Winter in Lauterbrunnen: Lauterbrunnen is a perfect base for a winter holiday whether you are interested in winter sports or not. There are reduced price passes for non skiers so that you can enjoy the fabulous scenery or meet up for lunch. Of course there are plenty of excellent restaurants with spectacular views. The revolving restaurant at the top of the Schiltorn should not be missed. Other activities include snow-shoe trekking, sledging , paragliding, curling and heli-skiing. Further afield there are lovely shops and cafes in Grindelwald and Interlaken. It is possible to take a boat ride on the lake year round. Also many of the hotels and sports centres offer very reasonably priced fitness and spa facilities if you need a little pampering
Spring / summer in Lauterbrunnen: Lauterbrunnen is an excellent base for exploring the Jungfrau region. You can take the train up to Jungfraujoch (the highest railway and restaurant in Europe) or the cable car to Schiltorn/Piz Gloria, film location of James Bond.
There are hiking and cycle paths for all abilities, the Eiger trail or a gentle stroll along the Lauterbrunnen valley, via Gimmelwald and Stechelberg.Or take bikes up to Murren and cycle back down to Lauterbrunnen. The same breath-taking views as the ski run in winter. Local folklore festivals, yodelling, flag throwing and dancing displays take place in the summer months. Food is an important part of staying in the mountains. Excellent local produce such as cheese, hams and bread are all available locally so picnics and BBQ become a real treat.
The lakes and Interlaken are only 8 miles away. With several lidos and beaches around the lake, as well as the pool in the village there are plenty of opportunities for swimming, watersports and boat rides.
Disabled access: The apartment has been built with disabled access in mind. On the ground floor, with easy access through front door or French doors, tiled floors and wide doorways make getting around easier.
The spacious bathroom is wheelchair friendly, and the main bedroom has plenty of room. Please ask if you need any specialist equipment. There are lovely (flat for Switzerland!) walks along the Lauterbrunnen valley which are accessible by wheelchair. Also, most of the public transport is accessible i.e. trains, cable cars, boats and is run with typical Swiss friendliness and efficiency.
