This cottage is the perfect escape for those Chicagoans looking for some quality down time but who aren't up for a long road trip or airlines. Sitting just a tad past the Illinois-Wisconsin border, the trip was under two hours for us (departing from Schaumburg IL).

The owner keeps the cottage extremely tidy and one cannot help but feel a sense of home on entering. It has all the feature comforts of a full blown house: laundry room, full kitchen with oven, microwave, cooking utensils, etc. There is a flat screen TV and small stereo system. The bathroom is stocked with linens and towels.

The lake tends to bustle during the day but the neighborhood was very peaceful at night. The fire pit was great to use during the cool nights we were there.

There is a full sized grocery store within minutes of the place (so it is easy and convenient to stock up for the afternoon barbeque). Downtown Waterford is also very close by. It's a small town but there are a number of restaurants for those nights one wants to head out.

I would say the cabin is ideal for a couple's getaway. We were very charmed by the cottage and would definitely go there again. The owner has done an excellent job in making it feel like a home away from home. There is not a sterile, bland feeling one would get from a hotel or generic furnished place. We highly recommend this property to couples and families with young children.
