Beauty, Seclusion and So Much More

Review Submitted: August 11, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2007
My family and I stayed at "On Golden Pond" in late July, 2009. We were very pleasantly surprised at the beautiful secluded location and all that you get for a very reasonable rental rate. Beautiful hot tub, firepit outside for evenings under the stars and making s'mores, fully loaded kitchen with a dishwasher (no need to bring any kitchen stuff), room to sleep 7-8 on very comfortable beds with lots of linens and everything you could ever need. The house is very charmingly decorated and homey. There are lots of outdoor activities very close by i.e., hiking, boating, fishing, swimming and more. Also the owners were very friendly and helpful in sending us valuable information and e-mails about activities in the area. They were a pleasure to rent from! We'll be back!
Owner's Response: It makes us feel so wonderful to have a response such as this. We strive to accommodate our guest in every way. Thank you so much

On Golden Pond

Review Submitted: July 14, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
As advertised, a comfortable and private home relatively close to many activities/attractions. The community lake (a pleasant 5 minute walk) is primarily used for fishing (a lot of big fish) but my family used it for swimming (very clear, spring-fed lake). There was also a paddle boat. Another renter mentioned the drive way. It is indeed quite steep and made of gravel. Though this didn't bother me, it made my wife nervous and I think it could be a challenge with a lot of rain or snow. The house itself is comfortable. Three full bathrooms helped after a day of tubing or hiking. The satellite tv was great but there is not a dvd player. The master bedroom is in the loft and therefore less private (no door but it is on a separate level over the living room). The owners are very considerate and provided a lot of detailed information on things to do and see. If you are looking for a fancy chalet in mint condition, this isn't likely for you. However, it was what we expected (clean and comfortable) and for the price a very good deal. We would definitely stay here again.

Four wheel drive recommended

family of 4 with a teenager Augusta, KS, USA
Review Submitted: June 10, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
My family rented On Golden Pond May 30th thru June 6th. The owner provided us with a lot of information prior to our arrival regarding the area. This was very much appreciated and was helpful with being able to plan prior to traveling. The home was adequate for our needs though it does need a little TLC. The kitchen nicely stocked. Home is in a good location as there is much to do in the area. The fishing pond that is on the property, is really located in the area, not directly where the house is. The driveway to the home is very steep and is gravel/dirt. We traveled in a two wheel drive pickup and getting up the drive was difficult on a good day. The last two days of our stay it rained making it impossible to get back to the house. We ended up leaving a day early to ensure that we did not have issues getting back up the driveway. I would highly recommend a 4 wheel drive vehicle when staying at this location. If you have teen-agers and use AT&T for cell phone service (this is our carrier) there is NO cell phone signal at the property. I would stay at this location again, but would bring a 4 wheel drive vehicle!
Owner's Response: True driving a pickup up a hill can sometimes be a little difficult not knowing how to drive a truck in the mountains, most people do add a little weight to the rear truck bed to balance the front engine with the rear wheels and if you do that you can drive any where in the mountains . I wished they would have called me It was such a simple fix.

Great place / great location!

We stayed in April with our little girl & had a blast. There is a tranquil "village" atmosphere in the community & despite being in such close proximity to so many attractions, we were equally content to stay "home" as the house offers so much in terms of R&R. Everything seemed crisp & updated - including freshly planted flowers, a nice HD television, & cozy beds. I'm glad we found a gem on our first attempt as we will certainly be back in the not too distant future.......
Owner's Response: We really thank you for your honest review. We really strive to
please our guest in every way. We know this is your vacation
and our goal is to provide our guest with all the amenities that
will provide comfort and pleasure. Again thank you so much for your wonderful review.

This is the best place to go and rejuvinate your soul. I feel like all my worries and stress leave when I turn onto Tabacco Branch rd. Then I always sit in the hot tub at night to continue the relaxation and if that isn't enough I love love love to go down to one of the Fontana Lake inlets to just foat on the water (no motorized boats). There is always hiking, white water rafting, and tubing that are a blast when I'm in the mood to move around again.

We stay at On Golden Pond whenever we visit the North Carolina Mountains!!! We are so at home in this cozy cottage. It is secluded and a beautiful place to visit. There are several beds, 3 full bathrooms, huge porches, a fireplace, and couches that are nice and comfy. We love it and will be back!

what a perfect getaway

On Golden Pond Chalet is a charming getaway. Our stay at On Golden Pond Chalet was unforgetable. The chalet and accomodations were exactly what we were looking for. We couldn't of asked for anything nicer. The view was amazing! I took so many pictures of the wonderful mountain scenery. The flower beds were gorgeous.
Not too far from lots of things to do: A walk in the woods to see the breath-taking NC forest and beautiful lakes, Tubing , rafting, or canoeing, shopping and all kinds of things for during the days. The Hot tub was wonderful on the cool crisp nights, and snuggling up and watching tv and movies in the adorable and very comfy living room was a definately a nice way to relax and enjoy our stay in N.C.
Thanks so much for letting us use your place! We'll definately be back!

"On Golden Pond" is a beautiful, relaxing place to visit with friends or family or both! Gorgeous view from the balcony and very close to local attractions. The house is very comfortable and well maintained. It is a great place to stay and an even better place to revisit. There is so much to do and see in North Carolina and Tennessee. The hiking is breath-taking, literally and figuratively! If you want a nice cozy place to stay while visiting the area, "On Golden Pond" is the place for you!! I look forward to my next visit!!!

Awesome Getaway

My husband and I have been to this cabin on numerous occasions and absolutely LOVE it each and every time.

The first time we went, we went with another couple in the summer time and had the best time hanging out on the deck overlooking beautiful trees and the calming onsite lake. There is just so much to do around the surrounding areas: hiking, swimming, sightseeing, rafting, antique shopping....

Then that same year, we decided to go up there for Thanksgiving. What a great place to be for the holidays! The kitchen was fully stocked with every utensil and pan you would need to make a full meal! They even had several board games to choose from. Our two kids had the best time playing in the trees and fishing in the lake. Good lasting memories.

The last time my husband and I went, we just wanted to get out of the city---with no kids! The hot tub was very relaxing and the nice, peaceful surroundings just made a marvelous romantic environment. We went on a romantic Dinner Train Excursion, drove to waterfalls, and simply snuggled on the comfy couch to watch movies. Love, love, love this place! Thanks so much for sharing your cabin with us.

Cozy and Quiet Getaway

We had a great stay at On Golden Pond!! We could just relax all day if we wanted because the kitchen is well stocked for cooking in and there is plenty of hiking just out the door. Plus plenty of movies for just relaxing. The property is tidy and there is plenty of sleeping room. Owner provided many ideas before our trip. We especially enjoyed swimming in Lake Fontana....the water is so clear and refreshing. There was plenty to do...too much in one trip....horseback riding, white water rafting, hiking, biking, kayaking.....next time :) The kids especially enjoy going tubing down Deep Creek....freezing water but a lot of fun!! We will definately come back!
