Our family had the privilege of renting the Caughey's home the week of July 14th of 2007. We truly had a wonderful time and it was most relaxing. We loved having the access to the boat in which we did some tubing and a little fishing. A great time was had by all. Conor even allowed us to bring our yorkie, Duchess in which we are most grateful for since she had a nice time as well. Again, Conor we would like to thank you for allowing my family to vacation in your beautiful home and we look forward to future visits.

Labor Day

Review Submitted: October 15, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
I rented the place with another 10 people over the labor day weekend. First off i would like to say that at first sight the place is beautiful, the location is great, and there is a lot of privacy. However we had quite a few dissapointments. The night we arrived there we had to stay up and basicly clean the house. the refrigerator was completely discusting and had to scrub it for an hour before we can put our food in there. we also had to wash the sheets since half of them had dog hair all over them. we couldn't even use on of the bathtub because it was dirty. so basicly everything we used we had to clean befre using. i probably wouldn't have complained if Connor would have actually kept his word and reimburse us for actually having to clean. it was not fair to pay that much money and have to vaccum, clean the grill, the bathroom and the refirgerator. WE wanted to have a relaxing weekend at a beautiful place and ended up being dissapointed.

Summer Getaway

Review Submitted: September 17, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
I stayed up at the Evart Cottage with a group of 10 friends. Last year we went to Lake Cumberland, KY but decided to keep the drive shorter this year; which was very nice. The cottage was very beautiful, it at all the amenities and the video games were an added bonus. Located in a very wooded area, so be sure to bring your bug spray. I was very disappointed in the Lake. The Lake was extremely "swamp like" by the dock and you are unable to just sit on the dock and dangle your feet in the water. If you want to go swimming, you have to drive to the beach or take the boat out. Beware, taking the boat out isn't that safe. A few of us took the boat out on our first day to take a tour around the Lake, and ended up hitting a unmarked stump in the water; which was just about 30 yards straight out from the dock. It took us all by surprise as the boat lifted out of the water. The prop on the boat broke, which we replaced the same day. We were later told by some people in town, that that area of the lake is known for that. Tubers and Skiers, be careful!! We spent a couple days tubing down the Muskegon River which was a pretty short drive and a blast and I highly recommend. The River Water was much cleaner. We also enjoyed biking around the lake, which was a great workout (lots of hills).
Owner's Response: Mr H stayed at my home and showed total disrespect to me and my property. He broke the glass table top on the deck broke the umbrella and also broke the prop which he replaced but somehow seemed to think I was in some way responable for fixing it.At check out he made no attempt to clean the home and left over 400 empty beer cnas and bottles along with numerous empty liquor bottles.I refused to return Mr H his deposit so I'm sure that is the reason for his negative comments about my home.Funny how no other guests have ever posted anything about how bad the lake is.

Our family of husband, wife, 23 y/o daughter, 21 and 16 y/o sons and 26 y/o daughter's boyfriend plus our pooch had a wonderful time at the Caughey House on Lake Miramichi. The water was actually quite warm given the depth of the lake, which made for great boating, tubing and swimming. The house was just as described..ask the owner for more photos to get a better look! We enjoyed walking around the lake (about 4 miles), reading, sipping a glass of wine on the deck and the firepit, too. Conor was very patient with us when we got lost and frantically called him the first day there. Hubby loves wildlife photography and every day, we saw deer or turkeys or a snake or even a beaver swimming with a branch across most of the lake! The downstairs game room/pub was truly enjoyed by our entire group. This place is whatever you want "up north" to be..whether it's wildlife, boating/tubing/fishing, or reading a great book while sitting in the sun (nice library of kids and grown up books, by they way). Try it, you will love this place!

Our thanks to the Conor and family for renting us their beautiful chalet the week of July 4, 2008. The spacious house is well built, well decorated and clean. Our favorite features: privacy of the wooded land, second floor large sun deck, boat and ultra cool Irish pub in the basement. We had our three 20 something kids and one of their friends with us and we all thoroughly enjoyed our whole vacation week. There is something for everyone to enjoy!

Thrills, Spills, & Chills!

Review Submitted: July 23, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
This is quite possibly the best family vacation we've ever had. The place was absolutely ideal for the kind of vacation we wanted for our family: peaceful, beautiful, relaxing, exciting, and just plain fun. Our three granddaughters had a great time on the "sip" line (as one calls it) and the tree swing (Grandpa was the only one who could make them go high enough). The two little ones had never fished before and weren't too thrilled about it until they started reeling in fish one after another. "Conor's boat" was a highlight for everyone and we spent many hours on it tubing, fishing, and doing "park and swims." The fire pit was perfect for roasting hot dogs and marshmallows. The arcade games and pool table were a real hit when the weather was drizzly or in the evening after the bugs came out. I looked forward to having a quiet time and drinking my morning coffee on the deck each day while waiting for my husband to return from his morning run around the lake. Our daughters and I had plenty of room to work together in the well-appointed kitchen preparing meals and snacks. The decor and furnishings were just beautiful. Our son-in-law enjoyed the first couple days so much, that after he went back to work on Monday, he asked for Friday off so he could rejoin us.

I must say I was hesitant in planning a vacation on the internet, and was anxious to please everyone in our group, but your place received rave reviews from our entire family. The website does not do it justice. It far exceeded our expectations.

Conor, your spacious family chalet is fantastic! The pictures on your web site don't even begin to show it's beauty. Our favorite things were the privacy of your land, the sunny second floor deck, the ultra cool Irish pub in the basement and the speed boat. We hope to rent from you again. All three of our adult children would like to take another family vacation there. Thank you!

The experience in Evart, MI was wonderful. We had a group of 8 adults and 2 babies and we had plenty of room. The use of the boat was great. We used the boat everyday to tube and fish. The fishing was great for blue gill and bass (300+ fish in only 16 hours of fishing). The area was very quiet and peaceful. If you want a place to get away and just have fun this is the one.

We stayed at the Caughey's house from June 30 thru July 7, 2007. Conor was incredibly helpful and showed us all the amenities the house and property had to offer. The house is absolutely beautiful. Quality craftsmanship throughout with nothing spared. Clean and fully stocked with everything you could need. There is plenty to do with the boat/tubing, fishing, game room, zip line, swing, beach and park but far enough away from neighbors and noise that it is perfect for relaxing. Both of my boys, age 3 and 5, loved exploring, tubing and playing games. Conor even called us up mid-week to tell us about the great fireworks in Evart (which we LOVED) and the boat parade around the lake on the 4th of July. We will absolutely stay here again. I give it a 10 out of 10!

My son,Conor, invited me and other members of our family in Belfast to spend a few days in his chalet at Evart, last summer. We had a wonderful, family holiday there. Such a lovely homestead/family holiday home. I was most impressed.
Thank you, Erin and Conor for your kindness and great hospitality. I am proud of you.
When I heard "chalet", I thought "small". But this chalet is hugh! More like a mansion. We had a great time. The power boat was thrilling altogether! What memories! I will never forget the smashing holiday.
