stock up on fresh corn, tomatoes, blueberries and lobsters on your way in and you won't want to leave the house for the entire vacation! Its like living on the bow a ship with the sheepscot river beneath you.
Brand new appliances, well stocked house with everything you need. Plus, towels and linens are provided.
Absolutely spectacular.

Nice comfortable little house! The view is fantastic. We even got to see the seals a few times--once while kayaking. Very quiet and relaxing. Saw a bald eagle early one morning. Loved the fireplace on those chilly mornings.

One thing the house definitely needs is internet access. We had many brochures about the area---but quite a few of them only gave a short description of something and then had "see our website for more details". The local library is not convenient at 11pm when you are looking for your next day's adventures.

Also, a nice size flat screen tv would have been a great asset for those movie nights.

Cooked all our meals in--lobster 3 nights!!! Lobster Co-Op is great. Drove all over the place discovering the area.

Owners are very nice to deal with. Very accommodating.

Would stay here again and I have recommended it to friends.

My wife and I were looking to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary at a secluded, quiet retreat, where we could relax, read, enjoy the views and be comfortable ... BOY I thank GOD I found Laurie and her husband's place!
The location was perfect, and as I opened the door,I was floored! The only words I could muster was O.M.G.!!!
The Donovan's thought of everything, from the pots and pans, to the wine glasses, to the binoculars, anything we needed was there. I was amazed not only of the VIEW, but how clean and modern everything was! As my wife kept saying It is so tastefully decorated! Agreed! The shutters blew me away!! and so did the oar! Again, I can not say enough!
If you want to shop, FREEPORT, and BOOTH BAY, are a short drive away, not to mention WISSCASET. A little further if you are adventurous, is CAMDEN & ROCKPORT , not to be missed, and places to eat are everywhere in the towns I mentioned, There is Reds Eats ( Really Wicked Lobstah Roll) or for breakfast you can go to Marketplace Cafe across from Shaw's on RT 1. Best sausage links ever and the biscuits and gravy... Incredible. The majority of the time we did dine in, again everything you need is there. I was so inspired by the place, I did not screw up one meal, it all turned out perfect.
I do want to THANK Laurie and her husband again, for the 1000th time, they were gracious attentive and very caring hosts to our perfect week!! You guys are responsible for the beginning of another 30 years of wonderful memories!
To the cottage, We'll see you next year, Laurie keep in touch and YES, I would recommend it to all!!

The most perfect place on earth!

I wish there were 10 suitcases for the quality of the experience. We've come to think of it as our home away from home. Its that kind of place that you cherish the moments of quiet and beauty while you are there, think of them the rest of the year and then can't wait to return!
This year, we brought an inflatable boat and electric motor with us so we could explore the river. Incredible. Seals dancing around the boat, playing with us, scooting around the lobster pots, and us wondering at the tranquility of it all.

Laurie is truly a wonderful person, and a generous, kind, thoughtful host, as is her husband.
Once you arrive there, you won't want to leave, even our dogs were sad to go home.

Great location, great house

Review Submitted: November 12, 2008 Date of Stay: October 2008
We came back from our Maine foliage vacation a few weeks ago, where we stayed at Westport Island cottage. The location was excellent: waterfront, at the northern tip of the island with views of water from 3 sides of the house. Private dock with table was great to have a meal outside, even if you don’t have a boat. Lobstermen and fishing boats were passing by on the way to work in the morning, just as it was described. We did see the whole process of catching lobsters a few feet from the cottage, staying in pajamas, in warm house inside, looking through wall of windows, which is what two sided of the house are made of. Surely beats paying for lobster fishing trip on a cold October morning.
At night, it is extremely quiet and dark around the house, but you can see civilization a mile or so away on the other side of the bay. Best of both worlds.
If you want a lobster, working dock is 10 min walk or 2 min drive away. The price difference compared to Wiscasset village was unbelievable (more than 4 times cheaper).
We rent lots of houses while skiing in the winter, so we’ve seen quite a few, and this was one of the best. It is an elegant, but simple cottage with alpine architecture, high ceilings and both north and east side walls made out of sections of glass from top to bottom. The kitchen is clean, simple and new (remodeled). There was everything we needed in terms of plates, silverware, etc.; there was even some eggs and milk in the fridge left by previous tenants. The feeling was like we were on a hiking trail, where experienced hikers leave a fresh pile of fire wood for next camper in the morning before setting off.
We would definitely recommend the house and will have it at the top of our list for next trip to Maine.

Wonderful Getaway

We just returned from a week's stay and both the house and its location are fantastic. The water views are spectacular, and the house is set back enough for privacy. We spent the whole week on the deck or the dock watching the boats sail by while eating lobster caught the same day bought at the lobster co-op down the road. The house itself is tastefully furnished with a great kitchen and bath.

If you do want to leave the house, it is located near both Bath and Wiscasset, with lots of shops and restaurants.

I can't say enough wonderful things about the house and its location.

Lovely week on the Sheepscot!

The view alone is reason enough to stay. We never wanted to leave the comfort of the deck or sofa, but we managed to pull away and take advantage to all of the adventure a quiet island point had to offer. Even during a particularly rainy week we managed to stay busy and relax.

The short trails very near were perfect for the kids to explore without parents tagging along. We walked to the lobster Co-Op and bought "slept in the bay last night" lobsters. The pier was an endless source of entertainment. The girls fished with no luck, but a lot of heart and we all kayaked up and down the island timing just right with the almost treacherous tide current.

I loved cooking in this house and with the help of the blueberries growing outside, local lobsters and a couple of organic and local farm stands and shops, I am happy to say we managed to eat 90% local for the entire week.

It was a perfect week, despite the rain. We have already recommended this house to a number of friends and I long to go back myself.

Peaceful & serene

Beautiful, quiet, private property surrounded by woods and water. We found it relaxing and very comfortable with every amenity you could possibly want. Top of the line furnishings, linens, towels, and kitchen utensils/cookware. If you're looking for a quiet, peaceful place to relax, this is it. And lots of shopping and things to do and see within a 20-mile radius. We loved it and wouldn't hesitate to go back. The only thing lacking at all was Internet service, but the library 4 miles away has computers available.

If you're looking for a beautiful, quiet place to get away from it all, yet still have shopping and dining nearby, look no further. The environment at the cottage is so peaceful, you can't help but relax.
