Paradise

Have kids, will travel Berry NSW Australia
Review Submitted: July 22, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
We were a party of 7 including 4 kids aged 11, 12, 14, and 15. The adults relaxed and the kids had a ball swimming, floating down the river with the tide in rubber tubes, fishing, and catching crabs. The owner was fantastic and we had a wonderful afternoon with him collecting pawpaw on a deserted island in the pouring rain.
The whole place was beautifully presented with gorgeous tropical flowers in evey room and on every table.
Salt Lake Lodge was very peaceful, relaxing and friendly with plenty of potential for a bit of adventure.
We took the easy way out of cooking and Dee came and prepared meals for us which we just had to heat up and cook the rice which made it very easy.
The lodge is about a 40 minute drive away from shops etc so it is necessary to stock up with food before arriving but the owners do have plenty if you forget anything.
A perfect place for people who like life a bit more simple but with comfort and beauty.
Two nights was not enough.

Heaven on Earth

Our week in Savusavu was absolute bliss! We relaxed, snorkelled, and ate fantastic food made with freshly caught seafood and organic vegetables and prepared by our maid, Di, who also happily babysat whenever we asked. The rooms were impecable and graced with fresh flowers daily, locally picked fruit was always available free of charge and the owners were great to have onsite at least once a day - often offering to buy us groceries if they were headed into town, helping us plan the next days sightseeing activities, jamming with the saxaphone and guitar at dusk and even delivering a delicious chocolate cake when they heard it was my birthday - thanks Ruby! We are definitely planning to come back again, and have raved about the place to all of our friends. Absolute paradise!

Perfect Getaway

For all those who are sick of large, crowded resorts, this is your place. With the help of some locals the owners created a perfect romantic getaway. You can fish, swim, snorcle, float on a tire down a river, explore the area in a kajac, or simply read a book.
The place is a little more remote than some of the main resorts but this is precisely why you don't run into hundreds of other tourists. And the money you spend on the additional flight is more than compensated for by a better deal you get in this place.
Not been in a similar paradise before!

Salt Lake Lodge

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday at Salt Lake Lodge. What a breath of fresh air! A wonderfully peacful place with great accomodation, service and hosts. Andrew and Sonya, thank you so much! We cannot speak highly enough of our time there and can't wait to return! Food, fishing and destination were truely amazing and the momeries will remain with us for a lon, long time, thank you.Clean, safe, comfortable, environmentally conscious wonderland. I have travelled far and wide and whilst I have been fortunate enough to visit many places around the world, there are few I would return to so willingly. I would also highly recommend the maid service, Dee cooked up some of the finest food we ate during our time in Fiji and would put many a five star restaurant to shame. 10 out of 10 for Salt Lake Lodge!!!

true nature paradise

Andrew and Sonja rent out a heavenly peace of nature right on the bank of a stream that feeds a saltwater lake. The cottages and the open air kitchen and dining area are tastefully designed and very well maintained. Everything is meticulously clean and well equipped. Enjoy a lovely tropical garden with trees and flowers. Our favourites were lying on the deck chairs on the pontoon right on the lake mowing up and down with the tide. The charming hosts are very helpful.

With eco toilets (very clean!) this place might not be suitable for kids between 2 and 6 years but toddlers and older kids will enjoy frolicking around on the own beach or jumping in or out of the river.

Andrew will take you with his boat to great fishing or snorkeling places. Or explore the nearby saltlake by kayaks the hosts provide for free. A unique experience!

Absolutely Fantastic!

My boyfriend and I (23 years) really can’t describe how great an experience it was staying at Salt Lake Lodge - it was just absolutely fantastic!
We still remember and miss how we relaxed in the sun, listened to the silence, cooked in the wonderful outdoor kitchen, picked passions fruits from the bush, swam in the river, kayaked, looked at the amazing stars and just had a life experience of its own!
Especially thanks to Sonja, Andrew and their daughter Ruby who with their care, small visits, and great stories made the stay even more cosy and unforgettable

We definitely recommend Salt Lake Lodge!

A perfect honeymoon destination

Warrior Knits London
Review Submitted: September 16, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
My husband and I went to Salt Lake Lodge for our honeymoon and we couldn't have asked for a better holiday. It was ideal for total relaxation after the stress of the wedding. The setting- the little beach, the shady pontoon (with sunloungers made by the owner), the sound of babbling water, the palm trees- was idyllic. The accomodation was very comfortable and spacious. We stayed in the Kingfisher bure, enjoying waking up and going to sleep iwth the sunlight. The shower was excellent- always piping hot, and a good strong stream of water, great for refreshing you.
My husband especially enjoyed swinging in the hammock, and floating around in the inner tube available at the lodge.
I would particularly recommend that people invest the extra dollars for maid service- the cheery, friendly maid, a young local man, cooked, cleaned and introduced us to the best of the local produce- sugar cane, coconut, papaya, guava, and a scarily large crab were all on the menu.
I'd also recommend the snorkelling which you can do with the lodge owner- best on a sunny day (of which there are many), and at high tide.
Overall, I'd happily recommend this place to anyone- we had an absolutely wonderful time there.

Nothing else - Just paradise

When I take a break - i want it to feel like stepping off world know in to somehwere else where I can really relax and enjoy nature. Andrew and Sonja have something truly unique. I had an unforgettable time and from the time I walked into the garden I knew that what I had chosen for my 1 week unwind would be perfect. The kyaking is brilliant - on every occassion I kayaked to the lake I was the only person there. Not a boat, canoe or otherwise in sight, and the scenery is absolutely breathtaking. There is an amazing walk that takes you to the top of a look out of the most beautiful bay I have ever seen and the kyaking out to the ocean is equally as impressive.

I cant say enough about this trip - its part adventure, part paradise and all unique.

Chilled out. private paradise, rest for the soul..

Salt Lake Lodge appealed to us on the website but was so much better in reality. We arrived via LA frazzled and not really relaxed from a busy year in London - we didnt leave the Lodge we are ashamed to say - but why leave somewhere when it you dont want to leave! Everything was there, after the food shop in town we then stayed for 5 glorious nights, we played music on the CD player, swam, fished, read a lot, sunbathed - chilled totally out - dont be put off if its rainy season either - the rain is totally beautiful too - Sonja and family have done a artistic and solid job at building the homes, the kitchen is great and clean... we quickly slept early and rose early to the sunrise and the birds each morning, everything slowly came alive, including us! OK mossies, they are there, in abundance at dusk but with a good Deet Jungle Spray you are fine but be prepared but dont let it put you off just dont forget your spray. JUST GO you will not regret it, and of course if you have more energy than us there was a stack to see with or without a car, we just chose not to. ENJOY and dont leave it too long - good for all ages, perhaps not for disabled but anyone who has adventure in their soul go go goxx

Gold found at the end of the Road!

Review Submitted: June 10, 2008 Date of Stay: December 2007
Andrew & Sonja are the greatest hosts. The property is senic & very private. The tropical fruit literally grows on trees tended by Sonja & the fish practically jump into Andy's boat! Away from city lights the night sky seemed to surround us on the deck of the lodge. I highly reccommend a week or mor in paradise.
