a cup of coffee in the morning, listen to music on an ipod, or enjoy a book from the ample collection - the library was a favorite spot for our family. The library window provides a beautiful view of the winter landscape, including a pond. It's a "picture perfect" vista!

I must mention that one of the most hospitable things we discovered is that the owners of this lovely vacation home actually welcome pets and we're very grateful. Our family dogs and their "people" loved the wooded trails and paths.

In thinking back, it occurs to me that this vacation home has everything a family might need or want. It's truly a hidden secret for the area. I hope your family will enjoy it as much as ours did. Now that we've found it, we hope to return very soon!

Wonderful Hamptons Vacation

J&B and family Great Neck, NY
Review Submitted: January 14, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2008
We have spent two summers in this house and can’t wait to go back for a third this summer. It is warm and wonderful and perfect for our family. The house is very spacious and everything is in great condition. Both the owner and caretaker are delightful people. The owners made some great structural and decorative improvements last summer. We love that the house is in the woodsy area yet close to the beaches and both “downtown” East Hampton and Sag Harbor. We’ve been renting in the Hamptons for a number of years and this house is surely the BEST. We’re looking forward to spending time in this house for many more years to come.

We stayed in this charming home for one month last summer. It was the perfect summer getaway because it is very private, but also close to town and beach. The owners are extremely accomodating and lovely to deal with.

We highly recommend this home.
