Butler Cottage stay
Review Submitted: April 8, 2009
Date of Stay: March 2009
Stressful visit
-ripped sheets from being so threadbare ( no spare set)
-2 bath towels and 1 hand towel for a 2 week stay with 2 people
-no microwave as advertised
-less than adequate supplies in the kitchen ( felt like I was camping)
- so humid that wine corks crumbled ( ruined a nice bottle of $40 wine)
-coffee table with no surface to place things upon( covered in pretty but senseless river rock)
-no directions on what to do with the trash
-crowing roosters at all hours of the day
-noisy intersection and a very transitional neighborhood
-heat and air provided with a swamp cooler and electric portable heaters
-lots of senseless decoration that made the cottage cute but took up much needed space
-very hard to lock the door from the outside-deadbolt didn't work
-cockroaches
This visit was so stressful due to the discomfort of the cottage that we had a miserable time. It is too small for more than a night or two stay. I would not stay here if you are planning on cooking many meals or staying home much. If you decide to risk it , don't forget your ear plugs, towels and a can of roach spray.
Owner's Response: We were very surprised and saddened to see this review as we do our very best to ensure that our renters are comfortable and leave happy. We live next door to the property and are always on hand to provide any extra amenities should our guests ask for them (plus we love to meet our guests when the opportunity arises). We store extra sheets, towels, and washcloths and offer to change sheets and clean the cottage for our longer term guests when requested. Most of our guests find the kitchen to be adequately stocked, and we are always adding cookware (including a microwave in the near future) and other items to make the Cottage more homey. Our Eastside neighborhood is eclectic but hardly transitional. The homes are older with beautiful, well established trees and we border a newer development, with miles of walking trails, parks, playgrounds, ponds, and shops. Our neighborhood also is host to such wildlife as a family of peacocks, a goat who walks on a leash, and Jim - the rooster maligned in the above review. Jim does get going early in the morning, and we now offer complementary ear plugs to block out his serenades. Unfortunately, roaches are sometimes a part of life in Texas, but we do use environmentally friendly pest control services to keep those guys out. This isn't the Ritz and we don't promise luxury, but we do offer a lovely rental that most people find fun, charming, and comfortable. We hope you will come and find out for yourself. Please stop in and say hello if you do!
