We are really missing the house today as we sit at home watching the SNOW come down!! Our girls did not want to leave until we called and made reservations for another week. We all had a great time!
We were looking forward to a relatively quiet week without a ton of stuff to do- our schedule, like many others, is full of sports, church, school, and work activities -so we did NOT want a vacation with a "to do" list. We got exactly what we wanted! We were able to relax in the pool and at the beach. We played board games every day, something we don't get to do often enough and there were plenty to choose from. Our girls loved exploring in the back yard around the creek, riding bikes, and taking walks on the beach looking for shells.
Dauphin Island had just enough to do without having to do it all. We stopped at Skinner's Seafood at least 3 times- maybe more. We enjoyed the fresh shrimp and fresh crawfish boil. The Lighthouse Bakery was a true bright spot! We even stopped as we left to bring some home. We also ordered pizza from Island Rainbow- delicious!! We were wishing we could order some for dinner last night. We spent one cloudy and cool day on the east end of the island at the Fort and the sea life area.
The house was beautiful and yet very "homey". I'm not sure how old the home is, but it still looks like new! The pictures were spot on! The house was clean and neat and had everything we needed to enjoy a wonderful Spring Break. We are in LOVE with Dauphin Island and are looking forward to another trip sometime soon!!

We had a great stay at the River Cottage. It was super clean on our arrival. The heated pool was perfect for our March stay. The kids used it everyday. The cottage was well stocked with everything we needed, and we made good use of the bikes, scooters, beach toys, and beach chairs. Accomodations were perfect for two families with six kids between 5 and 14. No problems at all, and the owners were a pleasure to deal with.

The pictures just do not do justice to this home. The home is absolutely gorgeous with anything and everything you could hope for stocked in it. It truly was a home away from home and made our stay very enjoyable.
The island was like going back in time. It was slow paced and quiet. We rode bikes, took many beach trips and went to Fort Gaines and the Estuarium, both of which I would highly recommend.
The house had everything we needed and more. The kids swam in the pool non stop and had a blast in the game room too. Our group ranged in ages from 3 to 55, the kids from 3-15 and everybody had fun.
I hope we can make it back to Dauphin Island in the future and will without a doubt choose this home to stay in!

Excellent stay - we were impressed with the high end fixtures as well as privacy this house gave us. When we were tired of the beach the pool was a nice distraction. Having the creek to our back afforded us to rent kayaks and paddle out to Mobile Bay.

This property exceeded all our expectations. Very peaceful location. Great Kitchen. Make sure you plan on preparing lots of fresh seafood from skinners and biking to Light House Bakery for Cinnamon Rolls in the morning.

Our family of four shared the house with a couple old friends. The amenities are very nice. Clearly, a lot of thought went into designing this vacation home so that there is an appropriate amount of privacy coupled with the open floor plan in the common areas.

The kitchen is particularly nice, with granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances and very nice cookware. And the ice machine is a VERY nice touch - good thinking. The bedrooms all have direct access to their own bathroom. The Master bedroom is quite a bit nicer than the other two, having a king bed and much nicer (and fully private) bathroom.

The heated pool was nice since we were visiting in mid-March, when the temperature of the gulf was still quite cold. We spent our evenings on the back deck and patio relaxing.

The most unfortunate part of the house is the view. There is no ocean view at all (which we knew ahead of time), and outside of the patio and pool area, the backyard is not nice. There was an old, dead tree that had fallen in the back yard, and the lawn itself consisted of mowed weeds. Some landscaping and lawn care would go a long way towards improving the outdoor living at the house. Indoors is very nice.

Only other negative was the wi-fi was VERY slow. We all had our gadgets, and the slow Internet connection encouraged us to put them away and enjoy our vacation - I guess that's a good thing.

Overall, we had a good time at the house and found it to be a nice getaway. Very short walk to the beach, and easy bike rides or drives to everything else.

Owners are very nice and attentive. I appreciate their quick response to our questions.

Bring your bug spray. It's a must.

We loved our time on Dauphin Island and this house made our time there that much better! It was great! We had 4 adults and 4 children (9 mos. to 4 yrs.). The pool was wonderful to have for when the babies were taking their naps. We loved the beach as well, although the private beach was the best in our opinion. It has a water slide that is great additional entertainment for the kids. The public beach was a bit of a haul with all the stuff you have to take for little ones.
The house has everything you need and is a great place to stay. We would definitely recommend this rental!
FYI - I recommend avoiding Barnacle Bills restaurant. The food is awful!
