A Great Holiday Choice

We stayed in the one bedroom Rosa. Very comfortable, well furnished and well equipped, clean and tidy. Nice private garden that caught the sun all day. The Villa is in a lovely location and well situated on a hillside overlooking the lake. The gardens are well kept and are very attractive. While we were there we had almost continuous sunshine, hot during the day but cooling in the evening to a comfortable temperture for alfresco dining. Alena, Paulo and Romano were incredibly welcoming and helpful, and at least one of them was always available. The nice beaches of the lake are about 2 or 3km away with the sort of facilities you would expect from an Italian Lido. The surrounding region is very attractive and not difficult for driving. The towns of Ronciglione and Caprarola are only about 3km away with restaurants, cafes, supermarkets, some shops and attractive 'old towns'. There are lots of other medieval villages within about 10km that are well worth a visit. The city of Viterbo is about 15km away with a lovely old town, a very nice and varied shopping area, and a wide choice of restaurants. And of course the sights of Rome are not beyond reach, with easy parking at the large but cheap 'Park and Ride' facility an easy 50 min drive from the Villa. We wouldn't hesitate to return.

Stunningly beautiful views

Our first time in Italy and we were fortunate enough to base ourselves at Villa La Paiola. This is the place for you if you are seeking rural Italy and like to explore by day but return to a place of tranquility to watch the sun drop spectacularly behind the stunning mountains that frame the lake... I could sit there forever watching the lake turn from orange to silver and develop a drinking habit! The view is simply breath-taking and the evening sunset floods the small but comfortable sitting area with a warmth that seems almost healing.... not that we ever sat inside. What a way to relax and leave behind the stresses of everyday living!
The apartment was quite small but cosy, clean and entirely adequate for our week's stay. Our hosts were welcoming, helpful and charming, giving advice for getting to Rome by train (cheap and easy) and places to park the car next to the station (about £1 all day!) The gardens were well kept and colourful; our seating area very intimate, but then who needs more when beyond the low stone wall is a place of outstanding natural beauty as far as the eye can see! There are so few houses on Lake Vico because it is a national park and so the views are totally unspoilt.
There was so much to see in the villages within a 50km radius that we struggled to visit it all and get the relaxation balance right; old Etruscan burial grounds, a 'ghost' settlement high in the mountains, Lake Bracciano where Tom Cruise recently got married, Rome, of course, and much more. And the pizzas in Viterbo at Il Monastero were so huge that each one was spread over two plates - delicious and excellent value! The lake was great to swim in; clean and appeared to be quite safe. It was picturesque and a novelty to be sunbathing in a 'meadow' setting on the shore of a large lake with spectacular mountain scenery. We found a car essential.
We will be back but next time with friends and extended family (would have liked it to be with Tom Cruise, but sadly Katie beat me to it!) The villa is ideal for this as it has been divided into several small apartments. If you are looking for large living accommodation you might be disappointed - if you are looking for clean, friendly, very adequate facilities with the most stunningly beautiful scenery, you most certainly will not!

Relaxing erxperience with magnificant views

Great location with an amazing view of the lake which produced stunning sunsets. Alena provided a very warm welcome and gave us some great tips on places to go. Location was quiet but was not too far from local villages and towns. Car is essential as no shops in walking distance and public transport very unreliable.The property had all the main essentails and was clean and cosy. Rooms good size and fit for purpose. An Italian phrase book essential or a basic knowledge of the language as very little english spoken but this added to the atmsophere.

Very clean good sized appartment. Wonderful host who was extreemely helpful! Only downside is that it is not actually on the lake (it's on a hill overlooking it) and you have to drive to get down to it. Very handy for Rome, would reccomend!
