What a delightful property. My husband and I just returned from a week at Gateway Cottage. We have visited Cape Cod several times in the past and decided to try a new area we had not been to before and chose the Gloucester area. The cottage was better than depicted on the web site. There was a warm and welcoming feeling immediately upon entering. The basket of goodies and the next morning's breakfast items which were waiting for us was a special touch. The cottage was well equipped, much more so than some other rentals we have visited. The premises were clean and beautifully decorated - it is apparent that the owners took great care in their planning.

My brother and his wife joined us for the first few nights of our stay, and there was plenty of room for us all to be comfortable. Having separate bathrooms for each couple was an important consideration when searching for a vacation rental.

We traveled into Boston twice - once driving in ourselves, and another time on the commuter train. I strongly recommend the train for anyone unfamiliar with the city. We also visited Rockport one day and Salem another.

Although not what anyone wants to do on a vacation, we also had occasion to visit the Gloucester hopsital emergency room, and we were well treated. I recommend avoiding that particular site when planning your trip!! (nothing serious, by the way.)

We hope to return and will certainly seek out the Gateway Cottage for our next visit. THANKS for sharing this lovely location.

Our family of five had a wonderful time at Cape Ann and the Gateway Cottage. The accomodations were clean, bright, and comfortable. We recommend the cottage.

Our favorite activities - Wingaersheek and Good Harbor beaches, the Essex River Cruise, Rocky Neck art walk, and Halibut Point.

Best eats - Lobster Land and Woodmans.

Gateway cottage is beautiful and relaxing. The view is incredible. We were greeted with fragrant lilacs and breakfast for the morning. Very nice touch Janet! The access to the Cape Ann area is easy and just as quick to Boston. My sons even made a daytrip to climb Mt. Washington. The floorplan is open and bright but noise does not travel between the levels. Hope to return.

We were in two minds whether to stay at Biskie Head or in Boston. Boy are we glad that Janet 'sold us' on Biskie Head! There was a lovely welcome basket waiting for us including things for the children. The location is just great for appreciating the nature on the doorstep, and what a view from the master bedroom! We used Gateway Cottage as a base for exploring Gloucester, Rockport, Salem, and the train ride into Boston is convenient too. We discovered how quick it was to get to Kittery outlet, much to my childrens joy! The house is welcoming and cosy even in November, and looking at the stars through the velux windows is a treat. The fridge in the master bedroom is a nice touch for the chilled wine to enjoy in the jacuzzi! The Candy House eventually proved to be too much of a temptation and Lobsta Land is just a delight! Compliments to Janet and Chuck, they really made us want to stay longer. If you're in two minds,we'd heartily recommend staying at Gateway Cottage.

We loved the home and the location! As a Nature Artist the beautiful tidal marsh and marina, AND the many birds were a real plus. Egret, Redwing blackbirds, swallow and a nightly fly-by of Mallards kept us entertained. Janet said she has seen a Bald Eagle, hoever, he didn't put in an appearance for us. The cottage is great, and the location near Gloucester and Rockport made it even better. We would love to stay again.

We have spent two weeks in Gateway Cottage and we have enjoyed every single day. Janet has really done a great job, making us feel at home and taking care of all our needs. Even though the weather was rainy we had the opportunity to do a lot of stuff even though we had both our children (1 and 3 years old) with us. Especially the children museum in Boston, the Aquarium and the science museum are great rainy day activities with children. The cottage is really nice and cosy and makes you feel at home right from the day you arrive. We will certainly be back some day :-)

our stay at gateway cottage was simply wonderful .. right from the start .. upon exiting the highway .. viewing our own candy store near by .. to the secret hideaway street where the cottage was located .. to driving upon the stone driveway .. entering thru the front door you immediately felt serene and warmth .. it was so nice to be in a home where someone had taken great care to how they wanted their home to be .. not only for themselves but for the people to whom they would share it with... great taste .. the welcome basket on the table .. apples in a bowl .. full breakfast in the fridge .. great magazines .. books .. heaters blowing warming up the cottage .. walking up the stairwell and hearing classical music playing .. turned on the gas fireplace .. walked up to the third floor to find plush white bathrobes nicely folded on the end of this great bed .. windows all over .. the sweet cozy bathroom with the huge tub .. we knew we had come to "comfortland" .. thank you so much chick and janet .. we too .. as your other guests .. will be back .. you truly know how to make someone feel at home ... happy holidays

We spent two glorious weeks at Gateway Cottage. Janet and Chick have thought of everything - they were incredible hosts. Gloucester and Cape Ann are wonderful. Our fist night we met several locals at "Lobsta Land" (by the way great eats) and they were so nice and helpful directing us to places to see and places to eat. The locals are extremely open and friendly- "Two Sisters" is super for breakfast-lots of local flavor.
Needless to say I did not want to return to reality, so I am already planning our trip back next year.

We loved Gloucester! The cottage was delightful. Everything was so bright and beautiful. Janet has GREAT taste in decorating. While visiting Gloucester, whale watching is a must, along with the Duck boat tour. Hiking in Halibut Point Park (Rockport) is breathtaking, while driving there, along Rte 127 just before you leave Gloucester stop at the soft serve ice cream place they serve 35 different flavors. Halibut Point Pub downtown Gloucester has a wonderful grilled only menu (no fries on this menu)!! and if you want to leave the kids home Domino's delivers and Lobsta Land is just down the street, great sea scallops! Just a great vacation spot!
