I can't think of enough superlatives to describe this wonderful apartment. It's absolutely beautiful....sort of like living in a fine home while on vacation. The furnishings are very tasteful and the bedroom is enormous. The bathroom is attractive and efficient. Though located in the city center, it is blissfully quiet day and night. The air conditioning works very well, which was important in August. There are two front rooms, live half living rooms a small kitchen and separate attached eating area. The kitchen has a washing machine, and it's fun to hang your clothes on the clothesline out the kitchen window! An apartment of this quality would cost double this price in a major city in the US. I felt so lucky to be staying here for a whole week!

It is a great location, a five minute walk from the duomo. We had no problem walking to the train station, art galleries and sights....all very easy and close enough to walk back to the apartment to rest or take a quick nap.

The owner could not have been nicer or more helpful. Very accomodating and had excellent suggestions. Book this this place before someone else does!!!

Renting an apartment is SO much better than a hotel. The owners were welcoming and questions or concerns were promptly answered. Importantly, the beds were comfortable and the apartment well equipped There were 2 of us but you could easily have 2 couples staying. Another plus was that it was completely protected from traffic noise. The stairs were no problem good exercise! The location is truly in the center of town with a supermarket close by Plenty of clean towels and the owners had even provided water juice and milk. It wass great having internet access and lovely not having to worry about hidden costs(ie electricity or cleaning) Go to Florence and stay here.

Fabulous Apt in Florence

My husband, 13-yr old daughter and I stayed here for 4 nights in July. This is a great apartment (and I would also highly recommend La Colonica, same owners, self-catering lodge outside Cortona) - very well furnished and equipped, and the location couldn't have been better. We walked everywhere - most major sights are within a 15-20 minute walk and the neighborhood is nice to walk in. Nearby is the Mercato Sant Ambrogio - great, and the flea market - Mercato delle Pulci - very quaint by day, and by night, folks spilling onto streets from one of the cafes. One of our favorite restaurants in that same area is Il Pizzaiuolo (book in advance!). Great pizza and seafood pasta. Owners of La Pergola are helpful from the moment you begin to inquire and book. Would definitely stay here again and recommend to friends and family. Far superior to staying in a hotel and a much better deal.

Real Florence experience

Review Submitted: January 27, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2008
We stayed here after Christmas and over New Year to celebrate our anniversary. This is a gorgeous apartment – the sort that you always hope you will find and rarely do. As there are a number of reviews already, we will focus on the things we found important.

Making the reservation was easy. We got quick replies in perfect English to our many questions in the months leading up to our stay. The owner helped us with our museum bookings and he did not charge.

The street is one of the most historic in Florence, full of ancient palaces standing side by side much smaller buildings like the one the apartment is in. This area still has a life of its own, unusual for Florence city center. In our block there was the Accadi, a very good neighborhood favourite. We ate there several times, and we enjoyed the genuine Florentine food, the friendly service and the very moderate prices (less than 30 Euro each for a full evening meal with wine)! We do not eat lunch but they do a very good value lunch (set menu, limited choice).

We enjoyed getting to know this particular bit of Florence well – one of our great finds was the chapel of St Maria Maddalena dei Pazzi, up the street. This is almost impossible to spot unless you are looking for it – there is just an ordinary street door, but when you go in, there is a perfect cloister with garden, the gorgeous church itself, and the mural by Perugino. We went to the New Year Mass there and it was an experience that we will never forget.

We shopped a lot at the open-air market (Ambrogio) and enjoyed going back to the same stalls to get our produce and being recognized! There is a supermarket much nearer which we used occasionally. I went to the local hair stylist and we both went to the local coffee bars and enjoyed them. People were friendly and good humoured. The other people in the apartment building were Florentines and were friendly and welcoming when we met them on the stairs. That made a real difference and we felt we really did make contact with the people.

We loved this apartment and what the other reviewers stay is true: it is very clean, very well maintained, very well furnished, well-decorated, perfect for sightseeing etcetc.!!! Two big negatives: the apartment is not at all suitable for young children or for anyone with mobility issues. Our stay in Florence, not just this apartment, but the whole experience, was magical. We had such a good time.

Our Home in Firenze

We were pleased with every aspect of this beautiful apartment. It is well designed and furnished and the location couldn't be better. We stayed for a week and used it as our base for walking tours in the old city areas of Florence. We never needed public transportation although it is conveniently available down the street. Also nearby are supermarkets as well as an internet center and many restaurants, cafes and gelato shops. We did not need the air conditioning but did use the heat on a couple of chilly mornings. The washing machine was a welcome amenity and we hung our laundry out to dry in the sunshine. All three of us are over 60 years old and we had no problem with the stairs. We met a couple of friendly and personable neighbors and became regulars at a cafe a few doors down. The place is very quiet and security was never an issue.

good base in Florence

We stayed in this apartment a week ago. We picked it because of the reviews on this site, so here is ours.
This is a centrally located place - no need for public transport. Everything is within walking distance. There are some small inner city buses passing about 100 yards from the apartment. We did not use them.
We picked an apartment because we wanted to cook and eat in - the kitchen is well-equipped but small. There is a good sized dining area leading off the kitchen. We shopped almost exclusively at Sant Ambrogio market which is not far off - it is cheaper than the central market, and less people.
The apartment (particularly the bedroom) is very quiet - that was a big plus.
We did not find the stairs a problem but it is not suitable for those with mobility-impairment.
The apartment is extremely well-ventilated (we did not use the air-conditioning, which we do not like).
As for the rest, I agree with the other reviews. The apartment is very well decorated, and well maintained. It was good to have this as a place as a base. Overall judgment - This was a good experience and offered value for the money.

Perfect place to stay in Florence

We came upon this place by accident as we were staying in the owner's rental cottage near Cortona (paradise!). We were thinking of staying in a hotel in Florence for a few days and he mentioned that he had this apartment. It is perfect. It is in the middle of Florence but there is no noise. We stayed in early September and really appreciated the A/C. There is a little terrace - big enough for 2 - which is a big plus. This is a really elegant apartment (I would not bring young children here!) and perfect for 2 adults. It is really well designed, not an inch of space wasted. The large entrance hall is a second living room. The bedroom is huge. The living room is good and there is a really nice airy dining area attached to the kitchen. The standard of furnishing is very high and quite unlike most rental properties.
The area is great and is very central.
We only stayed for a few days but it is a real find. A great base in Florence and one we have already recommended to friends.
I forgot - the stairs! There is no elevator and this is on the fourth floor. The climb did not bother us but you need to know about them!
Very helpful owner's rep.
We are currently on sabbatical in Europe and have accumulated experience by now of rental properties. This is a real winner.

Wonderful location, apartment out of this world

We stayed here for only 3 nights and want to return sometime. This is a real gem. The apartment is in an old Florentine house, no elevator, but it is worth the climb. Total peace and quiet while outside Florence is busy, busy, busy. As for the apartment, those photos just do not do justice to the way this has been designed and decorated. The owner (a complete Italian gentleman) did it up for himself and then moved to the country so you can see that everything is of the highest quality. Spotlessly clean.
This is a gorgeous place to stay in Florence, and it is so central - you just walk everywhere. There is a nice feel to the neighbourhood too - right in the middle of Florence but with little artisans workshops, coffee shops and so on. There is a great restaurant just beside the apartment building, an antique shop beside that and a really great coffee shop (they call them bars) run by two very friendly brothers who speak English!
Only negative: no elevator. We didn't mind. We worked off all that pasta, but for some, it could be a problem.
Book early for this one: the owner told us he had only started to advertise the apartment in January and it is already filling up.
