Not what you think!

If you think you're going to find paradise here, well, I need to let you know: You will. As hard as it is to write a glowing review on a place that I hold dear and wish to have (affordable) access to for the rest of my life...I gotta give it up! This is a place full of wonder...or, to say it in a different way, it's wonderful. Yeah, the furniture needs to be updated, but it's comfortable. The road in is scary, but, trust me, it's worth it. And, it could certainly use a thorough and deep cleaning, but it is clean. And, it's homey. And, it's a wonderful place to leave the phone, the computer, the daily annoyances behind. If you want paradise, here it is.

Still Hot in Texas

Tom and Family, Thank you for sharing your lovely home with a group of heat and drought weary TEXANS. We arrived to a light mist, 60 degree temperatures (it was 114 degrees when we left home and 106 when we returned) and wonderful views of the ocean. Three of the members of our party had never been out of Texas and within an hour in you home - they were trying to find a way to stay all summer. The house was extremely comfortable and suited us well. The beach was enjoyed by all. We read all the material around the house on things to do and never did get bored. I do have to applogize for not getting out of the house by 11:00 (made it by 11:30) but our short, fast last trip to the beach took much longer than planned. Everyone decided 5 stars is not enough so make it 10. We hope to make a return trip next year but will definately be back. Thanks again for your gracious hospitality. The hot and very dry Texas.

Slice of Heaven on the Oregon Coast

Not only does this property have location, location, location - it also has great accommodations and amenities to help you enjoy your stay!

The directions for the property were spot on, especially helpful when we arrived after dark. The property is set back slightly from the nearby beach, yet the sound of the ocean and views are incredible. The kitchen and LR are on the upper level and both rooms are well appointed. WiFi internet access was an unexpected surprise. The main bath and laundry room are both on the entry level. There was an ample supply of towels and supplies and even a pair of wetsuits for kids. The MBR and second BDRM was down a flight of stairs from the entry and contained ample space to spread out for a few days. The master bed was comfortable and there were plenty of extra linens/blankets to enjoy the cool Oregon nights. The bunk beds in the 2nd BDRM would have been great for kids. There is a a recreation room and second bath on the lower level.

Don't forget the deck off the upper level that runs the length of the house - plenty of chairs and room to soak up the sun, read a good book, and watch the tides roll in and out. We enjoyed watching the sunset each evening. To get up close and personal to the ocean, a short walk down the path puts you right on the beach - perfect for morning and evening walks/runs.

The location is great for access to either the northern or southern coasts. The Rogue microbrewery in Newport was a great stop and there are many shops in Newport. To the north, Depot Bay and Lincoln City are nearby for additional eateries and shopping. As hiking is a favorite activity, there is a great trail out to Cascade Head (5.2 miles RT) just north of Lincoln City with some spectacular views of the coast after passing through beautiful forest.

The owner was great about communications and the instructions/directions were clear and understandable. The owner has gone to great lengths to make the property enjoyable and comfortable.

If you have the opportunity to be on the central Oregon coast, don't miss a stay at this Otter Rock slice of heaven!

This is the place that shows pride of ownership from the top to the bottom. We have traveled from one end of the Oregon coast to the other and this house has the most spectacular views ever! No wonder this is always rented ... the owner takes pride in all of the important things - plenty of supplies, clean and always available for our questions. Excellent is the word to describe this beach home! Thank you for allowing our fur people to join us - whether relaxing or visiting nearby towns, this is the "home" to return to!

This home is THE perfect getaway to relax and rewind! It is just as advertised and is located conveniently for sightseeing, shopping, etc. However, you may never want to leave - we didn't! The trail to the beach is easily accessed and once on the beach, you can walk for miles. Thank you for allowing our dogs, as they too had a wonderful time. We had storms the first night there, and even found a float to add to the collection in the yard. Even in bad weather, the views were incredible and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We will definitely return to this treasure at the beach!!

We loved this place! You will not find a more amazing view and the home is appointed with all the conveniences we needed for our vacation -- Easy access to the beach, pre-cut wood for bonfires on the beach, ocean views from most every room in the house. BBQ on the deck for casual family dinners. We'll stay here again -- for sure!

This house was a dream: unbelievably clean, with a great layout and amazing views from almost every room. The secluded beach was fabulous and totally deserted, great for walks and running around with our dog. We will definitely be back! Our only problem was that the gas for the BBQ grill was empty, so we couldn't grill.

We just spent a week at this beautiful home. Location - can you say waves within 3 mins? Clean, spacious, and furnished with everything you couldn't cram into the car! The views are spectacular! We enjoyed our time immensely! The home is tastefully decorated and stocked with towels, kitchen appliances, and cable tv. Kids had Nintendo to play, or their own tv to watch. Dead end road means no thru traffic and NO crowds! We went to the beach every day and saw less than a dozen other families enjoying the waves. Tidepooling very close as well! The property was in excellent condition, no disrepair. Full decks for enjoying sunsets. Skip the crowds at Newport and Nye Beach and head to Depoe instead. Food is better and whale watching (we saw 2) at the center. Grocery stores are close by in Newport though for stocking up and cooking at "home". AVOID the Sand Bar restaurant on Nye Beach - hideous food; you could do better out of the freezer section from any Wal-Mart. There are ALOT of stairs in this house though, multi-level stacked, so definitely not a good idea for anyone who can't navigate them. Owner even had spare wetsuits to borrow, as well as beach chairs, kite, boogie board, and plenty of things to build sandcastles. Mo's Chowder House is on the bluff, within walking distance, as well as the Devil's punchbowl, Cape Foulweather, and Flying Dutchman Winery. Make sure to head south on the beach for agates and fossils.

A Week in (almost) Paradise

This home was FANTASTIC! The only drawback was no fault of the owner and will be fixed shortly - just before our visit the road to the property washed out due to a burst water pipe. It was not a long walk to the property but coming out was uphill. (I don't like uphill very much!) But the home was great and the views were wonderful. Well located for day-trips to the sights of the Central Coast, sunsets and moonsets from the living room, as well as the bedrooms every night/morning, plenty of surfers to watch, , a short walk to the miles of beach and the jacuzzi tub if you tried the surfing or walked too far. We had a great time and found the whole house well appointed with anything we needed (especially liked the binoculars - very thoughtful, son's favorite was the wet suit and boogie board - and the Nintendo). We will definitely keep this house in mind for our next visit to the Oregon Coast. Note of warning: This home is multi-leveled with lots of stairs. If you have small children or bad knees, think carefully.

So nice we stayed an extra night!

I know what you're thinking. "Hmmm....looks good in print, but what's it *really* like? How's the view? Is it easy to get to the beach?"

The house is quite nice, the view lovely (although I'm sure the whales were cavorting just beyond the trees that block the ocean from the deck), and beach access nearby, private, and not difficult to use.

Entering the house, you will find a laundry room to the right and full bathroom to the left; go up the stairs to a living room (tv, stereo, fireplace, games/movies), small dining area, and small kitchen.

The next level down contains two bedrooms. Down yet another small flight and there's a family room with tv/video games, daybed, and bath with jacuzzi tub. This room was rather cold during our stay but the kids still played there.

The house was comfortable and very clean. Perfect for a beach vacation--nice enough to feel like we are in a lovely setting, but not so perfect that we were afraid to have the kids and dog there.

The owner says there's parking, but no room for a boat or rv. And he means it! The street is single lane, the road fairly muddy (spring rain/snow), and a tight turn to park.

The trail to the beach is just past the driveway to the house. It is not officially "marked" but easy to find. Not steep, not winding, not too hard to walk up and down. After the night of rain, our girls did slide on it a bit.

The beach was not busy at all--and on Wednesday I couldn't see anyone else. It is accessible by stairs from the Devil's Punchbowl, but this house is just far enough down from there that any traffic is just passing through.

There are three kid-sized wetsuits (including booties and gloves) at the house and our daughters made very good use of them!! Some beach toys, chairs, and a kite were in the storage shed, but I didn't know about them until the end of the trip.

Downsides?
Hmm...no teakettle or cookie sheet (for pizza).
A sheet of rules/procedures was on the fridge, the owner's phone number was posted on the door, and tourist pamphlets in the tv cabinet--but I always enjoy paging through that Guest House binder on the coffee table containing maps, directions, recommendations, etc.

The house is an easy distance from Newport, Depoe Bay, and Lincoln City; we were able to go to the Aquarium, shopping, a lighthouse, and still feel like we had plenty of relaxation at the house.

I would definitely recommend this rental to anyone who wants to stay on the Oregon Coast.
