My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the cottage. We found it to be very relaxing and simply enjoyed the sights and sounds of the lake. The cottage was very clean and we liked the bedroom themes. Comfortable beds with plenty of room for adults and children. The lake did have weeds in it but we weren't expecting to swim as it was noted that the lake was not a swimming lake. We were able to catch several fish off the dock. We found some unique shops in town and had an excellent lunch at Underwood. We also built a campfire and made s'mores which was great fun. We would definitely recommend the location to our friends.

My father and I visited the cottage on the recomendation of a friend, As the lake information says this is not a swiming lake. But we rented the cottage with intentions of catching some of the lakes bass and northern. With the help from my friends who live close by and were nice enough to show us a few of there secrets we were able to catch some really nice large mouth late in the week. ( 2.5- 5lbs). This is a very weedy lake and to all bass fishermen I strongly recomend a stiff rod and heavy braided line, as we started with monofiliment and found the bass will break off in the weed beds. We found with heavy braided line we could horse them out of the weeds easily. I did loose a realy nice northern about a mile up in the river but we found the northern sizes fairly small. The cottage is EXTREMELY NICE and was very comfortable, and also was stocked with more ammeneties than expected. The owners were also extremely nice and helpful. The wisconsin dells was only 35miles and the local town of montello was really nice. I would recomend this secluded cottage to anyone who loves to fish and wants a quiet getaway from the rat race of every day life, I look forward to returning next year.

Girls Weekend

Review Submitted: December 3, 2008 Date of Stay: November 2008
In November I met with 5 high school friends at Hummingbird Cottage. What a great place for a girls getaway! There are plenty of beds for everyone. The cottage is so clean and homey. With a full kitchen, we were able to potluck our meals instead of going out all of the time. Fabulous shopping in the area. I would have never guessed! Check out Ripon, Princeton and Montello.
I can't wait to for next year when we meet at Hummingbird Cottage once again.

Family Fun

Our family, which includes 3 children, had a wonderful time at the Hummingbird Cottage (we actually saw a hummingbird hovering around the flowers in the front of the house). There was so much to do, we never had a reason to leave the cottage. There was a beautiful view of the lake and the changing colors, and it was very secluded and quiet. Our hosts were extremely gracious and put forth a great deal of effort with the little details to make sure our stay was as comfortable as possible. We would, without hesitation recommend this cottage to all our friends.

Wonderful Retreat

Review Submitted: August 8, 2007 Date of Stay: August 2007
We enjoyed our visit to this property very much. We did not expect to swim in the lake as it states on the website that it is good for fishing but is not a swimming lake. There was no shortage of "fishing fun" and the house was immaculate. If only the rain had stayed away - but we found plenty of activities in the house to keep us busy. We did go into one of the small towns nearby for a nice lunch and to spend some time in the quaint stores there.
I would definitely recommend this property to others who are looking for a relaxing, peaceful spot to enjoy fishing fun, or cruising on a lake.

My family and I had a wonderful time! My two nieces along with my dad and sister had a great time fishing! It is just a great get-away from city life. It is very peaceful!

I would also recommend the restaurants Underwood and the Stone Cutter in Montello if you like soup and sandwiches or pizza"Yummy" along with checking out the antique store and the candy store!

I would go back in a heart beat!

Great vacation place

We stayed at the Hummingbird Cottage during the month of June. It was everything the owner stated and then some. As the owner clearly stated on the site
"This is a fishing lake, not for swimming" we were prepared with our fishing poles in hand. We caught a few crappies and shared in some great family memories. The owner was also kind enough to rent his pontoon boat which we thorougly enjoyed. The sunsets were beautiful and after sleeping in the "up north" themed room we were awakened in the morning to the sound of the soulful loons. We were able to also visit the city of Princeton. It is about 30 minutes away and has many quaint shops and splendid restaurants. This was truly a family vacation we will remember for years to come and would recommend to our friends.

The cottage was very nice. Extremely clean and wonderfully decorated. The owners provided for almost everything. We could have used a wider variety of pots and pans. We were EXTREMELY disappointed in the lake. We were planning to swim and were told upon arrival that the lake was a fishing lake. This is NOT stated in the information listed on the website for this listing. It is so green and weedy it needs to be mowed weekly. When the mowing takes place the air smells of stagnant water. Not very pleasant. This is not shown in any of the pictures advertising the cottage. Also, it does not state that there is no swimming on the lake.
