we loved our DC trip

This house is in a very convenient, quiet and safe neighborhood. It is about 7 blocks to the Easter Market metro but only 5 from the Potomac where there is a great grocery store, Harris and Teeters. The house was well equipped but very old and a bit musty, certainly nothing fancy. The master bed was only a double. It was great to be able to eat there even though the stores and shops are very close. The house also has internet which isn't advertised on the web page. I would recommend this to my friends who aren't afraid of a little extra walking and don't require 5 star lodging.

We were looking for a reasonably priced place to stay over our spring break with my husband, myself and our 3 kids. the location was fine-and the unit itself was ok. we werent as concerned with luxury for this vacation as we were with price. so, the price was good for the 2BR. I guess i wouldnt be writing this review other than the fact that about 3 weeks later i received my security deposit back minus 35- for what they claimed was a stained rug ($25 to clean) and a stained washcloth ($10). As for the rug, i dont remember much for floor coverings in the unit, but when i look back at pictures i see there was a small rug under a coffee table, so i am assuming that is what they meant. i disputed this stain with the owner, but its his word against mine so i will learn my lesson and check things out a bit more carefully when i rent and perhaps take pictures. the place was not furnished with new furnishings, so if there was a stain i believe it had already been there, and when you rent a lower priced unit i dont expect perfection, so if there was a stain i truly believe it had been there. as for the $10 washcloth, neither i nor my daughter wear makeup and i personally pulled all the towels and washclothes while we were cleaning up, and i know we did not have a stained one. i told the owner that they should do away with white towels if they want to minimize further staining. no brainer! these were not $10 washcloths so i feel this charge was excessive. i guess its the principle of being charged for 2 things that i know we did not do that bothers me. if yu are looking to rent this place, make sure you take your own pictures or call the owner and have him physically check the condition of the place before you even unpack. the place was rented to us as sleeping 7; there were 3 plates and 3 cups in the cupboard. on the third day after i called the owner went to another units and i carried more plates into our unit from one next door. i didnt complain about this, but merely feel that this should have been addressed before our arrival by the maid. there were 5 full size towels and i never called about that because we had 5 people, but the unit claims to sleep 7 so i feel there should have been 7 towels. renting here will be sufficient for you if you dont mind not being in a super clean place and if you dont want to use the oven (very tight kitchen). just beware of them withholding $ from security dep. that you rightfully should get back.
Owner's Response: Renter contacted us about the $35 withheld, we notified her that the cleaning person takes pictures of any damages, and asked her if she would like to view the pictures. She refused to see the pictures, and refuses to take responsibility for her damages which were documented!! As she stated everything was fine with her stay and the unit!!! Cleaner views all units before renting, and takes pics of any damage afterwards! Regarding dishes missing, they had been moved by previous tenant and not replaced, when I was notified, the problem was immediately corrected! Bottomline here, we are not a company doing this for a living, only a family renting a vacant house, you must be responsible when renting with us, WE ARE VERY FAIR!!!!

Not badly located but very poor service

Location is ok. House could be charming but is old, not completley clean when we arrived. One bed was broken, as well as the fan.
Kitchens are very basic.
On the top of that we did not get our deposit back for no reason.
I would not recomment this house to friends.
Owner's Response: This renter was sent her full deposit back on or about 2/26/09 well within the rental agreement timeline (check #1405, and has since been cashed) The renter stayed at the location and never voiced a concern or complaint to us of any concerns, nothing was ever brought to our attention! The property was built in the early 1900's but has gone through numerous upgrades and does not look anywhere near its age. She did not call to ask how to operate the fan, nor did she mention any issue with any bed. Any current issue has been resolved with this unit!

Property was very clean. Great location close to Metro and grocery store. Good neighborhood.

Sofas were not in great shape. Combination washer/dryer had a small leak. When dryer was operating, it would trip the breaker. Kitchen was not well stocked with utensils and pots. Manual can opener was so worn out, it would not work. Only one stove burner worked properly. Coffee pot was not the original pot that came with the coffee maker. Pot was too short and could not push up the spring mechanism under the drip basket to allow coffee to drip into the pot, so coffee went all over the counter.

One night, the cold water valve handle in the shower came off. Water was shooting out the broken piping and splashing all over the bathroom. My husband was able to close a valve under the house to stop the leak. Contacted owner. He could not fix the leak so he allowed us to use the shower in an adjacent unoccupied unit. Plumber fixed the problem the next day while we were out sightseeing.

I found the correct coffee pot in the unoccupied unit so I swapped it out. Also found that kitchen overstocked with pots and pans and the eating utensils that matched those in the unit we were renting. It appeared as though someone must have rented both downstairs units and ended up with most of the kitchen stuff in that unit. It would be a good idea for the owner to ensure each unit is properly stocked before each renter arrives.
Owner's Response: This renter, notified us of the water problem, and I came over right away! A handy man came out to service the newly replaced faucet while they were there as well as a appliance serviceman to make her a satisfied client!! Some sofas have since been replaced as some renters are causing things to have to be replaced more often. The washer/dryer had been serviced! The previous renter had both units and moved some of the kitchen items around including the coffee pot, they have since been replaced as well as the can opener! Any issues mentioned have been resolved!

Better Than A Hotel

DC Tourist Belleville, IL

We stayed the week of june 20-29. It was very nice and enjoyed the upper apartment. But because the home can be split be sure to specify what your needs are. Example, our unit did not have a washer/dryer but that was ok for us.
Another thing, it is not three blocks to the eastern metro. It is much closer to 7 blocks(eastern metro is at 8 th st and Kentucky is one block past 13th). A nice safe walk but still not three blocks. All in all very nice.

We stayed for a week in one of the bottom apartments. It was very clean and neat when we got there. Lots of room for our family of 4. (they have the TV in the living room which would be the only down fall,..we like one in the bedroom too) it is between 2 of the metrorails (Eastern and Potomac) so easy walk to it. So close to all of the DC things to do... You dont need a car the metro goes everywhere. The grocery store was about 2 blocks away. Very friendly neighborhood. Lots of places to eat within a walking distance. You get a great deal here!! Nice, affordable, like staying in your own place. I recommend this to everyone!
